"How are you feeling?", Emmet said tucking Rosealie's hair behind her ear.
"I'm good", she smiled with a nod.
"I was beginning to wonder with all your running about", he kissed her brow as he pulled her into his arms.
"Just trying to make sure my mom isn't over working herself", she sighed leaning into his embrace and closing her eyes.
"How was she tonight? Did you get to talk?"
"She's definitely tired and I know she's getting weaker. I think she will be better after everything tomorrow."
"You know, we don't have to move right away don't you?", he pulled back from her.
"What do you mean?", she studied his face.
"I know we want our own place, but with your mother being so ill, maybe we should stay here a while longer."
"I don't know", she shook her head,"I mean, her illness will only get worse and I don't know how she would feel."
"Hey", he lifted her chin gently,"No decisions tonight okay?"
"Okay", she agreed standing on her tip toes to kiss him,"We're getting married tomorrow."
"I knew there was something going on", he laughed kissing her nose.
"Thanks", she swatted him playfully.
"And you know I was joking" he wrapped an arm around her waist as Damon came out of the front door with Mari in tow.
"Hey love birds, time to break up the party," he called,"Sorry Rosie, time for the groom to leave."
"You boys have fun", Mari said kissing Damon's cheek.
"Behave yourself", Rosealie warned Emmet playfully.
"Don't worry love", he smiled warmly,"I think you know where my heart lies."
"Ugh! Before I vomit,"Damon pulled Emmet away,"Bye girls!"
"Bye!", Rosealie called after them with a laugh.
"What do you think they're up to?", Mari asked as she and Rosealie went inside.
"With Damon at the helm, who knows", she laughed,"I thought we'd just spend the evening in with movies and some junk food."
"I knew I liked you", Mari grinned. The girls took bags o cookies, chips, and assorted sweets to Rosealie's room and settled in with a Nicholas Sparks film.
"Think the girls are up to anything fun?", Emmet asked Damon wracked a set of pool balls.
"Something very girly like chick flicks and make up", Damon answered shooting the cue ball.
"I told Rosie that we don't have to leave her parents right away", he said taking the next shot.
"What did she say?"
"Said she wasn't sure how her mum would feel and about the cancer getting worse."
"You're both starting school in a few months though."
"I know, but what if we put it off for just a bit longer. I mean, I would never forgive myself if something happened to Elizabeth and Rose wasn't there."
"It's time for you and for Rosie to get out on your own, Emmet", Damon looked at him,"She is my best friend and you know that. But if you two stay there it will be longer and longer before either one of your works up the courage to actually leave. Rosie knows what is happening to her mother and she will make peace with it, but you should encourage her to go. You guys can come back on weekends or if something major happens. It's nothing but a few hours on a train."
Emmet stared at him and nodded,"I know, you're right. Guess I'm a little scared too," he gave a slight laugh,"College and getting married at the same time. Not intelligent, but I know it'll be okay."
"You and Rosie were meant for each other as much as it kills me to agee with the whole thing."
"Thanks", he rolled his eyes with a laugh.

Rosealie looked in the mirror, barely recognizing the person staring back at her. Lavendar colored eye lids, sweet pink lips, and tinted cheeks were what reflected in the glass. A satin, strapless dress that rouched in the middle and flowed to floor in cascades of fabric; small details of beads and accents sparkled when she moved. She took a deep breath as she smoothed her hands over the material. She looked up as she felt a hand on her shoulder.
"You look beautiful", Elizabeth said kissing her daughter on the cheek.
"Thanks mom", she turned hugging her,"Thank you and you Katherine", she looked to Emmet's mother,"For all of this."
"You and Emmet deserve it", Katherine smiled joining the two women,"My son may just fall over after getting a glimpse of you."
"Not before the vows!", Rosealie laughed.
Elizabeth watched her daughter as she talked animatedly with Katherine and Marissa. Her face a glow with new love, a fresh innocense, ready to take on the world. How much she was going to miss with her; the college years, graduation, her first child. Watching her transform from a young woman into a career woman, into a mother; it would all happen before Rosalie realized it and yet all Elizabeth could think about was leaving her daughter before either one of them were ready.
"Mom?", Rosealie said.
"Sorry", she shook her head,"checked out for a moment."
"Are you okay?"
"I'm fine, Rosie", she replied,"Your father is outside when you're ready."
"I think it's about time", Marissa said handing Rosealie her bouquet of roses and lillies,"Emmet's waiting."
"Thanks Mari" Rosealie said with a wide smile. Just on the other side of the doors and at the end of the aisle was her future. She remembered the first time she had seen his hazel eyes and when he turned his smile on her. The way her heart had raced after their first kiss in a summer rain and had never beat the same since. Remembering when he had put the engagement ring on her finger and the words he had told her. The obstacles they had over come together and the hurdles still ahead. She knew that with Emmet by her side that she would make it through all of them. Even the most difficult that seemed to be heading towards her like a freight train, her mother's death. It made her treasure the day even more knowing that it may be one of the final memories that she had of the woman who had been there every step of the way in her life.

