I have written, re-written, and even re-re-written this, and now I submit for your approval:
The Epilogue!
I paced in the waiting room, doing just that, waiting. True this wasn't our first time, but I was nervous all the same.
"Dude, chill. You're acting like she's on life support!" said Neil. I turned to face the little man and his wife.
"Don't tell me you weren't nervous your first time!" I snapped at him.
"But that's it, Damo. It's not your first time." wisely pointed out George.
"I know. I'm still nervous." I mumbled
"Look Damo, it's not like she's getting a brain tumor removed. She's just having a baby." said Paul.
"And when was the last time you had a baby!" Both he and Dom just looked over at the play place for the children to gaze fondly at their little girl, Amanda. My little girl, Rose, ran over.
"Daddy, I'm tired." I smiled and picked her up.
"Now you have to stay calm, if your holding Rose." teased Keith.
"Fine! How are you sweetie?"
"Is Mommy here yet?" she asked.
"Not yet Rose, she's still getting the baby for us."
"Will she be done soon?"
"Hopefully."
"Daddy, how long have you known Mommy?" I looked back at the years we had spent together. Maybe it was the circumstances, the fact that we were in a hospital, the fact that my wife was giving birth, Rose was sitting in my lap, that triggered a special memory.
"Well doctor, how are things?" I asked.
"It's odd Mr. McGinty. Never before have I seen anything like it."
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing, that's it! There is nothing wrong with her thyroid, it's like she was never ill!"
"How is that possible?"
"I would call it a miracle sir, the hand of God."
Finally after what seemed like hours, the doctor came in.
"Mr. McGinty, your wife is going to be fine, and she has a surprise for you." I breathed a sigh of relief.
"You think you're relieved! What about her?" teased Ryan. Ignoring his comment I turned to the whole of Celtic Thunder.
"You guys wanna come?" I asked.
"We'll let you go first, you still need to know who your young on is." said Amy. Nodding I bore my little girl down the hall of the maternity wing, stopping at a door marked McGinty. The door was wide open so I entered.
"Mommy!" yelled Rose. She began to squirm so I set her down before I dropped her. There lay Sarah, worn out from the birthing process. In her arms there were two bundles.
"Uhh Sarah? Why are there two bundles instead of one?" I asked.
"Damian, meet your two sons."
"Two? Boys? Twins?"
"Yes silly! That's what they are called when they are born at the same time." I shut the door and went over to the bedside chair and sat down.
"Twins?"
"Yes. Believe me I would know. I was there."
"Well, what are we gonna name them?"
"Well the eldest, we could name David Glenn McGinty and the other, Damian Joseph McGinty III."
"After me and Da?"
"No after me and my Dad. Of course after you both!"
"So which one's which?" I asked picking up the one on the left
"You're holding David."
"How are we gonna tell the difference?" I asked, kinda panicked.
"David has a light blue I.D. tag and Damian has dark blue." Just then there was a knock on the door.
"Come in!" Sarah answered. In came the lads, their wives and their rambunctious children.
"Oh dear, I don't think we're allowed to have this many people here." said Sarah, concerned.
"That's alright! I was gonna take the kids to the playground." said Little Sarah. With that she rounded up all six of the children and led them outside.
"You want to go with them, Paul?" asked Ryan.
"After you, sir." Paul shot back.
"Well if y'all go, you won't get to meet the two newest members of the CT family."
"Family? Does that mean that I'm related to Keith?" wined Paul.
"Enough. Sarah's introducing us to her two wee ones." said George.
"Thank you George. Everyone, meet David and Damian."
"We already know Damian, we've know him since he was 14." said Neil.
"No! Not big Damian, little Damian, Damian the third. Don't worry, we'll call him Junior."
"Can we hold them?" asked Lauren. Nodding, Sarah passed Damian onto Carrie, who had approached the bed first.
"Aw such a cute mannie!" she cooed. I passed David onto Neil. Soon the babies had made the rounds and were safely placed into my and Sarah's arms. Just when Jr. had been placed into my arms he opened his eyes. This, of course, brought on a gale of 'Awww's from the woman folk. We kept talking until Sarah yawned right in the middle of her sentence.
"Are you tired, honey?" I asked.
"No, not at all. I just..." But what she just, we didn't know because she yawned quite loudly.
"You're tired, it's alright, we understand. We've all been there." said Carrie.
"Besides, it's nearly dinner time." said Sadie, eying her husband closely to judge his reaction.
"Oh yeah that's right!" said Keith. Lauren just rolled her eyes.
"In that case, Keith darling, why don't you go start up the car while I go get Luke and Kelsy." said Lauren.
"Good idea Lauren, Ryan, I'll go get Clare." said Amy.
"Neil, why don't you go get Danny while I start up the car." said Sadie slyly.
"Well in that case, Paul how about we both go get Amanda." said Dom.
"Oh! Well if someone would mind delivering Rose to us, it would be appreciated." I said
"Just tell Sarah that we will be both be waiting in the car." said George. With that the room emptied, with only little Sarah popping in to congratulate us and to give us Rose back. I took Rose to the cafeteria to get some dinner for us and then we took it up to the room. After dinner I took Rose over to the Harkin's since my parents were out of town with my sister and her husband. Soon I was by my wife's side. I watched her sleep. I looked over at our sons. They were hardly a day old and I was already proud of them. I yawned and unfolded the chair so I could sleep better. Tomorrow would be a new day. Everything would change save one thing, my love for Sarah. Only it would last forever.
