Chapter 10 The next morning, Mary woke up feeling happier than she had in days. Keith was her boyfriend again. Just thinking that made her all giddy. “Hello boys!” She said cheerfully as she walked into the breakfast area in the hotel. “Morning.” Neil and Colm mumbled, still trying to wake up. “Hey Mary! Missed ya last night at the pub.” Emmet said as Mary took the empty seat next to him. “I missed going, but I had prior plans that I couldn’t skip with an old friend of mine who was in town.” That sentence got Colm’s attention. “You know, Keith said the exact same thing last night when we invited him to the pub with us.” By now, all eyes were on Mary. “Oh…what a coincidence.” Mary blushed. “And come to think of it, I did see the two of you walk into the hotel together.” Neil added. “Oh, I ran into him as I was walking back from meeting my friend and he was nice enough to escort me back.” Mary lied. Believing in her story, the lads changed the topic. “So, I bet you miss your daughter.” Neil stated. “Yeah, I miss her a lot. For the longest time my life revolved around her and now with her not here, it’s different.” Mary explained. “Is she gonna come to some of the shows? Cuz that’s what George’s daughter does. His wife brings her when she’s on break from school.” Neil informed her. “I think my mom is planning on bringing her down for a few of the shows around Christmas time when she’s on break from school.” Mary explained. “That’ll be nice. It will be nice to meet her.” Emmet commented. Mary smiled at him, glad that they were now accepting that she was a single mother. “Hey everyone!” Keith’s cheery voice exclaimed as he waltz up to the table they were all sitting at. Like Mary, Keith was also feeling giddy and happy that Mary was his again and no one else’s. “Hey Keith.” Everyone at the table said at once. Keith, thinking that no one was paying him and Mary any mind after he sat down, sent a smile her way along with a wink. Mary’s face flushed and smile gave a small smile back. Colm noticed this whole exchange. “What was that?” He questioned, his eyes going back and forth between the two. “What was what?” Neil questioned. “That look that you just gave Mary and the wink.” Colm explained, sounding almost delusional. “You’ve lost it mate. I have no clue what you are talking about.” Keith said with a laugh, trying to avoid that the look Mary was now giving him. “Don’t tell them. I want it to be a secret.” She had said and not even a full twenty-four hours later, he had almost blown it. “I could have sworn…Oh forget it.” Colm gave up. “So, back to your daughter Mary, do you have a picture you could show us?” Neil asked. Scrambling to grab her Vera Bradley bag that was on the floor, Mary answered, “I do. Here it is!” Mary stated as she pulled out a small wristlet that was also Vera Bradley. Opening it up, a small picture popped out. “Here you go.” She handed the lads the picture of her daughter. One by one, they passed it around the table, each of them taking in the pale skinned, blond haired, blue eyed girl with the cute smile and dimples that would one day make a man melt at her feet. When it was Keith’s turn to look at the picture, Mary couldn’t help but stare at his face to see his reaction for it was the first time he would be seeing what his daughter looked like. Holding it for just a moment too long and trying not to release the tears that came to his eyes, Keith passed the picture onto George, who had joined them when Mary pulled out the picture. In a daze, shocked by how much his daughter actually looked like him and mad at himself for not noticing the resemblance that day in the park, Keith almost missed George’s comment. “She looks just like you Mary. But, I have to say I see a resemblance of Keith in her.” Mary almost fainted from shock and Keith was knocked right back into reality. “Really? You think she looks like me?” The hopefulness in Keith’s voice was only detectable by Mary. He wanted to be able to say that his daughter resembled him, she thought. “I see it now too. She definitely has Mary’s eyes but her smile kinda looks like yours Keith.” Emmet stated after he, Neil, and Colm all looked at the picture for a second time. “Wow, how funny is that? But, I can assure you, she’s…she’s not Keith’s daughter.” That sentence sent a knife through Mary’s heart and she knew that it would have affected Keith too. “Are you sure?” Colm asked. “She is not my daughter.” Keith said gruffly before abruptly leaving the table. An awkwardness ensued. “I’m gonna go talk to Keith.” George stated as he got up to follow Keith who could be noticed through the window sitting outside. “George! Wait!” Mary chased after him. Stopping just as he was about to open the door, George turned around to see a girl who had just made a split decision running at him. “What is it Mary?” “Tell…tell Keith that I said it was okay. He’ll know what you’re talking about. Just, just make sure you don’t tell anyone what he tells you.” Mary stumbled over her words. She knew that Keith needed to talk about someone about the load she just dropped on him and George was the only one that she trusted to be told the news. “Okay.” George said, completely confused by what was occurring. Smiling softly, Mary went back to join Neil, Colm, Emmet, and now Ryan at the table. Sitting outside, Keith was lost in his own thoughts, the reality of what has been made known to him in the past few hours finally hitting him. He did not hear George come up behind him. “What’s going on Keith? Ever since Mary showed up, you have been acting different.” Keith looked up and saw George sitting down next to him. When Keith stayed silent, George added, “Mary said it was okay to tell me whatever it is as long as I promise not to say anything.” That had Keith’s full attention. “She said that?” “Yeah, just now as I was coming out to talk to you.” George said. Feeling a weight starting to be lifted off his shoulder, Keith started to rant. He told his friend everything from the moment he met Mary back when he was a wee lad all the way to the events last night. When Keith finally stopped talking, George took a moment before saying, “So let me get this straight. Mary was your girlfriend and you were planning on marrying her, the whole nine yards, but then you ended up breaking up because of Celtic Thunder and you went years without talking to her, she came back into your life, tells you you have a