*just so you all know, I WILL finish this story, I promise. So dont freak if i dont update for a while sometimes, i've been busy lately. ok so heres an update for you all!*
I awoke the next morning to the sun's rays streaming through my bedroom window. I'd slept like a rock all night. I kicked my blanket off, and plodded downstairs to the kitchen to get something to eat. I walked over to the fridge to get some orange juice, when I noticed a note taped to the fridge door. It was from my mom. The note said,'Kathy, I've gone to the shops with Damian's mum. Ring me if you need anything. Oh, and Damian called earlier and wanted to talk to you, but you were asleep, so you should give him a ring when you see this. xx Mum.' Under her note was two phone numbers, one was her's the other was Damian's.
I made myself some toast, drank some orange juice, then I finally realized what time it actually was. I glanced at the clock over the stove. It was three in the afternoon! I'd wasted alomst my whole day sleeping! I ran upstairs, took a quick shower, and decided what to wear. I pulled out my favourite pair of jeans, my white shirt with black lace running down the side, and to make my outfit look a bit more casual, I dug out my red Converse from the bottom of my suitcase. I put my hair up into a messy bun, I was too impatient to wait for it to dry. A little bit of peachy lipgloss and msacara completed my look. I frowned in the mirror for a second, boy was I ever pale!
By the time I had finished getting ready, it was 3:45pm. I heard the phone ring, and dashed downstairs. I picked up the recieiver just as it rang for the third time.
'Hello?' I said into the phone.
'Is that you, Kathy? I love you soo much!!" Someone made kissing noises into the phone. I heard someone shouting at the person on the phone. All I could hear was,"Not funny! Give me the phone!" Then I heard a different voice speak. A rich, low tone that had a thick, warm accent.
'Kathy? Sorry about that, that was Conor slagging me AGAIN! So, um, did you have any plans for today?'
I knew that voice instantly! It was Damian! My heart skipped a beat and my stomach had butterflies.
'Um, my mom left me a note that said she went to the shops with your mum.. No, I don't have any plans, really. Do you?'
'No, I-----' He was interrupted by Conor. I heard Conor say something that sounded like, 'Damian and Kathy sitting in a tree, now she's made him the happiest lad in Derry!'
'Just ignore him... So would it be ok if I came over to your house and maybe we could go for a walk or something?' asked Damian.
'Sure, that'd be great. I'd love to see this city, you know in the daylight without being ambushed..." I heard him laugh, and my stomach flip-flopped.
'Ok, I'll be there in about ten minutes then?'
'Sure, we're sorted then.' I said with a grin on my face.
'Bye.'
'Bye, Damian.'
I was putting away the breakfast dishes that I'd forgotten in my haste to get ready. Then, I heard a rap on the door. I opened the door, and there Damian was, wearing a light grey hoodie that was unzipped, a red plaid shirt, blue jeans that looked comfy, and his green Converse from last night. He ran his fingers through his black curly hair and grinned.
'So, ready to see the sights?' he asked.
'Sure, lead the way.' I grabbed my purple jacket off the coatrack, and walked out of the house and locked the door.
He lead me down the street, to a building that looked like a college or a university.
'This is Northwest College, where I just finished up a while ago.'
'Woah, you've already been through college, and I've just graduated high school! Smart cookie!'I teased him.
'Well, the Irish school system is different from America. It's summer, let's not talk about school.' he suggested.
'That's fine with me!'
We kept walking, Damian pointing out various places of interest until we came to a little shop.
'I'm parched. Are you thirsty at all?'
'No, I'm ok.' I said.
Damian bought a Coke for himself, and we sat on two chairs outside in the July sun. I was about to ask him something, when a brown haired, green eyed lad came up to Damian and started talking to him.
'So Damo, looks like you've a girl, then?' asked the young man.
Damian's face went a little flushed at his comment. As he was about to answer, his phone rang and Damian stood up, and bid the lad a good day. I followed suit and we walked about a block when Damian suddenly stopped in his tracks as his phone went off again. He dug it out of his pocket and answered.
'Hello? Emmett? What?? They're here?? At the house?? ALL OF THEM??? Alright, we'll be there soon.' He shoved his mobile back into his pocket.
'Who was that?? Who is 'they'?' I asked.
'Um, you'lll find out who 'they' are very shortly. There is something that I haven't told you, Kathy. I don't know how you'll take it...'
'What haven't you told me, Damian?'
'Ok, so this might sound a little crazy to you, but bear with me. So I've been a part of this singing group called Celtic Thunder since I was 14. We've had six albums so far, and have toured North America lots. And the 'they' I was talking about are the other lads in the group, Keith, Neil, George, Emmet, Paul, and Ryan. They're like family to me, like brothers. What do ya make of all that?'
'Wow, that sounds incredible! I didn't know you could sing, Damian!' I said, astounded at what I'd just heard.
'Would you like to hear a bit?' Damian grinned.
'Sure, I'd like that."
And then Damian began to sing, in such a rich baritone that I could hardly believe was possible. Damian belted out a song that sounded like Frank Sinatra. He sang about standing on a corner, and about wanting a girl for his own. I smiled through the whole thing, Damian sang with such passion that it made it impossible not to smile with him. When he'd finished, the people standing nearby clapped and whistled in appreciation.
'So, what do ya think?' he asked.
'You're just... just.... amazing!' I said, almost unable to find the right word to describe his voice.
'Thanks, glad ya like me voice! So we've to go to my house, the lads, my brother Emmett, and Conor are all there. Guess they'd this all planned out. Bet my mum and yours had a hand in it, no doubt.' he said in a teasing voice.
'That sounds like this afternoon will be an interesting one, then!'
