"Did you have fun?", Damon said coming into Roasealie's room.
"Yes", she answered feeling the color seep into cheeks,"Emmet is very nice and he wants to learn to sign!"
"And I suppose you are going to want me to help?"
"Please?", she looked him,"He said he would take classes, but you know that's not always enough. I told him with you being able to speak, it may make it easier."
"This is true, but he is not going to want me encroaching on his time with you. You shouldn't want me there either, plus I think Marissa and I hit it off tonight."
"Not all the time, just sometimes. I mean, I can help him some, but not being able to speak," she shrugged her shoulders.
"Rosie, it will be fine. What you need," he sat on the edge of the bed,"Is to be more confident. If he is willing to learn sign language for you, I doubt he is going to be upset because you don't speak."
"Easy as that?"
"Easy as that", he kissed her temple,"Good night."
Rosealie changed for bed and as she drifted to sleep images of Emmet, his smile, his eyes. For the first time in several years she had enjoyed the company of someone who was not Damon. Someone who didn't see her as a sister, but as the young woman she was.
"What are you doing?", Marissa asked sipping on a mug of tea the following morning at the book store.
"Looking for sign language classes", Emmet answered not looking up from the screen.
"You're going to learn sign languge for her?"
"Why not?", he looked at her briefly,"I can't expect her to write out a novel every time we want to spend time together."
"You do know they are only here for a few months right?", she bit into a blueberry scone.
"I suppose you think that will change my mind right?", he rolled his eyes.
"No, because nothing I say will change the stubborn head of yours", she laughed,"Just don't go getting yourself silly over someone who may be walking the other way in a very short amount of time."
"Is that what you're telling yourself about Damon?", he turned and looked at her.
"It's not going any where, but he's quite the looker and he's fun."
"Keep tellin yourself that", he shook his head and went back to looking at the screen.
"Have fun with your search", she tossed a napkin at him.
