Damian lived a life of privilege that few ever enjoyed, but most only dared to wistfully dream about. He knew he owned Counties Cork, Mayo, and Tipperary, and half the city of Ballymena. Life was picture perfect. Lacking nothing, his thirst for material possessions was always satiated by his well to do parents or his other family members. But he felt empty inside, although he couldn't figure out for the life of him why he felt this way.
He knew not everyone was as well to do as him and his opulent family. He had witnessed the poor folk in the streets, begging for morsels just to hold on a little bit longer in their cruel, unkind world. These sights moved him, he hated seeing anyone for want of anything, starving, or simply unhappy. He would go into shops and return to the scrawny skeletons with as much food as he could inconspicuously get. The thanked him endlessly, almost convinced this young man who had taken time to help them was nothing less than a saint of sorts.
Mostly, they were women with young children, sometimes a few young boys, the occasional one just alone, waiting for someone to take notice of their plight. For the most part, they were ignored.

He put himself in their places, imagined what it would be like-alone, forgotten by the rest of the world, looked down upon. He was just one person, much as he'd like to, he alone couldn't right every wrong in this sometimes harsh and cruel world. But he did what he could, after all, the most we can ask for is doing what we can.
Damian strolled down the city streets, like any other day. It was warm, the sun shone brightly for all, lighting ip the darkest corners of the streets and alleys.
Erinn sat staring at the other side of the alley. She'd stopped to momentarily ease the throbbing pains that rose up from her raw, burning, bare feet.

Her stomach growled in harsh protest, she'd not a morsel to fill her aching belly. She sighed, eyeing her shadow that grew ever larger with the moving angles of the summer sun.
Erinn was one of them, one of the Forgotten Ones. Forgotten by society, overlooked as the rich walked on by, not even glancing at the unfortunate souls. She'd been spurned and scorned by the wealthy many times before when she'd politely asked for a few euros to purchase a tiny portion of bread in order to silence her hunger pangs. Today had been an unsuccessful day, not one person so far had so much as even looked on her.

She got to her feet, wincing at the shooting pains as she did so. She wandered aimlessly; no real direction to where she was going, or what she was doing. Erinn Kelly was alone in the world, a sixteen year old with no recollection of any family, if she had any. Always she had been told she'd been left at the nun's orphanage in Waterford. And that was all anyone knew of Erinn Kelly; besides the fact she had hair black as the night sky, eyes a dark, intense brown.
She often wondered if she'd any kin alive, anyone, anywhere at all. Surely someone had to be better than nobody, should they exist. She had a feeling she had relatives, but chalked it up to wishful thinking and nonsense. Reality was where she was, and reality wasn't so great, a simple beggar, nothing more, nothing less.

So Erinn maybe related to Damo somehow. Dee you never told us what Damian's last name is in this story.

Damian Callaghan was just about to turn round and head home, when he noticed something was going on in a nearby street corner. He decided to investigate; his curiosity piqued. He stood back, not jumping in right away unless there would be a reason for him to step in, he thought to himself. Hidden behind an alleywall, he watched and waited.
A girl, about his age, was pacing up and down the street, she looked distraught, disheveled, worried. He wondered what had happened to her to end up on the streets instead of in a warm, loving home with parents to guide and love. Pity and sorrow struck him at the sight of this unknown girl. He saw her conversing with passerby; pleading for something, for what; he didn't know.
'Please sir, ma'am, spare two euros? I've nothing, anything at all is a huge kindness and very much appreciated. I want to find my family, get on my feet.' her pleas reached Damian's ears, and he was touched. He waited to see if the people would listen to her appeal.
Nobody appeared to be listening, nobody gave the lass anything, not even a kind woes to help brighten her day, even just a little bit.

Ten minutes more went by, and more folk ignored Erinn. Finally, Damian decided to go and see if there was possibly anything he could do to help her out. He walked over to her, speaking slowly and gently.
'Do ya need help of any kind, so? I've seen that others haven't been so well.. civil to say the least.' offered the lad, an outstretched hand to help her up onto her feet.
Erinn gave him a long look, wondering whether she should trust this lad. Weren't people all the same, when it comes down to it; she wondered to herself. There was something in those eyes of his that made her want to trust him, she had often heard that the eyes are the windows to the soul, and he looked to be as decent a lad as they come.

I like how you point out Erinn's developed paranoia of people. It makes the personality of the character more realistic.
