We sat there, On our bikes, Overlooking the sparkling water, Admiring how it glinted in the sunlight As we rested under an evergreen tree And talked of future days, What we would name our kids, What their careers would bring As we rode through the beaten path Our legs were tired, The strain of muscle and bone A healthy reminder Of our own humanness And yet, We trekked on, Taking the same route, And then a different one But always ending up at that same place The place where we could see The shimmering water The effulgent rays And the great conifers Because We recognized That life goes on In a circular motion And we always end up meeting once again At the place by the lake.