Fall! What a tender moment in the Bride's room! Brought tears to my eyes! Love the comment Emmet's mom made about how Emmet is going to react when he sees Rose!

The aisles of the church dripped with rich pink and white flowers of every different variety; star gazer lilies adorned the centers surrounded by small white roses, daises, and wild flowers. Long, white taper candles glowed warmly and cast dancing shadows across the alter where Emmet stood with Damon next to him. He nervously adjusted the tie at his neck as the door at the back of the church opened and the wedding march began. When he saw her, all thoughts left his mind, there was nothing else but Rosealie on the arm of her father. Her beaming smile and vibrant, twinkling eyes were only on him. His heart maintained a steady gallop as she came closer. She watched him as she drew near, her own heart pounding like a bass drum in her chest, she was sure the whole church could hear the thunderous sound. His hand was warm and confident as it took hers.
"I love you Rosie", Morgan said kissing her cheek.
"I love you daddy", she whispered as he shook Emmet's hand.
"Are you ready?", Emmet said softly as he gazed at her.
She nodded as they turned to face the minister as he began the ceremony. Her eyes didn't leave Emmet's for a moment as the minister spoke about love and the sanctity of marriage and that they were making a life long commitment to each other,"Rosealie and Emmet both have written vows to say to each other. As the old saying goes, ladies first."
She took a deep breath and freed her hands to be able to sign as well as speak,"When we met, this is how we communicated," she began,"You loved me before I could speak and you learned for me. You have never lost patience with me nor your temper, even though I have deserved it at times," she smiled as he laughed,"I never knew such an unconditional love could exist nor did I ever imagine it would find me. I vow to love you for the rest of our days together, to continue to learn and grow with you, to trust in you and in our strength as a couple. And I vow that you will always be the only one who will be the music of my heart."
"Emmet, you may read yours."
"How do I follow that one?", he joked with a sniff before taking Rosealie's hands in his,"Rosie, you took my breath away the first time I saw you. When you looked over your shoulder before leaving the store, I knew I had to see you again. I believe it was fate that I ran into you that night. I knew I would be willing to learn for you, to be able to communicate with you, no matter what it took. From our first kiss in the rain, to this moment, there has never been a doubt in my mind that I would spend the rest of my life with you. I vow to you now, that I will continue to help you through the learning and growing process of your speech. I vow that I will wake you up on time for class every day, I vow to have a home filled with music for you and one day for our children. I too vow to trust in you and our strength as a couple. You have been and always will be the music of my heart."
"The rings please", the minister took the rings from Damon and Marissa,"The rings represent the never ending circle and the never ending love that these two individuals share. Rosealie if you will please place the ring on Emmet's finger and repeat after me, I Rosealie Winters, take you Emmet Cahill, to be my lawfully wedded husband."
"I, Rosealie Winters", she began,"Take you, Emmet Cahill, to be my lawfully wedded husband."
"Emmet, if you will please place the ring on Rosealie's finger and repeat after me. I Emmet Cahill, take you Rosealie Winters to be my lawfully wedded wife."
"I, Emmet Cahill," he grinned as he slid the ring over her left finger,"Take you Rosealie Winters to be my lawfully wedded wife."
"Do you both promise to love, honor, and cherish each other, so long as you both shall live?"
"I do!", the said in unison.
"By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may salute your bride."
"Mrs.Cahill", Emmet said before taking Rosealie in his arms. It was as if the rest of the room disappeared as they shared their first kiss as husband and wife. The fears, worries, stress, and waiting were over; their life together was beginning and the road was stretched out in front of them.
Damon cleared his throat and clapped Emmet on the shoulder as the rest of the guests shared laughter, applause, and tears,"Ladies and gentleman Mr. and Mrs. Cahill!", he announced.