We walked up and down a few streets, till we stopped in front of a nice looking, two storey house with a porch. Damian looked at me, then at the door, and sighed a little.
'If the lads, or Conor, or me brother slag on us, don't take it to heart, they just like having craic at my expense."
With that, we walked up the few steps to the door. Then, Damian grabbed my hand in his and gave it a reassuring squeeze. His eyes twinkled with mischief. He pushed open the door, and we stepped inside.
As soon as we had walked in the door, I noticed about eight people sitting on the couches and in chairs. Damian giuded me over to them, still holding my hand tightly. He introduced me to his CT 'brothers'. The blonde one with green eyes was Keith, the fatherly-looking man was George, the one with brown hair, eyes, and an eyebrow piercing was Neil. the kind looking one with brown hair and blue eyes was Emmet, and the one with black hair and blue eyes not unlike Damian's own, was Ryan. The one with dirty blonde hair and blue eyes was Paul. There was also a kindly looking blonde lady sitting in a chair. This was Sharon, CT's producer and 'mother hen'. Also there was Conor, and Damian's brother Emmett. The group fell silent as Damian introduced me to them all.
'Guys, Sharon, Emmett, this is Kathy. She's my.. er.. my..uh..'
The guys cut Damian off before he could finish explaining who I was.
'Ooooh, wee Damian's been taken with a lassie!' shouted Paul, who added in a swanky eyebrow move to emphasize his sentence.
'No more standin' on the corner for you then, eh Damo?' teased Keith.
'Aww, our little Damian's got a girl for himself'. said George.
'Good on ya lad!' added Neil.
'Well, guess you don't need me to teach you how to get the girls anymore!' hooted Ryan.
'Young love... Fi-lled with deeeep emotiooonnnn!' sang Emmet.
Then, Sharon piped up and got them to stop slagging Damian who'se face was red as a tomato by that point.
'Guys, I don't think Damian wants you all to scare away his new girl. Easy on the slagging, lads.' Sharon spoke in a voice that commanded respect and attention. All the CT lads stopped with their teasing, but of course, Conor and Damian's brother needed to add in their two cents as well.
'Damian is in loo-vvv-eee with Kathy! Kathy Mc Ginty!' slagged Conor.
Damian looked like he wanted to disappear. Conor walked over to the couch to sit down, and Damian tripped him a bit as he walked past. Conor went sprawling onto the floor.
'That's what you get for slagging, Conor!' teased Damian.
Suddenly from across the room Emmett yelled.
"Damm-iaa-nnn so is she your little girlfriend?' trilled Emmett.
'That's for me to know, and for you to find out!' retorted Damian.
The door flew open then, and in walked mine and Damian's mums!
I blushed, wondering what my mom would think when she saw us holding hands. But she was too busy nattering away to his mum to notice that our hands were intertwined. We made some small talk with everyone, then Damian's mum came over and asked to talk to me privately for a minute. I looked at Damian, he nodded, and I followed his mum into the dining room.
'Kathleen, I don't know if my son has told you yet, but he likes you as more than a friend. The way I saw him look at you in there, I haven't seen him look at any girl like that in a long time. I don't know how long you are planning on staying here in Ireland, but as long as you are, please give him a chance. That's all I ask.'
I sat there in stunned silence. I thought Damian had taken a fancy to me, but I thought it couldn't be really true. After all, someone like him seemed almost too good to be true. But since his mom was the one to put it all out there, I knew it was the complete truth.
'Yes, I am more than willing to give Damian a chance. I have feelings for him as well.' I admitted.
'Well, this seems to be working out nicely for the pair of you so far.'
And with our little chat over, we headed back into the living room. Damian got up from the couch, and walked over to my mom.
'We were going to order pizza for dinner, could Kathy and you stay and join us?'
I looked at my mom, praying she would say yes.
'Kathy can stay, if she'd like. But I've things to do for the fundraiser.'
Damian turned to me then.
'Do you want to stay for dinner, then?' he asked hopefully.
'Yes! That'd be great!' I said eagerly.
Everyone finally agreed on hawaiian and pepperoni pizza. When teh delivery guy came, I couldn't believe how much food there was! Eight pizzas??? Who would eat all that, I wondered.
The pizzas were passed around, and we ate on paper plates and drank Coke. Everyone was in a good mood. I had only managed to eat two slices, while Keith had downed a whole pepperoni pizza by himself, and he still looked hungry! The food was soon gone, but hey, boys eat a lot more than girls do. After we had put the plates and pizza boxes in the garbage, we all settled down to watch the footy game that was on. The match just happened to be Man U against Liverpool. Manchester was winning, much to Damian's delight. He was yelling encouragement to his team through the television, and he got so absorbed in the game that the rest of the lads had to remind him it was just a match on the tv. I thought it was cute how into the game he was, he even did Man U's chant! By the time the match was over, Manchester had won four-nil and it was 11:30pm.
It looked like the lads and Sharon were crashing at Damian's for the night. Sharon said goodnight to us all, then headed upstairs to the guest bedroom. Emmett went up to his room shortly after. Damian's mom got us some extra blankets and pillows, and Conor, Neil, Emmet, Keith, Ryan, Paul, and George all made themselves comfy on the couches and chairs that were in the room. I momentarily thought of what my mom would think of me crashing at the Mc Ginty's house. I asked Damian if it was ok for me to stay here. He asked his mom, and she rang my mom up and my mom said it wasn't a problem at all, since she knew the Mc Ginty's well. I yawned a little, and pulled my blanket over my shoulders. I was still sitting on the couch, leaning against Damian, my head on his shoulder. He put his arm around my shoulder, said a sleepy goodnight, and we all soon fell fast asleep.....