daughter, you get back together with her because you loved her all this time, and Colleen is actually your daughter? And she doesn’t want anyone to know any of that because she thinks that it will get her fired?” “Yeah, basically.” Keith said simply. George whistled. “That’s a lot of information to digest.” “Try being the one who has to digest it even though it’s about you.” Keith muttered, not making any sense at all. “So, what are you going to do?” George asked, curious to know what the man sitting next to him, a man who has never shown any promise in being in a committed relationship or taking anything seriously, was going to do about the whole situation. “Marry her, be a father to Collie, what else can I do?” “You don’t have to marry her just because she’s the mother of your child.” George pointed out, not knowing how well being married would sit with Keith. “Were you not just listening when I said that she is the only girl I have ever loved? The only girl I ever will love? Every time I go out with someone, I am always comparing them to Mary, wishing they were Mary. George, I’d lay my life down for her and my daughter without a moment’s thought. I. LOVE. Her.” Keith said. “I didn’t think you of all people would get that serious about a girl.” Was all George said. “I only get serious about girls when I know they are right for me and we actually have a future together and she loves me for me. Not the fame or the money. Mary, she’s something special. And as soon as I get the okay to tell everyone else, right then and there I’m gonna ask her to be my wife.” George, seeing how serious Keith was about this, his love for Mary written plainly on his forehead, nodded and said, “Well, best of luck to you then mate. I wish you all the best.” “Thanks. And thanks for listening. I needed to get some of that off my chest.” “Anytime.” George said before walking inside to rejoin everyone that was in the dining hall, watching out from the window, anxious to know what Keith had told George. “Well, what did he say?” Emmet asked the second George sat down. Looking straight at Mary with a smile of approval, he simply said, “Nothing. Nothing at all.”

Some how I knew George would be the first one to know the truth! I think Sharon should be the next one to find out the truth! I believe Sharon will be shocked at first then she will understand everything and not fire Mary! Because if Sharon fired Mary, then I have a Hunch Keith would leave with Mary!

Chapter 11 Later that night, after everyone had either gone to bed or went out, Mary crept to the hotel room that Keith had by himself until Ryan was better. “Keith, it is Mary. Open up!” Mary called softly as she tapped against the door. She waited a moment before tapping at the door again. “Hey babe, what’s up?” Keith said after he opened the door after she knocked the third time. Pecking Keith lightly on the cheek, she followed him into his room and stat down on the rather large bed. Pulling her Mac out of her bag, she told him, “I was just about to skype Collie and I thought maybe you would want to join me?” Sitting down next to Mary on the bed and wrapping his arm around her and pulling her close to him, he thought for a moment before saying. “I would love to, but I don’t think that I should. She doesn’t know that I am her father yet and what if she doesn’t react the right way when she sees me with you. What if she doesn’t like me?” Snuggling against his toned chest, Mary said to him, “She’s gonna love you Keith whether you are her father or not. And we don’t have to tell her who you are if you don’t want, we can wait to do it in person I’ll just introduce you has my friend.” When she noticed Keith’s uneasy look, she added, “But, if you’re not comfortable with it, we can just wait til Christmas time when she joins me in tour.” Thinking for another moment, Keith said, “I wanna talk to my daughter. Just, don’t tell her I’m her dad. I want to do that in person. I’m just your boyfriend for now.” Smiling at his decision, Mary went to set up her computer for the Internet call. “MOMMY!” the four year old daughter of Keith and Mary exclaimed when her mother’s face appeared on her grandmother’s computer screen back in Sligo, Ireland. “Hey baby! How’s it going? I hope you’re being good for Grandma.” Mary said as she smiled at her daughter’s appearance. Sitting in her Princess pajamas, blonde hair in a high pony on the top of her head, she never looked cuter. Keith took in a hiss of breath as he watched his girlfriend interact with his daughter. Daughter, it felt so weird saying that… “Mommy, who’s that guy with you?” Collie asked innocently as she pointed to Keith. “Collie, this is Mommy’s…boyfriend Keith. Can you say hello?” Mary tried to hold in the laugh as she heard her Mom in the background let out a small cheer at her announcing Keith as her boyfriend. “Hi Keith! I’m Colleen but everyone calls me Collie!” The little girl said to her father cheerfully. Laughing slightly, Keith said, “Hiya Collie! How’s it going?” Mary was laughing next to him at her daughter’s bad memory of not knowing she already met Keith at the park. “I’m good! Do you love my Mommy?” Collie asked innocently. Mary choked on her own spit as Keith said without hesitation, “I do. I love your mommy very much.” He smiled down softly and lovingly at Mary who was in shock. Keith loved her…they hadn’t even been back together for three days and he already loved her? “Good. Cuz I like you.” Collie declared. Keith’s heart elated as he said, “I’m glad. Cuz I like you too.” They talked for a little bit more before Mary’s mom came and told Collie that it was time for bed. “Bye Mommy! Bye Keith! I love you!” Collie said before she clicked off. Mary and Keith both said their goodbyes before doing the same. “Well, what did you think?” Mary asked as she snuggled as close as she could get to Keith. “I love her. She’s perfect.” He managed to say as his eyes glazed over. The two of them sat there in silence, enjoying each other’s company before Mary had to ask. “Did you mean it? Do you really love me?” Looking down at his girlfriend and softly kissing her on the lips, Keith whispered, “I meant it with my whole heart. I never ever stopped loving you Mary. You’ve had a spot in my heart since we were wee kids. And nothing will ever, EVER change that.” “I love you.” Mary said before she closed the gap between them again. Keith just smiled against her lips.