June began hot and sticky in New York City. Both Emmet and Rosealie had been finished with finals for a few weeks and were packing up to go spend some time in the mountains with Damon and Marissa. Emmet had tossed a few items into his suitcase when his cell phone rang,"Mr. Winters!", he answered brightly.
"Emmet, is Rosie with you?", Morgan asked quietly.
"She just ran to the store to get a few things."
"I tried her, but got voicemail."
"She probably didn't hear her phone in the store. is everything okay?"
Morgan sighed,"It's Elizabeth, she's asking for Rosie, I think the time has come."
Emmet swallowed thickly running his hand through his hair,"Okay, we will leave as soon as she gets back."
"Please, just prepare her for this. Liz is in bad shape."
"I will sir, she should be home shortly", he clicked the end button on the phone and sat on the couch. He watched out the small window as the green leaves of the tree branches moved in the hazy heat. Children splashed through a fire hydrant as if they had not a care in the world. Cars passed by on the quiet neighborhood street, neighbors chatted as they watched the children. He sighed as he heard the door open.
"I'm home!", Rosealie called.
"Hello love", Emmet said forcing a smile and taking the bags from her,"Come into the living room."
"But I have some cold things for the cooler", she replied.
"Rosie, come into the living room," he placed the bags on their small dining room table.
"Is everything okay?", she looked at him as she sat down,"Is it my mom?"
"Your dad called," he said taking her hands,"Your mother has been asking for you. He said he thinks the time is coming soon."
She felt the words get caught in her throat as his words sank in,"No", she stood up pushing her hair away from her face,"It's not time, it can't be time. It's summer and we're going to see them......and........and.......just no.....", she stammered.
"Rosie", he said standing up,"You knew this day was going to come," he approached her carefully.
"Emmet", she turned to him with tears streaking down her cheeks,"I'm not ready for this, she's my mother."
He nodded pulling her into his arms,"I know you're not", he stroked her hair,"We'll cancel with Damon and Mari, they'll want to spend time with her too."
"I don't want her to die", she sobbed into his chest.
"I'm so sorry my love", he placed soft kisses against her hair. He led her to the bedroom and held her as she exhausted herself and released the tears that he knew had been building over the months. He brushed her hair away from her face, as her breathing finally began to return to normal, her eyes had closed and she was asleep. He kissed her forehead pulling the blanket around her. He turned off the light and went to the dining room to put away the few things she had bought. He picked up his phone and called Damon.
"Emmet, how's married life?", he answered brightly.
"Going well mate", he gave a chuckle,"Have you talked to Rosie's dad at all?"
"Yeah", he said,"My mom told me about everything. How is Rosie?"
"Not good", he sighed,"She just cried herself to sleep. I told her that we would cancel with you and Mari so she could be at home with her mom."
"Perfectly fine", he agreed,"Let me know if Mari and I can do anything."
"I appreciate it", he said,"Want Rosie to call you?"
"No, just take care of her and get her home."
"You know I will", he said as he hung up the phone. He finished putting the groceries away and then started dinner for them. They would get on the road first thing in the morning. It was almost a three hour drive back up north.

You're an updating machine today! I love it!
This was such a heartbreaking update. It's always hard to lose someone that you love, I hope Rose remembers that she got to spend a lot of time with her mother and that's more than many people get. So good and so sad.

Rosealie sat numbly as the car moved along the scenic highway. The green of the leaves blurred in her eyes, her fingers moved absently over her wedding set feeling the groves and shape of the rings together. She jumped as Emmet's fingers found hers.
"Sorry love", he brushed his lips over the back of her hand,"How are you doing?"
She shrugged looking at his fingers entwined with hers,"I don't know, I wish I knew how to feel or what to feel,"her voice caught with tears,"It's something that I knew was coming, but.....I......I'm just not ready."
"I don't think anyone is every ready for something like this," he said gently,"But this time with her will be what carries you through everything else."
"I'm just scared, of what she'll look like and that will be all I remember. I want to remember when she wasn't sick and how beautiful she was. I wish I could take back the times we fought."
"We all fight with our parents, it's like a right of passage so to speak. If you didn't fight, it wouldn't be normal."
She laughed, wiping the tears from her cheeks,"Thank you", she leaned across resting her head on his shoulder.
"Anytime", he said placing a kiss against her hair,"You want to try to get some sleep? We have a bit of a drive ahead of us."
"No, I'll be fine", she sat up,"It's only a few hours."
"Damon said he and Mari would meet us for dinner when ever you're ready."
"That would be nice, we haven't all hung out in a while." They fell into a comfortable silence as music hummed softly from the radio. The sun had shifted high into the sky by the time they reached upstate. Shafts of golden light filtered through the trees on the highway splashing across the windshield and warming the car. Rosealie breathed in the fresh mountain air, she had missed the fresh air and the slower pace of life. The village near the lake was teaming with summer traffic, she made a mental note to make sure they spent time on the water.
"Here we are", Emmet said turning into the gated home. He looked at Rosealie, her face was pale and her hands fisted against her legs,"It's going to be okay Rosie", he pulled the car to a stop and cut the engine.
"I just have to go in there", she sighed.
"I'll be with you", he cupped her cheek in his hand,"Every step of the way."
"I know", she placed her hand against his,"I love you", she kissed him softly.
"I love you too", he kissed her brow and stroked her cheek,"Let's go inside." They both climbed out of the car foregoing their bags. Emmet took her hand tightly in his as they made their way inside.
"We're here", she called into the empty hallway.
"Hey there", Morgan smiled tiredly at his daughter and son-in-law.
"Hi daddy", she hugged him,"Where's mom?"
"Rosie, I have to prepare you", he looked between the two,"She has been set up in the living room, it was easier for the hospice nurse. She's lost a lot of weight."
"I understand", she swallowed hard. She turned to Emmet,"I need to go in alone."
"Go ahead, love", he gave her hand a squeeze.
