Make a sound and you’re dead” the voice growled in her ear. Joley Masterson froze as she felt the cold metal bite into her back. “Look I don’t have much, but you can have my purse, I won’t even call the police.” She was surprised at how calm her voice sounded because inside she was shaking. “It’s not your money we’re after Dr. Masterson, now move!” She could try to scream but she didn’t relish getting shot, and it would be pretty pointless as she looked around the deserted parking garage. Cursing herself for working so late, she willed her numb legs to move. “How do you know my name?” “Don’t worry about that.” He said shoving her forward. She noted the thick accent of her attacker he definitely wasn’t from around here. “Get in the car.” He said as he opened the back door of a dark sedan with tinted windows. Doing as he said, she slid across the seat. “Drive” he said to the figure in the front as he slammed the door shut. With that, the car screeched out of the garage. Fear racked her body as she contemplated what she was going to do; not that she could do much. With the car’s windows blackened, she couldn’t flag anyone down, and she thought about trying the door. “I wouldn’t try it if I were you.” It was as if he had read her thoughts. “Tell me what you want.” She finally spared a look at her captor. From his profile he didn’t seem very old, but all she could really see was blonde hair and rough stubble. “Where are you taking me?” she took his silence as an indication that he wasn’t about to tell her. They drove for what seemed like forever, taking so many twists and turns that Joley gave up trying to figure out their route. Suddenly the car came to a hault. The driver killed the engine and got out. Her captor started to get out, but then turned to her and said “Don’t bother trying to run, or scream it will do you no good.” And with that, he clamped a rather large hand on her wrist and dragged her out of the car. Grabbing her purse from her, he said “This way” indicating a path with his head. She once again she was forced to walk blindly, this time down a path almost overgrown with vegetation. Though the night was chilly she felt the sweat of her fear trickle down the back of her neck. At one point she tripped and started to fall, but even before she could so much as brace herself for the fall, an arm like a band of steel wrapped around her waist, hauling her up to her feet. The sudden motion caused her to lose her balance and she fell backward into a solid chest. “Watch your step.” The voice was like a whisper in her ear, and for a split second she felt her knees weaken and savored the feel of his arm around her. Then she remembered he was kidnapping her. Pushing herself away she continued to follow the path, til she came to an opening where a log cabin stood. The driver, who had been leading the way, opened the door and motioned for them to go in.

The room that she walked into was spacious, yet cozy all at the same time. There was a fire going in the fireplace, yet it had all the modern advantages. Walking to one of the rooms, he shoved her in and ordered her to sit on the bed. She sat nervously while she watched him walk around gathering things up; first a chair, then some rope, oh lord what was he going to do to her? She startled when he squatted and came eye level with her. For the first time she was able to see him fully. She took in the blue eyes that seemed to have concern in them, despite what he was doing. “Look.” He said “I’m sorry I have no choice.” He took her from the bed and placed her on the chair, and began to bind her hands and feet. With a final look of apology, he placed a piece of duct tape on her mouth and left the room, shutting the door behind him. “Were you able to pull it off?” Ryan asked Keith as he returned. “She’s tied up in there.” He motioned to the room behind him. “I feel horrible though. What am I doing? I don’t kidnap people at gunpoint!” “Well it wasn’t exactly gunpoint” Damian said pointing to the crow bar that Keith had used to take the girl. “You used a crowbar?” this from Paul, who was just then walking in with George and Neil, carrying the rest of their gear. “I’m sorry I couldn’t force myself to use a gun, like I said I don’t do this sort of thing!” frustrated he began to pace the floor. “I just know that I have to get Rebecca back.” “Well did she tell you where the flash drive is?” He stopped long enough to look at George, “We just got here, I haven’t had a chance to question her yet, and besides it’s late. I’ll start in the morning. For now let’s just get some food