Chapter 12 Keith and Mary woke up at the same time the next morning for the same reason…the repeated knocking at the door. “Keith, its Colm! Open up!” Colm’s voice shouted through the door. Mary looked at Keith in horror as she whispered, “We fell asleep together! How could we have been so stupid!?!” Keith, smirking, whispered back, “Probably because we were tired after…” But, he was caught off by Mary smacking him. “Shut up Harkin! Now, go answer the door while I go and hide in the bathroom or something!” She grumbled as she sprinted as quietly as she could into the bathroom. Curling up in the bath tub, she couldn’t help but blush as her mind went to the night before with her, Keith, and Collie talking as one family…well, a family that only she and Keith knew about. And then, what happened after… “No Colm, for the last time! I have NOT SEEN MARY!” Mary’s thoughts were broken as she heard Keith yell at Colm. “Well, neither has anyone else and Sharon is looking for her.” She heard Colm say back. “Maybe she went out for a walk to get away from all this madness, I don’t know. But, I, just like you, don’t know where the bloody heck she is. Now, leave so I can get dressed and help you look.” Mary could just picture Keith pushing Colm out of the room. “He’s gone.” Keith said as he waltzed into the bathroom. “I better get going, before they send out a whole search team for me.” Mary said with a laugh. “That might be a good idea. Do you need a shirt to borrow? Since yours kinda…” “A shirt would be nice, thanks.” Mary cut him off. Laughing at her childish ways, Keith went to his suitcase and pulled out one of his favorite button up shirts. “Here ya go love.” He said as he gently draped it around his shoulders. Pulling her arms through the sleeves and buttoning the front, Mary mumbled a quick thanks’. “Anytime, anytime. Shirt looks good on you.” Keith commented as he kissed her softly on the forehead. “Thanks. I better get going.” Mary said as she pulled away from Keith. “See ya in a bit.” Keith said as he let her out the door after checking that none of the lads were in sight. “Bye.” Mary whispered as she made her way back to her hotel room in Keith’s shirt. Just as she was about to open the door to her hotel room, two voices called out to her. “Mary!” “There you are! We’ve been looking for you everywhere!” It was George and Emmet. “Oh…hey guys. I was just out for a walk. Needed to get a quiet moment to myself that’s all.” Mary said quickly as she thought back to the reason Keith had given Colm for her absence. “Say, isn’t that Keith’s shirt?” Emmet questioned as he noticed Mary’s outfit: torn jeans and the blue button up that had been given to her by her boyfriend. Her messy bun and the very noticeable glow were also noted by the two men in front of her. George, picking up on Mary’s loss of words, quickly said, “Emmet, we should probably go tell Sharon that we found Mary.” Still looking curiously at Mary, Emmet said, “Yeah, sure.” And with a final goodbye to Mary, they left her be so she could get ready for the day’s work. “Mary darling, there you are! I’ve spent all morning looking for you. I need you and the girls to go over the ensemble together before we had the lads.” Sharon informed Mary when she walked into the theater they were practicing an hour or so later. Still wearing Keith’s shirt, a pair of ripped skinny jeans, and a pair of Sperry Topsiders. “Sorry, I took a walk around town this morning. Had to clear my head of some stuff and I needed the peace and quiet before I came here.” Mary said as she got hooked up to her mic. “It’s fine dear, you’re here now.” Sharon said before she went to scold Emmet and Keith who were engaging in a heated argument on whether football (soccer) was better than surfing. “Will you two please shut the heck up!?! This show has got to be perfected by the end of the month and I can’t have you two screwing around!” “Well. Someone’s in a bad mood.” Keith muttered as he walked off to tune up his guitar. “Keith Harkin!” Everyone laughed as Keith’s gangster like walk turned into a swift run.
*um...ya...*
