Okay...I'm going to try this again. The last time I attempted to write a Keith story it was horrible. I've had this idea for awhile and finally decided to give it a go. Please let me know what you think. If there isn't any interest I'm not going to post any more of it. Anyway...I hope you like it!

Keith raised his glass and managed a halfhearted smile as the newlywed couple made their way onto the dance floor. He watched Colm pull the smiling young woman into his arms as they danced for the first time as husband and wife.
Draining his beer, Keith signaled for another without taking his eyes off of the bride. The auburn hair that was always falling into her face, the hazel eyes that changed color as often as she changed her mind, the sweet smile that robbed him of his defenses…every detail was painfully familiar.
Taking another drink he tore his gaze away from the happy couple. This was supposed to be for him. Everyone was supposed to be smiling and snapping pictures of himself and his lovely new bride. Instead he was sitting in the back, alone, while everyone fawned over the happy couple.
This was all his fault. How could he have let things get so bad? He had loved her. He had given his heart and soul to her so why wasn’t he the one holding her right now?
Cursing himself for the millionth time Keith stared into his beer as if the answers he sought were etched into the bottom of the glass.

Keith met Andrea Connors about two years ago in L.A. days after Verve records had signed him on as one of their newest acts. He had been so nervous that he was almost shaking as he walked the halls of the studio.
“I’m going to introduce you to Andy who’ll be showing you the ropes and acting as your assistant while you’re in L.A.,” explained the secretary whose name Keith never managed to remember.
The nameless blonde let him into a boardroom with the promise that Andy would be right with him. Keith was too jittery to sit down so he wandered over to the plate glass window, awed by the view.
“Impressive, isn’t it?”
The voice made him jump and its owner laughed as he hastily spun around. It took every ounce of willpower that Keith possessed to keep his jaw from dropping. He had been expecting a young man, most likely an intern no older than himself to be showing him around.
The image in his head clashed painfully with the vision in front of him. The young woman was somewhat near his age but it was difficult to tell. The light from the windows caught her auburn hair and caused it to blaze red in its practical bun. Her eyes were slightly obscured by a pair of black framed glasses and the sharp suit that she wore showed off an athletic figure.
With a start Keith realized he was staring and tore his eyes away while holding out his hand. “Keith Harkin.”
“Andrea Connors but everyone calls me Andy. Now if you’d like to take a seat, Mr. Harkin, I’ll go over your itinerary for the next few days.”
“Keith, please call me Keith.”
Rewarding him with a smile Andy nodded. “Alright, Keith, here’s your schedule…”