and start figuring out how we’re going to get a hold of that flash drive once I get her to tell me where it is.” “Think she’ll tell you?” “heck I don’t know if she even knows about it, but if nothing else maybe she’ll be able to tell us where her brother’s been hiding; because without that drive I don’t know that I’ll ever see my sister again.” The look on his face was one of anguish. She could hear several other men talking, all of them with similar accents, European, possibly Ireland. Joley felt the rope cut into her wrists as she tried to free herself; her attempts were futile. Tears formed in her blue eyes as she thought about what they might do with her; heck she still didn’t know what they wanted from her. Where was Conner when she needed him? Her computer analyst brother had become MIA in the last few months. Matter of fact, the last time she’d spoken to him he seemed really edgy, but when she asked him about it, he brushed it off as stress at work. She’d let it go, because she was too caught up in what was going on in her own life to care; her job as pediatric surgeon kept her pretty busy. As she struggled, she now wished she had seen more of him; who knows if that would be the last conversation she would have with him. She held her breath as the door opened, the blonde man, yet to identify himself walked in carrying a tray of food. He set it down on the corner table and turned to her. “I’m going to remove the tape, so long as you don’t scream. Understand?” she gave a nod, and he ripped the tape off. She bit back the scream and merely whimpered at the pain she felt as the tape came free. “Are you left handed or right handed?” “Right” she mumbled. He untied her right hand and dragged the table over. “Here, eat something.” She looked at the tray and then at the man; “How do I know you’re not trying to poison me?” “Because if I had wanted you dead, you would be.” He said; Part of her shivered as she began to eat the stew in front of her somewhat awkwardly. Before she knew it, she had consumed the whole thing, along with the glass of milk that was provided. The man beside her chuckled “Hungry?” he asked; “Well I didn’t have lunch and was planning a nice dinner when someone decided that I had other plans.” She retorted as she sent him a glance. He sighed as he sat down on the bed and held his head in his hands; “I’m sorry.” “So you keep saying, yet here I sit tied to this chair. You still haven’t told me what it is you want with me.” He shifted so he could look at her “What can you tell me about your brother?” confused she asked “Conner? What about him?” “Where is he hiding?” “Hiding? I know I haven’t seen him in a few months, but I’ve been really busy, I wouldn’t say that he’s hiding.” “Funny, cuz we’ve been looking for him for a month now, and can’t seem to find him anywhere.” “What do you want with Conner?” “Let’s just say that he has something that I need.” He said moving the table. “I’m sorry, but this is a necessity.” He said as he re-tied her arm, and replaced the tape. After looking at her with regret, he picked up the tray and walked out.

Cool beans so far. X3
But if I might make a suggestion, when each person starts talking, you should start a new paragraph. Like this:
"Damian, did you eat my secret stash of chocolate?"
"No, Paul; I wasn't even aware you had one. Thanks for the tip!"
It would make it a lot easier to keep track of who's talking if you did that. Thanks! ^___^

“Is she talking yet?” Neil inquired when Keith returned. “She claims she doesn’t know that her brother’s been hiding out, and I hate to say it, but I believe her.” He said as he walked to the kitchen. “So what are you going to do?” “What can I do? I can’t exactly let her go right now because she’ll go to the cops. However you know that despite who my grandfather was I can’t kill her either. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see if the brother contacts her. For now, I suggest we all get some sleep.” Joley was scared, despite the look of regret on her kidnapper’s face, she still didn’t know what was going to happen to her. What had Conner gotten her into now? What could he possibly have that someone needed? Yeah he worked on computers, but nothing out of the ordinary, at least nothing that she knew of. She closed her eyes and tried to recall their last conversation. ‘Conner? Conner!’ ‘What huh? Oh sorry Joley, what did you say?’ ‘I said are you going to be able to meet me tomorrow for lunch?’ ‘I don’t think so Joley, things are um kind of stressful right now, I don’t think that I’ll be able to get away, but um I love you and I’ll try and get in touch soon, but always remember I love you ok? I gotta go Joley.’ ‘But Conner wait what are you-‘ he’d hung up before she could even finish her sentence. Now that she thought about it, she wondered if he was in trouble; he sounded very harried and distracted. Oh Conner, what’s going on? She thought as the door opened and he walked in. Untying her arms, he said “Get up. Do you have to go to the bathroom?” she nodded her head as she rubbed at the soreness on her wrists. “Through here, leave the door cracked.” With that he left her to do her business. ‘No escaping here’ she thought as she looked around the windowless bathroom. However she was grateful for the chance to relieve the pressure on her bladder, and throw some cold water on her face. This is what caused her to stop and think about the man that had kidnapped her. For starters, he wasn’t very old and he seemed ill at ease, like he was unsure of himself. And she was no expert on kidnapping, but she didn’t think most kidnappers would have the common courtesy to ask if she needed to use the facilities. That combined with the look of regret in his eyes when he tied her up made her think that this was not a man who did this for a living, but more of a desperate man just trying to do what he thinks is right. With one last glance in the mirror, she entered the bedroom where he was waiting. “I need you to lie down on the bed.” Panic filled her, could she have been wrong, was he going to do what she thought he might? “Don’t worry, I’m not going to try anything, it’s bedtime, and well I can’t have you trying to slip out while I’m sleeping.” “Oh, um ok” she said as she lied down. Taking her hands once again, he tied them to the bed post, and sent her another apologetic look. “What’s your name?” she asked suddenly curious. Looking back as he left, he said “You can just call me Keith.” Joley awoke groggily the next morning. She’d had the oddest dream about being kidnapped. She went to stretch her arms and was stopped. Opening her eyes fully, she realized that she wasn’t dreaming. She then remembered the conversation that she had with Keith, who she now knew as her captor. She struggled to sit; it took more effort than she thought and her chestnut hair clung to her face by the time she was done. She was getting ready to try and wipe her forehead when the door opened. She was startled when a dark haired figure appeared, and not Keith. “Breakfast is ready.” He said with the same thick accent as he set the tray down and began to untie her. “May I use the bathroom first?” she inquired of the boy, whom she now recognized as the driver from the previous night. “Just remember to leave the door cracked.” Nodding she headed to the bathroom. “You don’t look old enough to be involved in something like this.” She said returning. “Let’s just say I’m helping out a friend.” He said motioning for her to sit. He re-tied her left arm and said “Enjoy” As he walked out. “I can see why you couldn’t kill her.” Damian said returning; “Other than the fact that you’re not a killer, she’s nice and her looks don’t hurt either.” He wiggled his eyebrows. Keith merely rolled his eyes; “I don’t care what she looks like, I just need to find out if she can lead me to the flash drive.” However he couldn’t help but recall how she felt against him when he’d kept her from falling the previous night. He shoved the memory from his thoughts he needed to keep a clear head. Just then his cell phone rang. “Hello?” “Do you have it?” the dark voice inquired. “I’m working on it.” “Well I suggest you work quickly, I’d hate for anything to happen to your precious Rebecca.” Keith tried to swallow the anger and fear building in his throat.” I want to talk to her.” “I don’t think so.” The voice was cold and calculated. “How do I know you haven’t killed her already and you’re just messing with me in order to get your flash drive?” “Fine” “Keith?” his sister sobbed. “Oh god Rebecca, are you ok?” temporary relief flooded through his body; at least she wasn’t dead. “For now, oh Keith please help me, I’m so scared!” “I know, and I promise if it’s the last thing I do, I will find you. Just remember that-“ “That’s enough; you have your proof, now get what I asked for.” With that, the call was disconnected. Frustrated, Keith slammed a fist into the nearest wall and let out a cry that seemed only fit for a dying animal. His friends merely looked on, they knew better than to try and comfort Keith at that moment. Several minutes passed before he turned and said “We’re going to get that drive.”

