"Ryne! That band you like is outside!" Ryne rubbed her eyes sleepily. "The what?"
"Just come outside!" Ryne sighed. She was still in her plaid flannel pajama pants and tight fitted tee. Her red hair was pulled up in a bun on top of her head, and she was wearing her reading glasses. She pulled open the door and stepped onto the porch. "What is it Keefe?" She finally became aware of the men on her porch, talking to her little brother. The man closest to her smiled. "Hello. I'm Keith Harkin. This is Neil, George, Colm, and Ryan." Ryne was speechless. Keefe grinned. "She knows. Big fan of yours."
"Oh. What's your name?"
"I...I...I'm Ryne. Ryne Byrne."
"Hey, Neil's last name is Byrne!"
"Right. So your name means Champion Bird?" Ryne giggled. Keith grinned. "Oh really? That's good to know." Neil groaned. "Well that's just great. Wait... Ryne? As is Ryne Cailin?" Ryne nodded. Neil whooped. "I knew we wern't lost! Guys, this is me Aunts house. These are me cousins. Ryne Cailin, Keefe Andrew, and the little one, Brom Dylan. Where is he?" Ryne smiled again. "He's still asleep. And YOU Keefe, have to get to school. Will you lads come in? I want to get dressed and I'll be right back. You can help yourself to whatever is in the kitchen." The lads followed her inside. She dissappeared down the hall and Keefe grabbed his backpack and ran out the door.
When Ryne reappeared, she was wearing a fitted black tee, and army green cargo pants. Her hair was curled and her glasses were gone. Keith and Colm whistled softly. Ryne smiled shyly and giggled. "So I guess I look okay." Ryan grinned at her. "Of course. Ye'r the loveliest young lady I've ever met."
"Thanks." She blushed. Just then, her mother came through the door. "Oh! Hello Neil. I hardly recognize you with your new haircut. The last picture we had of you was a little more... Rock and Roll." Neil laughed. "Hey Aunt Shelly. How've ye and Uncle Kelly been?"
"Oh just fine. It's been so long since we've seen you, not since Ryne was eight. Now she's twenty-three, and you are singing with a band in America!" Ryne cut in, "Yeah, I had no idea that the Neil Byrne of Celtic Thunder, the best music group ON the face of the earth and OFF it, was my cousin!" Neil grinned at her and she started humming. "What's that yer hummin'?" He asked. "Oh, it's um... The Trouble with Girls, by Scotty McCreery. It's my favorite song." Keith grinned at her. "I like some of his stuff. Like, Write my Number on yer Hand. I know it's country music, and it don't relate so well to Ireland, but it's good music, and he's got a great voice."
"Yeah, I love him."
"Ryne!" Shelly exclaimed. "Mom! I love his music, you know, like I love Colm's song Katie, or Keith singing Tears of Hercules." Shelly looked at George and sighed. "Kids. I will never figure them out. Won't you all sit down?" George smiled. "Sure ma'am. It's very nice to meet ye." Colm and Keith sat on either side of Ryne on the couch, George and Ryan took the loveseat, and Neil and Shelly sat on the chairs. There was a cry from the hall. "Excuse me, I need to fetch Brom." Ryne got up from between the lads and opened the door in the hall.
Neil smiled after Ryne, saying, "She grown into an amazing young woman. Last time I saw her she was still the annoying little cousin who was always wanting to play with the big kids. Now..."
"I know. I couldn't be prouder of her. And, boys... I've been talking to Sharon, your Producer, and she is taking Ryne with you guys on tour. Neil, will you watch her? She's been through a lot lately. Her boyfriend left her, and... He did some things before he left."
I am keeping it G rated, but this story requires some drama. The characters write it as much as I do.