Over the next few weeks Andy more or less kept Keith’s life together. He was trying to balance recording, Celtic Thunder promotional tours, his own promotional work and maintain some semblance of a personal life all at the same time and was failing miserably.
Andy managed everything without even batting an eye. Somehow she made every task fit seamlessly together and was even able to give Keith a day or two to himself as a respite to the chaos.
“How do you do it?”
“Do what?” asked Andy. She was currently parked in front of her computer, her glasses pushed up on top of her head, her eyes glowing blue as she tackled an intimidating stack of paperwork.
“How to you make everything just work?” Keith glanced at the detailed schedule in front of him and the very thought of compiling it made his head hurt.
“Putting the schedules together is the easy part. The hard part is getting people to stick to them.” She eyed Keith over her computer screen and the singer sheepishly looked away.
While Andrea was always up for having a good time she was more strict than a drill sergeant when it came to making sure her clients were on time.
That morning she had called Keith’s cell phone half a dozen times at no avail. Finally she had let herself into his hotel room and rolled her eyes at the blonde who was sprawled across the bed. From the looks of things he had been out partying again, against her advice, and had just fallen into bed most likely in the wee hours of the morning.
“Keith.”
The singer didn’t even stir.
Shaking her head she tried again. “Keith, come on. You’ve got to be downtown in a hour.”
This time her words seemed to penetrate the fog surrounding him but instead of waking Keith just rolled over and proceeded to ignore the nagging voice threatening to disturb his dreams.
With a sigh Andy headed into the bathroom and emerged with a glass of water. After trying to rouse the singer once more she shrugged and upended the glass.
The result was instantaneous. Keith let out a roar and sat straight up, cursing a blue streak while trying to figure out what was going on. He spotted Andy by the door but before he could speak she held up a hand to stop him.
“Let me make one thing very clear, Mr. Harkin. I am never late therefore you are never late. And if by some chance we are late because of your lollygagging I will make your life miserable. Understood?”
Keith nodded numbly while pushing his soaking hair away from his face.
“Good. Now I expect to see you in the lobby in twenty minutes.”
He had scowled and grumbled under his breath for the entire ride downtown but they had arrived with mere minutes to spare and Keith had to begrudgingly admit that he was grateful for Andy’s assistance. Without her he would have likely slept through the appointment.
Andrea’s voice snapped him back to the present and Keith shook his head to clear it. “Sorry. What was that?”
The young woman rolled her eyes, an action she found herself doing often in Keith’s presence, and gestured towards the door. “I said you were done for the day. Now you’re in early to start recording tomorrow morning so no partying. I had to fight for that studio time and if you show up and your voice is hoarse I’ll do more than dump ice water over your head. Got it?”
“Got it.” Keith scowled, he didn’t appreciate being spoken to as if he was a child especially by someone his own age.
Seeing his expression Andy’s face softened and she looked past Keith to gaze at the beautiful Californian weather.
“I hear the waves are great today, try not to get burned.”
Keith paused with his hand on the door handle. “How did you know I surfed?”
Adjusting her glasses Andy grinned. “Honey, I know everything.”

Over the next few weeks Keith and Andy formed a tentative friendship. There had been a lot of screaming, threatening, and tense silence but eventually they found a way to work together. Andrea stopped talking to Keith as if he was a child and Keith started listening to Andrea the first time she told him something…most of the time. Once the barriers were broken the two began to understand and appreciate the others’ work.
The true eye-opening moment for Keith came when Andy stepped out of the room one day to take a call and left her day planner open on the desk. He didn’t mean to pry but the page seemed to be covered with nothing but writing and he had to investigate. Upon closer examination Keith’s eyes widened in surprise. From six in the morning until late into the night Andy’s schedule was packed. He knew that he wasn’t her only client but her schedule didn’t leave her one moment to herself.
Flipping through the pages he was shocked when he realized that every day, including the weekends, was just as hectic. As absorbed as he was he didn’t realize that she was standing next to him until it was too late. He jumped and felt his cheeks flush. “I…I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to…I mean…you just left it there.”
Andy shrugged and packed the book away in her bag. “It’s okay. Now come on, you have a radio interview at two.”
As they walked down the hall Keith let himself fall into step with her. “Don’t you ever have any free time?”
“Not really.” Andy stepped to the curb to hail a cab.
“What about holidays?”
“What about them?” She told the driver the address and watched as the scenery flew by the window.
“Well…don’t you at least get holidays off?” When Andy shook her head Keith frowned. “What about your family? Wouldn’t you like to have some time to spend with them?”
Something dark passed across Andy’s face for a moment before she could chase it away. “I don’t have any family to speak of. Holidays are a great opportunity to get some extra work done while my clients have time to themselves.”
Keith sat back in his seat as he tried to process this new information. As much as he loved working on his music and touring he always cherished the time that he spent at home with his friends and family.
“So what do you for fun?”
Andy paused to clean her glasses and shrugged. “Nothing.”
“Friends?”
“Just acquaintances from work.”
“Boyfriend?”
At this Andy laughed out loud. “Yeah right.” She paused as if she was going to say more but they had arrived at their destination. “Let’s go, you know how I feel about being late.”
As Keith followed her into the building he couldn’t help but wonder why this young woman felt like she had to work herself into the ground without allowing anyone to help her ease the strain.