Joley couldn’t hear much of what was going on, other than talking. She was still scared, but the courtesy that she was shown made her think that they weren’t really going to hurt her. Then she heard it; it was a cry so pitiful that she thought someone had died. She held her breath for a minute until she heard the talking continue. The voices grew closer and suddenly the door was thrown open; by the look on his face, she could tell that Keith was the one that had let out that cry. His eyes were wild as he untied her other hand, which made her a little more frightened than she was just a minute ago. “Get up.” He said rather roughly and hauled her out of the chair. “Where are we going?” “You’re going to call your brother and get him to meet you.” He said as he tossed her cell phone at her. “Why would I do that? How do I know you don’t want to hurt him?” “Look, he has something I want, once I get that back, you both are free to go. This is not about either of you.” His eyes pleaded with her, and for some reason she believed him. Opening her phone, she dialed the all too familiar number. Conner finally picked up on the fourth ring. “Joley?” “Yeah Conner it’s me, how are you?” she tried to keep her voice calm. “I’m um I’m ok I guess, uh working you know.” “Really, well do you have time to get together?” “Not really I mean I have work and then, um Joley this is really not a good time.” Her brother sounded so harried and nervous. “Oh come on Conner, I haven’t seen you in months, and I really need to talk to you.” She pleaded, trying to avoid Keith’s eyes that were staring a hole in her. “Oh Joley, can’t we do this some other time, I mean, that is.” He was fumbling now. “Please Conner?” “Oh ok fine, um do you know where the diner is on 5th and Division?” Keith looked questioningly at her; though he’d been to Chicago many times, he still was finding his was around most of the time. Nodding her head at Keith she replied “Yeah I know the one, say 3 o’clock?” “That’s fine Joley, I really have to go though.” Before she could utter a reply, he’d hung up. “Happy?” she said as she snapped her phone closed. “Extremely; now change into these, you’ll be more comfortable.” He handed her a set of sweats. As she reached out for the clothes, he noticed her wrists and took one into his hand. The skin was red and torn in spots where she had pulled at it; she knew that it wasn’t that bad and could be cured with some peroxide and antibiotic cream, but she wasn’t about to ask for any, especially when she knew that they were only going to get worse. She held her breath as he held her hand; suddenly dropping it, he said “Get dressed;” And walked out. The sweats were a little on the big side, though definitely more comfortable than the suit she had been in for the last 24 hrs. She’d just come out of the bathroom when Keith walked in and motioned her back. A little bit frightened she stumbled back and watched him set several things on the sink. “Hands;” he said indicating hers. Slowly she stuck out her hands, not sure of what to expect. He took one, held it over the sink and began to pour hydrogen peroxide on her wounds. She bit down on her lip as the liquid bubbled in the infected areas. Next he applied a cream that she couldn’t make out, but it seemed to take the sting out; finally he bandaged the entire thing. When he was done, he dropped it and repeated the procedure with her other wrist. Finishing he walked out and closed the door; she noted two things. One, he had bandaged her wrists when he noticed them infected, and two he hadn’t tied her back up because of it. Not that she could go anywhere, she thought as she looked around the windowless room. “Here George, put these away.” Keith tossed the medical supplies at his friend. “So the meeting’s all set for tomorrow then?” Ryan asked from the corner of the room “Yeah 3 o’clock at some diner on the corner of 5th and Division.” “Think he’ll bring it with?” Keith sighed; “I don’t even know if he knows what he has, I just need to question him to figure that all out. However I can’t just go in there and expect him to answer me, he doesn’t even know me for Christ’s sake. I was hoping that we could get him to tell his sister and therefore tell us.” “You thinkin of having her wear a wire?” Neil inquired. “Definitely, can you help with that?” he asked Neil, who was their resident gadget guy. “No problem, just let me know when.” “Sure thing, for now let’s work out a plan for tomorrow.” “You want me to do what?!” Joley looked at Keith with a bit of shock. “I want you to wear a wire so we can see what your brother has to say for himself.” “And just where the heck do you expect me to put this wire?” she inquired. His gaze dropped to her chest and lingered long enough to make Joley blush. “Oh you’ve got to be freaking kidding me!” “It’s the most inconspicuous place.” This from the tech man Keith referred to as Neil. “And what if I refuse?” Keith looked at her “Trust me you won’t.” his voice cold enough to send shivers down her spine. After a minute, she huffed out “Fine.” “Good, can you set her up Neil?” “Sure thing, uh-“ he regarded Joley somewhat nervously. “What?!” she barked at him. “Well I’m gonna need you to, that is, um-“ Finally it dawned on her that he would need her to take off her shirt in order to wire her. “Oh, right, sorry.” Looking at Keith, she said “Can you please turn around?” Rolling his eyes, Keith did as she asked. As Neil began to explain the contraption to her, Keith thought to himself “God she’s beautiful.” He chuckled as he realized that she was completely oblivious to the fact that when he turned it put him directly in front of the bedroom mirror, which allowed him to see everything that was going on. Like the fact that although she was prim and proper on the outside, she had preference for lacey undergarments. He tried to steal himself against his body’s reaction and concentrate on the bigger picture-getting Rebecca back. “You’ll need to clip that mic higher.” He said before he could stop himself. “Well where the he-“ Joley stopped as she realized he’d been watching her in the mirror. Their eyes locked in the mirror, and for a minute she couldn’t breathe; her throat went dry as he looked at her with more than a wire on his mind. But before she could react, it was gone leaving her to wonder if she’d seen it in the first place. Clipping the mic in place and pulling her shirt back over her head, she said “We’re done;” “Good, because we’re going to have to get going if you’re going to meet your brother at 3.” “Ok” she sighed. Keith took her hand; “Are you going to be ok?” “You ask me that as if I have a choice.” She said pulling her hand back. “I’m sorry Joley, I wish there was some other way.” “Yeah whatever, can we just go?” “After you” he said gesturing at the open doorway.

