The sound of the keyboard clicked incessantly. The words were flowing from her fingers more freely than any stream. She glanced out the window, which was just above her computer screen, and sighed. It was all so beautiful.
“Whatcha doin’? A voice asked from behind. Just then, a head of black hair settled onto her shoulder.
“I’m writing.” She answered in as playful a tone, resting her temple onto his.
“But Julie,” Ryan began, suddenly taking his head/pillow away. “Look outside!” He ushered to the lush greenery that sat just beyond the crystal. “Look at the sun! It’s beckoning you!” He said, then in a light whispered tone “’ Julie …come outside with Ryan…”
The blonde laughed, the sound of merry bells. “But it’s the sun that inspired me to write!”
Ryan’s beam, which threatened the sun with its bright intensity all its own, now changed to a glare. “Traitor.” This of course was said to the sun, not to his girlfriend. The next was. “But you’re in Ireland!” He whined. “Come outside, come with me, we’ll have fun!”
“No can do.”
“But…But…” He searched his mind for anything he could use to convince her. “But we have horses! We can go horseback riding.”
“Not today.” She replied simply.
“Then, how about we…we…have a picnic?” He scrounged his mind for another suggestion, while ensnaring her into his arms and putting his head back to his perch, his green eyes pleading.
“If you’re so ready to go outside, then go!” Julie giggled and shoved his arm away lightly. “I’ve promised my friends a new story, and soon! That means I have to get working.”
“You can take a break.” He tugged at her hand once more, but she took her fingers back and placed them on her keyboard, typing again, and not looking up.
“Unlike you, I know that soon means soon!” She rolled her eyes, but it was obvious there was no real irritation.
“It will be done soon though.” Ryan insisted, grabbing a stool from the connecting kitchen and placing it next to her.
“Like how your CD took a year?” he sat on the stool loudly, as if shocked she’d say such a thing. His shock then turned to a pout.
“You didn’t have to bring that up.”
“Sorry sweetheart, just saying, this needs to get done! And don’t bribe me with the pleasures of Ireland, I told you, they’re exactly what’s making me want to write!”
Ryan decided o try one last thing. He put his arm around her waste again and tried to pull her close. “Then let me help.” He sounded sweet and sincere, even as Anna’s fingers started getting further and further away from what she was trying to say.
“Ryan, you’re making this increasingly difficult.” Julie scolded, but that didn’t stop him.
“I just want to be with you.” He continued. “I can help, I promise.” By this time, the slight woman was almost in his lap. She pushed away and settled back into the desk chair.
“You can help…” She stroked her chin in thought. “Hmm…you can help…aha!” She turned back to him, her fingers in a square, like she was taking a picture. “By sitting right there.”
“But I-“
“And staying perfectly still. And VERY quiet.”
“But…why?”
With a sly grin, she leaned over and said, “Because you’re my muse.” With that, she took his lips with her own.
Ryan placed his hand on the base of her neck, kissing her back, but it was then she pulled away. “That’s not staying still.” She scolded.
“‘You’re making this increasingly difficult.’” He quoted with a coy smile, scooting away.
“Then it would appear we’re at an impasse.” Julie told him, as she pressed a button on the computer. “Seeing as you can’t leave me be, and I can’t come with you.” Ryan began to say something, but she stopped him. “Don’t say you can help me. Seems you can’t stay still either!” Both laughed just as the printer whirred to life.
“Okay, then…” With a sudden exuberance, he snatched up one of the supplies on the table, before sliding out the first few pages of her manuscript, still warm from running through the machine. He clicked the instrument twice, causing to metal prongs to fly out. “I’ll man the stapler.”
Julie smiled then, not holding in her laugh, which was robust and practically knocked her from the chair. Ryan’s face didn’t change through out the whole scenario, he still help up the stapler, and stared on, looking for approval.
When she calmed down, she leaned towards him and kissing him a last time. “That’s perfect.”
