[glow=purple,2,300]“Lookin’ for someone?”
Sunday’s eyes widened in surprise as the owner of that familiar Dublin accent stepped out of the shadows. She couldn’t believe it. This had to be a dream, because there was no way that this was real…was there? “Paul?” She whispered.
Paul smiled warmly as he stepped closer to Sunday. He wrapped his arms around her in a warm embrace, absolutely loving the feeling of having Sunday in his arms once again.
“Paul, I have missed you so much.” Sunday whispered, not wanting to let go in fear that he was just disappear from her.
“I’ve missed you as well, Darling.” Paul replied, pulling back slightly to meet her gaze.
“But..why are you here?” Sunday asked, confusion clear in her eyes. “I mean, how?”
Paul grinned and shrugged. “Happy birthday, Love.”
“Y-you didn’t forget?”
“Oh Love, of course I didn’t forget. How on earth could I have forgotten your birthday?” Paul’s blue eyes were filled with concern. “I will never forget your birthday, Sunday.” He whispered, placing a hand on her cheek.
Sunday smiled. “You’re really here, aren’t you?”
Paul chuckled a bit and nodded. “I’m here, Darling. I promised we’d see each other soon, now didn’t I?”
Sunday nodded. “You did. But you didn’t have to do all of this, Paul. It’s too much, really.”
Paul placed a finger to her lips, shushing her. “It is not. And I wanted to do this, Sunday. It’s your birthday, after all, and you deserve it” Paul removed his finger from her lips, taking her hand in his and leading her toward the table. “Shall we?”
Sunday smiled and nodded. “We shall, Mr. Byrom.”
Paul pulled Sunday’s chair out for her and waited for her to sit down before taking his seat across from her. Sunday thanked him, her cheeks tinted a deep shade of red, and the two began to eat their dinner. A comfortable silence fell over them as they ate, enjoying the company of each other. When they were finished, Paul stood from his chair and offered his hand to Sunday.
“Dance with me?” He whispered, pulling her close to him.
Sunday giggled. “Paul, there’s no music, we’d look silly.”
Paul shook his head, his eyes almost pleading her. “Doesn’t matter. Dance with me?”
Sunday bit her lip and nodded, circling her arms around his neck loosely as his arms came to rest at her hips. Slowly they began to sway, Paul humming silently in her ear. Soon his humming turned into singing.
Sunday listened as Paul sang the words to a song she had never heard before. She smiled, allowing the soothing words to relax her. “Beautiful.” She whispered as the song ended, her green eyes meeting Paul’s blue ones.
Paul smiled, suddenly becoming a bit nervous. “I…I wrote it for you.” He whispered, not once breaking his gaze from hers.
“For me? Paul…I..”
Paul once again placed a finger on her lips, stopping her mid sentence. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small black velvet box. “Happy birthday, Darling.” He whispered, placing the box in her hand.
Sunday opened the box, her eyes widening once she saw what was inside. “Oh, Paul…it’s beautiful.” She gently lifted the white gold Skeleton Key necklace from the box. She smiled when Paul took the necklace and fastened it around her neck, placing a soft kiss on her cheek as he did so. She couldn’t believe Paul had done all of this for her. “I don’t deserve any of this.” She thought, smiling up at Paul’s sparkling eyes.
“As are you, Sunday.”
Sunday blushed, looking down at the box and spotting a small card. “What’s this?” She murmured as she lifted the card out of the box and unfolded it. Her eyes widened as a gasp escaped her lips. She scanned the words over and over again, not believing what was plainly written on the card.
Let me tell you that I love you…She looked up at Paul, and before she could even form the words in her mind, Paul’s lips were upon hers in a soft, but passion filled kiss. Before Sunday had a chance to return the kiss, Paul had pulled away, resting his forehead against hers and staring straight into her eyes.
“I love you.” He whispered.”
“Paul…I…” Sunday bit her lip. He loved her…He actually admitted that he loved her. And she loved him too, didn’t she?
Sunday looked into Paul’s eyes, seeing nothing but sincerity in them. She placed her hand on his cheek, bringing her lips to his once more, smiling as he returned the kiss. “I love you too, Paul.”