The diner was crowded as Joley walked in; scanning the crowd, she saw Conner sitting in a corner booth. “Hey Conner!” she tried to keep her voice as normal as possible, but it was hard knowing that Keith, Neil, and whoever else was out there listening. “Joley, hey.” He got up and hugged her, “Have a seat.” He said gesturing at the booth. “Thanks.” “So what’ll you folks have?” the waitress addressed them. “Just coffee for me;” Joley said; Conner just ordered water. “So how have you been? You don’t look too good.” She said taking in the scruffy beard, dark circles under his eyes, and wrinkled clothes. “Things have been rough the last month or so.” He said eyes scanning the diner, like he was expecting someone or something. She needed to tell him, needed to warn him, but with Keith listening, how was she ever going to? Grabbing her purse she dug out a pen and grabbed a napkin; frantically she wrote: In trouble? Someone is looking for you. Sliding it across the table she motioned for him to read it. “What the-“ Putting her finger to her lips she motioned for him to be quiet. She grabbed the napkin and wrote : They have me wired, they can hear us, not sure if they can see us. Taking her pen he scrawled and handed the napkin back. She looked down and read: Someone’s after me, I was on a job and some info was accidentally downloaded to my flash drive. Top secret info Joley-assassination attempts. Her breath caught as she read the last line. Remembering that Keith was listening, she began chit chatting idly. “So how’s Jason?” she asked referring to Conner’s best friend. When he looked at her quizzically she pointed at her ear indicating that they should cover their tracks. “OH he’s good, you know same old Jason.” Grabbing another napkin she wrote furiously WHAT? Have you gone to the authorities? I’ve tried, they won’t listen, someone’s following me, I have a contact at the Senate that’s suppose to meet with me in 48 hrs. I’m scared Joley, but I don’t want you involved, so forgive me. She read the napkin and was trying to figure it out when suddenly he knocked her purse on the ground and spilled its contents. “OH I’m so sorry Joley, let me help you.” They bent and picked up her stuff, shoving the last of it in her purse. Suddenly she looked up and saw Keith coming towards them. “Run Conner!” Looking up frantically her brother started to take off, but suddenly he stopped and turned “Remember mom’s always with you Joley.” And with that he crashed into the waitress, who was headed in their direction with more coffee and took off out the side door. “Quick he’s getting away!” Keith shouted into his wrist mic. “If looks could kill, I’ve just died.” Joley thought; meeting Keith’s cold stare as he stalked towards her. Grabbing her arm, he pulled her towards the exit, once they got outside he spoke once again into his mic “Did you guys cat-“ Just then they heard a flurry of gunfire and squealing tires. Keith dragged her down a side alley where the sedan that he’d first taken her in was parked. “Get in and keep your head down.” He said shoving her across the seat. Starting the car, he slammed it into gear and whipped around the corner. “George? Ryan? Anyone?” he said speaking frantically into his mic. Joley was shaking with fear. What the heck was going on? Who was shooting, and at whom? OH lord, was Conner hurt? Tears welled in her eyes as she thought of the only family she had left. Just then the car jerked to a stop, the back door opened and George and Paul hauled Neil into the car. “Neil’s been shot!” Paul slammed the door shut.

