Chapter 1
Mairead
I hate the rain so much. One reason is because there is nothing to do. Another is it reminds me of him. I don’t know why, it just did. Maybe because it was raining the day we met. Or, maybe because it was raining the day of our first date. Or, maybe because it was raining the day of our first kiss. But, I think the real reason the rain reminds me of him is because it was raining the day he left, the day my life was taken away from me. Who knows?
Anyway, so there I was, just sitting there in the Dublin Airport in Dublin, Ireland, waiting for my mother to pick me up. I have been sitting here for the past two hours. I hate that woman so much right now. I mean, who forgets to pick up their daughter from the airport? And to top it all off, I’m in a place that I barely even remember!!! But, that part, the part of me being here before is a story that is not for now.
So, back to this one. There I am, sitting there all alone on a bench in the airport, when these to people, men to be exact, came and sat down on either side of me. Too say I was scared was an understatement.
“Well, hello there lassie. May I ask why you are sitting all alone?” The older looking one with shaggy blond hair asked me with a smile on his face.
“I…um… uhhh…” I stuttered. He just laughed.
“Don’t worry lassie, we aren’t gonna bite. Well, Damian here might. But I can assure you I won’t.” He said with a laugh. Damian. The name sent chills all the way through my body. I haven’t heard that name since the day….
“Keith! Shut up! Don’t mind him miss. He’s a little bit off his rocker if ya know what I mean.” The guy Damian said. God, was his voice really deep!
“Oh, it’s alright. And, ummm… to answer your question Keith, I’m waiting for my mum to pick me up. But, I’m starting to think she forgot.” I said, laughing a little.
“Oh.” Was all Keith said. Then there was a silence.
“What’s your name?” Damian asked, a minute or so later.
“Mairead, but you can call me Mari.” I said, turning to him. The moment I got a full look at his face, my heart stopped. For I have seen those striking blue eyes before. They were the same blue eyes my ex-boyfriend Damian had.
He stared too, and I think, judging by his facial expression, that he recognized me too.
