Here is a one shot that I just came up with. Just to let you know, I don't know what Paul's nieces real name is. And keep in mind that Damian is on a sugar high... lol
Paul had just gotten call from his sister, "Hi sis, what's up?" he asked.
"Are you doing anything right now?" she asked, Paul began to worry, whenever she used that question and tone of voice it normally meant she wanted him to do something for her.
"Well actually Damian and I are playing Mario cart, it is a really tight match," said Paul and as Damian really was over this would have been a plausible excuse if they had actually been doing that.
But as it was the tight match consisted of being 0 to 0 at the moment as they had not started yet.
"I know that you are not playing that right now Paul," teased his sister.
"How is that?" asked Paul in surprise.
"Because if you were you would not even have answered your phone," his sister pointed out with a laugh.
Paul groaned, he hated it when his sister did this to him, she was one of the few people that knew the way he thought and would use it against him.
"Alright you caught me sis, but Damian really is over," he protested.
"I am sure he is, but I could really use your help tonight," she said.
"With what?" asked Paul though he could already guess the answer as he knew the way that she thought as well.
"You know perfectly well, so don't play dumb, the kids haven't seen you for a week or so and it will be good for all of you," she said.
"You know I love watching the kids and spending time with them, but I have Damian here, and I don't want to leave him alone," said Paul desperate for an excuse.
"Hey," said Damian indignantly as he paused in the middle of a bite of a huge gooey doughnut, "I do not need to be watched," he said very loudly after taking a bite and talking with his mouth full and crumbs falling out.
Paul just shook his head and hissed, "You are so not helping here."
"See even Damian wants you to come over," said his sister laughing.
"Alright fine," said Paul finally giving in, "When and for how long do you need me?"
"In about half an hour, and until about 10," she said, "Thanks Paul you are a dear."
Paul huffed as he got off the phone, "Thanks a lot Damo," he said glaring at him.
"What did I do?" asked Damian with a grin as he stuffed the last bite of doughnut into his mouth.
"Nothing helpful," said Paul with a sigh.
"Well have fun babysitting," said Damian with a wink as he sat back on the couch and flipped on the television, I'll still be awake when you get back."
"Oh no you don't," said Paul grabbing the remote and turning it off, "You are not staying here without me, and because you were sooooo helpful, you are coming with me," he finished firmly.
Damian stared at Paul with his mouth hanging open in disbelief, "You seriously expect me to come with you?" he said.
"Of course," said Paul, "I might as well babysit all of you 'kids' together."
Half an hour later they arrived at Paul's sisters house, bags of supplies in hand.
His sister met him at the door,"Thank you so much for doing this Paul," she said giving him a quick kiss on the cheek.
"And that better not be any candy, bubble gum, and silly string like last time," she said giving him a warning glare as she gazed meaningfully at the bags.
"No see for yourself," said Paul opening the bags to reveal board and card games.
"Well lets see how long those last," she said with a smile.
"I already said goodbye to the kids, have fun and make sure that they are asleep by 9," she said with one last wave as she drove off.
"Well Damo, we're on our own now," said Paul.
They walked into the house and Paul was immediately pounced on by his niece and nephew.
Damian laughed at the site of Paul being tackled to the ground by them.
"Alright Jack and Kate," said Paul laughing, "I am happy to see you as well."
An hour, and after playing every single game that Paul had brought over later, Paul glanced at his watch.
"How did we get through all those games so quickly?" he asked in amazement.
"Alright kids," he said, "Almost time for bed," he said with a sigh of relief.
"Can we please have a snack first before we go to bed, please Uncle Paul?" asked Jack and Kate, making puppy dog eyes at him.
"Sure kids," said Paul with a sigh, he could never say no to them when they did that to him.
"Me too please Uncle Paul?" said Damian making puppy dog eyes as well, just before he cracked up and burst out laughing.
"Very funny Damo," said Paul shaking his head, "You are worse then they are you know."
"I think that he had too many oreos and doughnuts with sugar before we left," Paul muttered to himself.
"What would you like kids?" asked Paul.
"Candy," said Kate, "Ice cream," said Jack, "Popcorn," said Damian with a grin and a chuckle.
Paul ignored Damian and said, "I think we'll go with the ice cream."
He went over to the freezer and pulled out a few ice cream bars and handed one to each of the kids.
"Hey you forgot me!" said Damian pretending to pout.
"Oh for goodness sakes," exclaimed Paul in frustration, "Here," he said tossing the last one to Damian.
"I should have left you back at my place on the tele, but you would probably emptied my fridge by now though, so I guess I will just have to cut my losses." he said.
"Now, if this will wind me up," said Damian, "How do you think that the kids will go to bed with all of that sugar in them?" he asked.
"I'm sure they will..." said Paul uncertainly, "If not I will just tell them a bedtime story."
"You? tell a bedtime story!" exclaimed Damian, "This I have to hear," he said chuckling gleefully.
The kids were pretty hyper for awhile, Paul and Damian were finally able to calm them down enough to get them in their pajamas and brush their teeth.
Then Paul sat them down on the couch and said, "Who would like to hear a story?"
"I do," said Jack, Kate, and Damian at the same time, as they all started bouncing around on the couch.
Paul had them sit still and then he began, "Once upon a time a naughty rabbit named Damian went into Mr. Macgregor's garden...He was always so hungry that he couldn't resist the juicy vegetables."
The kids started giggling and looking at Damian.
"Hey I don't like this story at all,I don't like that many vegetables." protested Damian.
"Well, if you think you could do better go for it... " said Paul with a smirk.
"Alright, Once upon a time there lived a grumpy giant named Paul, he lived all by himself in a giant castle with only an annoying peacock for company." started Damian.
"Wait one second, I make you a rabbit and you turn me into a grumpy giant!" exclaimed Paul.
The kids burst into a fit of giggles, "May I try a story now?" asked Jack.
"Once there lived a big green dragon named Paul, he lived in a cave full of money," he started.
"I like this story," said Paul with a grin, "Instead of a grumpy giant I am a rich dragon."
Jack continued, "Then one day a stingy prince named Damian came and tried to steal his gold to buy candy and sweets with."
"Hey," said Damian, "Why am I the bad guy!"
The kids burst into another fit of giggles.
"This story time isn't exactly calming you kids down is it?" asked Paul.
"May I tell a story now?" asked Kate, smiling at Paul.
"Sure you can lass," said Paul, "Just make sure that it is a calm one," he said with a yawn.
He sat down in between Damian and Jack on the couch, they were all yawning a bit now.
"Once upon a time, there were three bears, A big funny uncle bear, a goofy fun cousin bear, and an annoying little brother bear...." she began.
Soon everyone but Kate was fast asleep, and that was what Paul's sister discovered when she got back home.
She saw Damian with his head resting on Paul's shoulder, with Jack cuddled up on his other side.
"Why are you still awake Kate?" she asked with a frown.
"Uncle Paul fed us ice cream and then we had silly story time," Kate said giggling.
"Well your Uncle Paul is going to get an earful from me when he gets up," said her mother.
"Maybe you could get him back another way," said Kate grinning mischievously as she whispered in her mothers ear.
Not that much later a picture was posted on twitter with a caption that read: A good story will put even the biggest and most tired 'Kids' to sleep no matter what.
When Paul woke up the next morning, he had a creak in his neck and pages full of comments on the picture.
He decided then and there to One, never take Damian along when he babysat ever again especially if he was on a sugar high, and Two, to never fall asleep on the job at his sisters ever again.
The End
Hope you all enjoy this!!