“OMG Neil; Ryan, Damian, where are you?” he shouted into the mic. “Alright, I’m coming around the corner.” Rounding the corner, he picked up Ryan and Damian who jumped in. “What the heck just happened?” Ryan asked slamming the door behind him. “I don’t know, but Neil got shot.” The scene was unfolding like something from a movie for Joley, she could barely think; then she looked at Neil, and the Dr. in her took over. Turning to Damian, who happened to be sitting next to her, she said “Quick give me your scarf.” Damian did as she asked. Twisting in her seat, she said to Paul, “Lift up his shirt so I can look at it.” Paul did as she asked, Neil screaming as the blood-soaked shirt pulled away from the wound. Joley examined it for a minute; it had been awhile since she’d done ER rounds as a resident, but it was like riding a bike. Handing Paul the scarf she said “It doesn’t look that bad, but I need you to hold this on the wound, and apply pressure, not too much or you could cause it to tear, um pretend like you’re testing a tomato at the grocery store, that much pressure. That’ll hold him over til we get him to the hospital.” “Hospital? We can’t take him to the hospital.” Keith said from beside her as he drove. “But you have to, he needs to see a Dr.” “Last time I checked, you were a Dr.” Came his reply as he jumped on the expressway. “I’m a surgeon, a pediatric one at that, I work on kids!” “Well Neil’s sometimes like a big kid.” Damian tried to lighten the mood, but you could see the fear on his face as he watched Neil groan in pain. “Look.” Keith said getting back to the subject at hand “We can’t go to the police, because then they’ll call the cops, and I can’t have that. I don’t need them questioning us. So are you going to help him or not?” Joley never hesitated “How long til we get back to the cabin, I assume that’s where we’re going?” Keith looked gratefully at her. “About 20 minutes” Looking back at Paul she said “Keep the pressure on til we get there, he should be fine til then.” Arriving at the cabin, Joley directed George and Paul to lay Neil out on the bed in the bedroom. She told Keith to gather any medical supplies that they had, and told Ryan to bring her towels and boiling water. Running on pure adrenaline she pulled back the scarf that Paul had been holding on there; relief flooded through her system. He’d only been grazed-badly mind you, but at least this meant that she didn’t try and have to perform surgery in this god forsaken place. She quickly went to work and patched him up as best she could without use of proper medical supplies. When she was done, she handed him some ibuprofens with a glass of whiskey. “Normally I wouldn’t prescribe the two together, but this is not a normal situation.” He chuckled painfully “Thank you Dr. Masterson, truly I’m grateful” he squeezed her hand. She smiled and told him to rest. As she walked out into the living room, Keith jumped up from his chair. “Is he going to be alright?” “Yes it was just a very deep flesh wound. He needs to rest though.” “Good.” He tipped his head Heaven ward in thanks. Joley was glad that she was able to help out, but she was still concerned for Conner; if Neil had gotten shot, what would keep them from shooting her brother? “Do we know what happened?” “Well when Keith said he was making a break for it, we all split up- George, Neil, and I and Ryan and Damian.” Paul said. “We caught up with Conner first, but just as we were going to corner him this guy came out of nowhere. Neil tried to intervene, that’s when they shot him.” “Do you know if, that is, did they-“ “Last I saw your brother he’d ducked down a stairwell unharmed.” He said reading her thoughts. “Thank you.” She said hoping against hope that Conner had gotten away. “I’m sure he’s fine.” She hadn’t seen Keith walk up behind her. “Yeah, you’re probably right. So now that I saved your friend, can you tell me just what the heck is going on?” Keith sighed. “Have a seat” he motioned towards the couch.

