They drove through the night and when one of them would get to sleepy they would switch, letting somebody else drive. It was earlier the next morning when they got to the Bellflower. Carrie met them on the porch.
“Keith!” Carrie hugged him. “It’s so good to see you! Anna’ in the stable.” He grinned at her.
“Thanks Carrie! It’s good to see ya too.” Keith looked at everybody. “Wish me luck! I’m gonna need it!”
“Good luck, man.” The guys told him as they followed him inside the bed and breakfast. They waited in the lobby with Carrie while Keith went in search of Anna.
“So, you must be Keith’s friends?” She said, stepping up to shake each of the men’s hands as they introduced themselves.
When Carrie reached Ryan, she grinned widely. “You’re Ryan, the one who sings with Keith and who I talked with on the phone? Oh, I love your voice!” At her exclamation she blushed, making the other guys laugh including Ryan.
“Yes, that would be me. And thank you! It’s always nice to know my music is appreciated” Ryan leaned in and gave her a quick hug. Paul rolled his eyes at them but smiled.
“Well lads,” Carrie pulled out of his hug. “Lets head into the kitchen where I’ll give you fellas some of my famous chocolate chip cookies.”
“Aye, that sounds like a plan, Miss. Kavanagh.”
“Damian, please! Call me ’Carrie’.” She smiled up at him; though Carrie was tall, Damian was still a good few inches taller.
Carrie turned, motioning for the guys to follow her into her kitchen. They were each silent in their thoughts while eating, each one hoping their plan worked.
They stood in the kitchen when they heard the front door open and close. Carrie excused herself and went to see who had shown up.
“Hello. I’m Carrie. Can I offer you a room for the night?” She said, looking at the stranger who stood with no suitcases in hand.
“No. I’m looking for Anna.” The man showed Carrie is most charming smile.
“Oh well, she is-” Carrie stalled for an answer. She didn’t trust the man standing across from her with his fake smile.
Damian walked in, mouth full of cookies. “She’s out side in the stable.” His eyes got big at the look Carrie flashed him. “Uh, I mean, she might be down at the beach?” Damian looked down at the cookie in his hand, awkwardly.
“I’ll go look in the stable, if you would just be so kind as to direct me?” The stranger asked, looking from Carrie to Damian. Then nodded his thanks as Carrie unwillingly pointed down the hall to the back door. After the man had made it down the hall Carrie and Damian made there way back to the kitchen.
The two of them walked in on Paul sneaking more cookies while Ryan and Neil stood looking out the kitchen window. Carrie slapped away the cookie stealer’s hand.
“I think you should wait on dinner Paul.” She frowned at him, hiding a smile. Paul pouted but walked over to sit down at the small table.
Carrie saw Ryan and Neil squinting out the window.
“Is he holding what I think he is?” Neil whispered.
“Yes.” All to fast Ryan and Neil spun on Carrie.
“Do you have a gun or a baseball bat we can use?”
Carrie’s eye’s widened as she stuttered out an answer. “I keep a- a .22 in my closet.” She got up and showed them where it was quickly and handed the gun to them while asking what was wrong.
“Who was that man who came a few minutes ago? He is walking around back holding a gun.” As she showed them to the back door she told them she had never seen him before. “Carrie, grab your phone and call the police, everything is going to be fine.” She nodded and ran back to the kitchen to her phone.
Ryan and Neil snuck out the back and headed the way they had seen the stranger go.
~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~
Keith was nervous. Plain and simple. He had made his way up the path to the stable. Keith found the stable door cracked open. He looked around but didn’t see her out side and made his way to the door way then stopped. There she was, beautiful as ever. He smiled, not able to bring himself to speak and just waited for her to see him.
Anna turned to walk back to the house but was shocked, not able to move. He was standing there! The man she loved, who had been occupying her thoughts for the past week, 24/7. “Keith?” She whispered, in disbelief.
“Anna.” He saw her favoring her ankle and with just a few long strides was standing in front of her. All his practiced speeches he had gone over in his head were lost to him. Before she could say a word he started rambling.
“Listen Anna, Love, I heard what you said at the hospital…about not wanting to see me again. And I tried to stay away but was, lets say, unable to.” He thought about his experience the day before leading him here. He knew whether or not the lads had kidnapped him, he would be standing here anyway. “I’m sorry for what I did, it just hurt to know you had kept something so important from me. I know now it doesn’t matter and after all that we have been though
together, let me make it up to you, I promise too make it up too you.” He looked at her, silently, and when she started to speak he rushed on knowing he had to finish telling her what he came to say. “Anna, after all that we have said or not said and done. I want- no. I
need you to know that you are a part of me and I can’t let you go! This whole week, I couldn’t stand being kept away from you! I don’t want to be swept away, so far away from you because Anna… I- I love you……” Keith had never been more nervous then he was right then. He had just told Anna he loved her and she just stared in shock at him. “Anna?”
She seemed to pull herself out of shock. “Keith…Oh, Keith. I want to tell you
I’m sorry! It’s my fault. I should never have kept it from you and-”
Keith didn’t let her finish but took her by the shoulders, and kissed her. Her mouth was warm and sweet on his as he poured his love into the kiss. Keith was overjoyed when he felt her kiss him back giving just as much love as he. And he knew then Anna loved him back. All to soon he pulled back, breathing in an unsteady breath as he looked her in the eyes.
“I love you, Anna.” He whispered.
She smiled. “I love you, more then you know.” Lifting her arms up, she wrapped them around his neck as she entwined her fingers; curling his hair in her fingers. “Hold me now, Keith.” She felt him wrap his arms around her waist, lifting her up. Cherishing her.
