This is my How-To Manual To Murder Writer’s Block
I treat my Writer’s Block like it is a person that has invaded my creative thought processes and I have to kill them to get back to my writing.
I plan out their death-most untimely, of course! Usually, this involves poisoning the Writer’s Block with a lovely Dictionary or Thesaurus. Once I have killed it with a plethora of brilliant creative words, I bury it in the back yard and put a flower over it. This involves tulip bulbs and/or other plants that come up every year. Needless to say, with this project we are doing, I have spent a bit of time at our local O’Donal’s Nursery plant shopping for my mother’s gardens on her front lawn. Usually this approach works-the poisoning of Writer’s Block, I mean. Every once in a blue moon, I have to shoot it. A BB gun and four or five sheets of paper taped to a rock usually does it at that point for me. You have to focus to shoot a BB gun at paper from 30 feet away so, my mind clears faster and I can work through it easier.
I find that I am able to focus my mind on the task at hand if I can move my thoughts from the blocking to the task after I have murdered it and buried it. I would recommend trying my idea because A-it can’t hurt to try a new method of getting past a Block; B-it may be fun for someone to try a new creative way to kill a Block; and C-for me it is fun to refocus my mind on killing rather than obsessing about the Block. Once it is vanquished, I feel better and I think it could work for others to try it as well.
Hope you all find this to be funny and fun for you!
