It has come to our attention that there are some fans of Celtic Thunder that have been taking pictures off of people's private sites and putting them on fanpop. More than one Pub/Nox/Thunderhead has complained about this. Pictures have been taken off of facebook, myspace, and google, including pictures of people's CHILDREN. We'd like to gently remind everyone that taking pictures from other people, without permission, is unfair. And that taking and posting pictures of anyone under 18 can be a criminal offense.
That said, we'd like to know how YOU feel about this. Do you feel that it is stealing to take someone else's pictures, or is it free trading? Is it okay to post them without permission? What do you say? We want to know what the PEOPLE think!

First off, I definitely think it is wrong to take someone's personal pictures and post them on fanpop, unless they give you permission to do so, or do it themselves. I would say this applies to taking people's personal pictures and posting them anywhere, but especially fanpop. It's not really the best site out there, to say the least. Anyways, I would say, even if you are close friends with that person, you shouldn't take their pictures without permission, and should ask first, even if you are just saving them onto your computer, and not posting them anywhere else. That's just my opinion. As for the "free trading" comment, I do think if you are going to post personal pictures, they should be in private albums. And if you are looking at someone's private album, and want to copy some of the pictures, first think about why that person put that album on private! Duh! Basically, just ask the person first, before doing anything with their pictures.

Also, the lads' privacy is always being invaded. There's so many personal family photos of Damian posted there, and ones from when he was younger. The worst one was when some girl went through online gov't records to find his address (so she claims) and took screencaps from Google Maps. It's dangerous, and when I commented on that, I got a TON of responses telling me I'm wrong, and that it's not a big issue at all. It's just really hard getting those people to understand that what they're doing IS NOT okay. So we tried to stop it by commenting on pictures that were really innappropriate (like one of Paul and Phil's family at a funeral, grrrr) and not only were our comments mocked and then deleted, our accounts were blocked. Fanpop itself isn't playing fair. So...Sharon has been informed, and we've sent emails to fanpop, but we need your support And if you disagree with us, feel free to say so

I have to agree that taking people's pictures and posting them elsewhere without their consent is stealing. I heard that someone stole a person's picture, but out the fan in it and put themselves in the picture. That is just totally wrong. I don't agree with putting personal pictures of the guys out there with family either. This is their private lives that are being violated. Please people, use some common sense. Cyg

Cap'n and Queen Mindy, My most sincere thanks to you both for doing this! I always believed that it was stealing. Now it is personal, since my pictures of my 4 year old daughter were stolen and put up on FanPop and who knows where else. It is scary to think of who could get ahold of these photos, there are pedophiles out there, people! The person who took my photos had to save them to her computer so she could post them, and that is just as scary. Please delete them if you are that person. To the rest of you, if you see them anywhere, please report them and inform me. Thank you!

^^ It's just two people...musikluver94 and Ryanne81...I normally wouldn't name names, but these two take it WAY too far and don't understand that it's NOT okay to do what they do.

This, to me, is 100% without a doubt stealing. Taking people's pictures without their permission OR KNOWLEDGE is wrong. I don't trust fanpop and never rely on information or pictures from there. People who take pictures without permission take it way too far.
Bern, Im so sorry someone took you pictures of your little girl. It's not right for someone to do that. It's scary to think that someone would want to take someone's personal pictures and post them on unreliable sites.

Oh Bern, I'm so sorry this happened to you!! I hope that we can make fanpop, and whoever is doing this, to understand that it isn't okay at all!

I find the whole matter very offensive and a violation of my privacy,I was realy ticked off when I saw my Picture of what was supose to be me and Damian, was Damian and some girl who superimposed her self into my photo,it is like haveing someone steal your identity, I had to delight all my pictures off of fanpop and I thought I would have to do the same on facebook but I locked the privacy to only friends but I also now don't know who to trust.not happy about that, takeing anyones pictures and posting them without asking premision first is stealing

Yeah, with todays technology there are so many ways to take pictures, and play around with them to make them look like your own. And even if you have your photo albums set to private for only your friends to see, you have to be careful who you choose as friends too. Personally I think you should only add friends that you have met in person, and know well. Just a peice of advice

This bugs me. It makes me wonder if my pic is safe. Also stealing the pictures invades more than one person's privacy. It invades the privacy of the owner of the picture, and the people in it. This is rude, and the men of Celtic Thunder do not deserve it, they already bend the rules of PBS and Sharon by allowing fans to meet them outside the buses, but this is to far. They would not be happy, they love their fans so much, and we want them to stay connected with us.

OH MY GOD... Thank you guys.. but i really have to state my opinion! ive seen many people with pictures i know belong to other people... but i suggest people ask permission... to use them... if its like screencaps and stuff... But if its like M&G pictures or bus pictures... like the one i have of me and Keithers... i would be hugely angry if anyone cropped themselves into it and cut me out... These guys are gracious and sweet and very amazing too take the time, and anything too stop and take pictures... Dont abuse the privledge and get your own pictures with them... i for one cant wait for the day i get my picture with Damian bcause it will mean a great deal to my grandma... but their is no way im gunna steal someone elses and make it mine.. Thats just plain wrong and its considered stealing.... On the note of like private pictures of them.... examples like Damian when he was younger.. or the funeral as Cakey mentioned, anything to that attempt is just wrong... how would everyone feeel if your privte pictures... like sleeping or being goofy as a child were posted for the world to see.. & may i say NOT by choice.. i bet if you asked them all thats just wrong... We need to step up as Thunderheads and prove that these guys dont deserve this, and people who are doing it should stop and delete all their pictures... okay rant over.. my fingers are getting sore... but you get the point... Its wrong and if you call yourself a Thunderhead, you will get your own pictures with YOURSELF and the lads.. because really its all the more worth it if you love the guys for who they are and what they do... & get this you can tell them too!!! So thats my opinion these guys are here for their fans... they dont have to do ALL that they doo.. and we are here to support them... Soooo lets keep it that way, and stay on their side.. thanks a bunch DAMIANBAYBE!!!

There have been similar problems on sites like DeviantArt in regard to stealing another artist's work. I make it very clear on all of my works that the art belongs to me, no stealing, reposting, copying, etc. If people want to use my characters in stories or artwork, it's a great big NO unless I give them express, written permission. I don't use other people's characters in my art or story without permission either. To do otherwise would be classified as Copyright infringement. AKA... stealing.
So yes, I firmly believe that lifting other people's photos from their personal webpages or photoshopping them without the express permission of the owner of the photo is completely and utterly unacceptable. The mods of Fanpop are failing in their duties to keep this kind of theft under control, and the fact that this is not only affecting our boys, but the Thunderheads too is going much too far.
I am very glad to hear that Sharon has been notified, and I think if people can, you should keep on trolling the photos on Fanpop. Keep on making new accounts. I don't condone trolling, but this is a different matter altogether. I saw the comments you posted on some of those photos; you weren't really disrespectful to the poster of the pictures, you didn't call them names or curse/swear at them. You were playing quite fair in my opinion. Any and all attention that can be brought to this issue, I should hope will get us closer to getting these pictures removed for good, and the people who took the pictures banned.
Bern, I'm so sorry this had to happen to you. I can only hope that someone cracks the whip over these thieves and removes your pictures from the site. This is really very ridiculous and NEEDS to be stopped!

This is awful! I personally never go on fanpop so I had no idea that this was happening! Pictures are personal memories and mean something. Stealing a picture is like stealing the memory! It's dangerous to steal someone's pictures and put them in settings not agreed on by the owner. Bern, I am soooo sorry that someone did this to your little girl. I pray that this will stop soon.