“About a month ago, Rebecca-that’s my sister, was walking home from the studio when someone came up and grabbed her.” “Wow sounds like we have something in common already.” She replied dryly; Keith merely looked at her. “Continue.” “Anyway, he took her and then called me and said that if I ever wanted to see my sister alive again, that I would do exactly what they said.” His voice caught on the last sentence, she could tell that he truly cared for his sister and was scared for her life. “But why her? Why you?.” Keith took a deep breath; “I’m going to tell you this, because for some reason I trust you. You see, back in the day, my grandfather was big into the spy scene” “Wait, she said you mean like as in spy spy, like 007 spy scene?” He nodded. “Needless to say, he made a lot of enemies in that line of work.” “But why not go after him?” “Hard to go after a man that’s been dead 5 yrs.” “Oh I’m sorry” her face fell. “It’s ok, but I can’t help feeling like this whole thing is my fault.” “Your fault? Why would it be your fault?” she asked confused. “You see after he decided to bow out of the world of espionage, he put his family into hiding, and we’ve been ok. That is until I decided that I HAD to sing for a living.” “Sing? You mean you’re not-“ “Carrying on the family tradition? No that died with my grandfather.” “But I still don’t see how you being a singer has anything to do with this.” Keith merely chuckled to himself and looked at her “You honestly have NO idea who we are do you?” Joley sat back and couldn’t help but think “Wow, pompous much?” One would think that it was the end of the world that she didn’t know them with the way he’d said that. “Sorry, no clue.” She huffed out. Before she knew what was happening, Keith walked to the corner of the room and picked up a guitar that she hadn’t noticed before. He sat down and began to play; “They say the skies of Lebanon are burning….” Almost immediately she was transplanted back to her office, weren’t the girls gushing over something like this? Celtic something they were always talking about. She however was always too caught up in her work to pay attention to what was going on around her. Suddenly she realized that he’d stopped playing and was looking at her. “I know that song, you guys must be that Celtic group right? The girls at my office are always gushing about you guys.” George chuckled “Yeah we’re Celtic Thunder.” “What?! You don’t gush about us with them?” this from Paul who’d walked into the room. Joley merely smiled, “Sorry I’m usually too caught up with patients to realize what they’re talking about.” “Anyway” Keith said bring the conversation back to the subject at hand. “Whoever this is obviously made the connection with my grandfather when we began appearing everywhere. Poor Rebecca is merely a pawn in a much larger game.” His eyes welled with tears as he thought of his baby sister. He felt Joley’s hand on his arm “I’m so sorry Keith, is there anything that I can do to help?” He finally looked at her and said “Well you can start by telling me what your brother told you.” Joley shifted in her seat; “All I know is that he said that someone is after him.” “Does he know why?” she nodded; “He said that while he was on a job some information got downloaded to his flash drive.” Her voice dropped to a whisper as she leaned in “He said it talked about assassination attempts Keith.” He could sense the fear in her voice. “Did he mention who or where?” “No he didn’t go beyond that.” “Did he say where he hid it?” “No, however he did say that he had a contact at the Senate that he’s suppose to meet in a couple of days.” “I don’t suppose he mentioned a name did he?” “No, sorry,” “Don’t worry about it, but can I ask you something?” “What?” she asked nervously “Why did you tell your brother to run?” “Why wouldn’t I? I mean look at what you did to me Keith, do you seriously think I’d let that happen to my brother?” “Fair enough, but you’ve got to understand that I just want to get my sister back.” She laid a hand on his arm; “I know that now, and while I respect that, you have to understand that at the time, I was scared for myself and Conner.” Keith stopped the pacing he had started for a minute; “Understandable.” She looked at him, her eyes softening, “But now that everything is out in the open, can we agree to work together? I don’t want anything to happen to Conner, and I certainly want to see you get Rebecca back.” Keith nodded and grabbed her hand, squeezing it gently. “Thank you, that means a lot.” “So where do we start?” “Well first things first, is Neil well enough to travel?” “Not for a few days, I want to make sure that the stitches hold and it starts healing.” “Ok then for now we just start planning our next move.” “I can stay here with Neil if you guys have a lead.” George interjected; Keith shook his head “No I’ve already risked his life once, and if Dr. Masterson” “Joley” she said. His gaze softened as he looked at her briefly “If Joley” he repeated thinks that Neil needs to rest, then that’s just what he’s going to do, and I want her here in case something happens.” George nodded; “What do we do in the mean time?” “Well” he looked at Joley, “Do you mind trying to get a hold of Conner again?” Not hesitating, she said “Let me get my phone.” Conner’s voicemail picked up on the fourth ring “Hey it’s Conner, leave it at the beep!” “Conner, it’s Joley I need you to call me, I need to know that you’re ok. Please call me.” She pleaded as she hung up and turned to Keith; “He wasn’t there.” “So I heard-you gonna be ok?” “Yeah I guess, so what’s our next move?” “We sit tight and wait til Neil’s healed and we hear from your brother.”

