*yes I know I have a couple of stories going, but when it hits. It hits. Disclaimer, never been to County Westmeath, don't know Emmet personally. Any inaccuracies are unintentional*
*This is just the start, hope you enjoy. No worries explanations come later*
Working at a bookstore was not the most glamorous of jobs, but a college student can't always be picky. Emmet Cahill took comfort among those books, he could read as often as he liked or simply find a reason to disappear when he had had enough of the day. The "Little Book Cottage", as the store was called was almost a home away from home for him. If he wasn't there he was at school or doing a performance. Work and school left him little social life, hence why he had agreed to pick up an extra shift on a Saturday. A Saturday that he wished he had taken off. The weather was warm and the sun was shining. Summer in County Westmeath, one of the most grand times of year. When the weather was more perfect and inviting. The grass was green and the water front beckoned to even the most seasoned locals.
"Cahill, you gonna actually stock those volumes?", Marissa a coworker said stiffly.
"Uh, yeah," he quickly looked at the stack of books by the window,"Looks glorious outside."
"Are we bein' paid to look out the window?", she adjusted her name badge.
"Guess not", he sighed casting a longing glance at the passers by who chattered carelessly and soaked up the late afternoon sun. He went back to carefully stacking the books in their display. Summer break was just beginning, he would make time to not work so much and simply enjoy the time off. He made a silent promise to himself, to have a day or maybe two a week to himself. He was brought out of his thoughts as he heard the small bell on the door into the store. He looked up to see a young woman, bobbed dark mahogany hair with light streaks of blonde, she entered the store quietly and made her way towards the fiction section.
"Help the customer", Marissa hissed from behind a large box.
"Thanks Mari", he rolled his hazel eyes. He dusted his hands on his jeans and followed the girl,"Can I help you?", he asked standing slightly behind her. There was no reply,"Miss?", he tapped her shoulder in a second attempt. She turned suddenly, Emmet nearly stumbled at the vibrant aqua colored eyes,"May I help you?" he waited for a response, but she simply shook her head and smiled moving away from him. He stared after her as she continued browsing. Why wasn't she answering a simple question? Most people would give a polite no thank you, but she gave nothing but a sweet smile and kept going. He was intrigued and watched as she selected a few different books.
"Did she need anything?", Marissa asked as he returned to the register area.
"No", he shook his head,"Didn't even speak to me."
"Oh, blow to the ego there Cahill?", she smirked.
"No," he shoved her shoulder playfully,"Just kind of interesting, that's all."
"Well, here's your second chance", she watched as the girl made her way to the register with her selection.
Emmet smiled and motioned her forward,"Did you find everything okay?" again he was given a smile and a nod,"Fan of vampires I see," this time a more excited nod and a wider smile. He gave her the total and thanked her as she paid. He watched as she peaked over her shoulder at him as she left the store. He couldn't help but to give her an enthusiastic smile. He looked at the credit receipt, Rosalie. Very fitting name for the blush that her cheeks held and the sweet smile.