“Thanks for meeting with me Senator Briggs” Conner said as he stepped into the Senator’s office. He’d hoped this would be worth it, the flight from Chicago had been horrendous, constantly looking over his shoulder and changing his usual travel patterns. “Non-sense, Sandy’s been a good colleague and friend, please have a seat.” He motioned to the plush chairs of his office. “Did she tell you what this was regarding?” Conner asked as he thought of his reporter friend. Sandy worked for The Post and spent a lot of time on Capitol Hill, and had never let him down before. The Senator leaned back in his chair and folded his hands “All she told me was that it was a matter of National Security” Conner nodded; “Sir I work for AD Systems as a systems analyst; Recently some things were downloaded accidentally to my hard drive that lead me to believe that several political figures here in Washington are in danger.” The Senator let the information process and looked at Conner “I see, did you happen to bring this drive with you? I mean you must realize that there are threats around Washington almost daily, but I’d like to get it to our experts to have it analyzed and validated.” Conner stood and began pacing; “I don’t have it with me, I have it in safe keeping for now. I think I’m being followed by whoever this information belongs to. However I can have it here in 48 hrs.” “Good, good.” The Senator replied “but not here.” He handed Conner a card with an address and nothing else “Meet me at that address, say 7?” When Conner questioned him, he merely replied “No need to cause panic through the streets of Washington if it isn’t necessary.” Nodding Conner took the card and confirmed the meeting before he left. Right after he left, Senator James Briggs picked up the phone “Yes Sir?” came the voice “Follow him” “Yes Sir.” What the heck was he going to do now? He had no clue, however he had to figure that out later. He was headed to a meeting when his cell phone rang. Already frustrated, he practically barked into the phone “Briggs” “Rough day Senator?” the dark voice asked. “What do you want?” “Oh I think you know exactly what I want-did he bring it?” “No I’ve set up a meeting 48 hrs from now-are you ready?” he asked as he rattled off the address “Very good.” “Yeah yeah, just tell me those documents are going to disappear.” “All in good time Senator, all in good time” the voice was so cold that it felt as though the temperature in the room dropped 10 degrees. “Good, because after that I don’t want to hear from-“ The call was disconnected before he could finish.

It was going to be good to see Conner again Joley thought as she sat restless on the flight to DC. He’d finally called yesterday frantic to know if she was ok and had they hurt her. He’d said that he could tell by the encounter that they were really after him and he knew that so long as he was on the run, they wouldn’t hurt her. She of course informed him that she was perfectly fine and had explained the situation with Keith. They’d finalized plans to meet at his hotel in Washington before his meeting with Senator Briggs, who would hopefully be able to help with the Rebecca situation. She looked at Keith, who had drifted off about 15 minutes into the flight. He was exhausted, but would never admit it, even though she’d barely seen him catch a few minutes here and there. Watching him she thought about the rough exterior that he tried to present, when inside she could tell that he was a teddy bear. Especially now, as she watched a lock of hair fall across his face; he was so vulnerable, yet so strong to be able to do what he’d done in the last few days all in the name of finding his sister. She could understand that as she thought of her brother, it was just the two of them now, and she didn’t know what she’d do without him. Still, there was something else that drew her to Keith. She didn’t know if it was their circumstances or not, but there was something. Something so strong, that before she knew it, she was touching his face and moving the hair out of his eyes. He must have felt it, because he began to stir and just when she went to pull her hand away, he did something she hadn’t expected-he turned his face still sleeping into her hand, caressing it softly. “Mmmm…” he mumbled happily. She froze; not knowing what to do, she whispered his name “Keith” “Hmm?” came the sleepy response as he settled in more comfortably against her. “Keith.” She said a little more forcefully. This jarred him out of his temporary euphoria. “What?” he sat up suddenly, but not before he realized the position he’d been in. Looking at her he held her gaze for a minute before making his apologies. “No apology necessary, you were exhausted and I figured you must have been dreaming.” “Uh yeah I guess so” he said slightly embarrassed. “How long til we land?” “Probably about 30 minutes.” “Good, you told your brother we’d meet him at the hotel?” Nodding, they prepared for landing. Conner was just getting ready to leave his hotel room, when there was a knock at the door. He wondered if Joley had arrived early; checking his watch he determined that it couldn’t have been-her flight wasn’t due in for another 30 minutes. Checking the peep hole, he noticed that it was a room service attendant, he opened the door and replied “I didn’t order any-“ he stopped when he saw the attendant extract a gun from his side. “That’s ok Mr. Masterson, I’m not here for room service.” He said discontentedly as he waved him back into the room and shut the door.

*gasps* NOooo Conner!!!!!!!!! Actually, I think that was my favorite post so far in this story because of the scene with Keith and Joley. The way you described Keith and how he was like a "teddy bear" was just adorable and it really got to the point in a cute way
