I was watching my favorite Ballet and got an idea for a story. Enjoy!
Once upon a time there lived a beautiful princess in an magnificent castle. The princess’s name was Pearlypat, but everyone called her Pearl. She was the most beautiful princess in the land. Unfortunately she was also the most spoiled girl in the land. Her parents gave Pearl what ever she wanted. Her father, King Claudian, was wise when it came to affairs of state but foolish when it came to everything else. Her mother, Queen Elsa, was lazy and spent most of her days sleeping or eating. On this particular day the entire castle was in a all-mighty rush, for it was the King’s birthday. Pearl was deciding what dress she should wear, the King was sitting at the table entertaining his guests, and the queen was in the kitchen, hard at work for once. You see the queen was famous for her blue cheese cake, which was the king’s favorite. She worked long and hard until it was finished. Just as she was about to summon some servants to help her take it up to the king the mouse queen appeared “Sister queen, give me some cheese to feed my people!” she croaked. “Dear sister I dare not! Dost thou not know for whom this cake is for?” “Aye sister I do. But spare me a small chunk at least for my son.” The queen noticed a mouse slowly crawling up towards the table. “Dear mouse sister, dost thou not know the punishment that the king wouldst pronounce upon mine head? I dare not give you even the crumbs!” “Fine! If thou won't give me even a crumb, then I shalt take it by force!” Suddenly the kitchen was swarmed with mice of all shapes and sizes. The queen watched in horror as the cake that she had worked so hard for disappeared.
Yes this is part of the Nutcracker, it's the prologe which explains how the Nutcracker got to be. It's not featured in many ballets unfortunatly.

Yes I know about the sausage but I'm going off "The Nutcracker Prince" movie it featured a cake made of blue cheese. Sounds appatising, no? But I digress. On with the story!
Meanwhile, the king was growing impatient. “I WANT MY CAKE!” he yelled to the servants, they wisely decided to check in on the queen. They found her in the kitchen, crying her heart out. What was left of the cake was truly disgusting. “My lady the king doth requests his cake.” The unhappy queen just looked at the mess on the table. The servants quickly took it away. The queen composed herself and quickly followed the servants. When the cake was brought in the guests politely applauded, but they were all repulsed by the horrid condition that the cake was in. “Ugh! That is the ugliest thing that I have ever seen! I won’t eat it!” Screeched Pearl Just then the queen came in. “Oh my dear royal husband, forgive me I beg you. It was all the mouse queen’s fault!”
Well you can be sure that the king forgave his wife, he also set his court magician to capture the mouse queen. The court magician/clock maker’s name was Elias Christian Drosselmeyer. He worked with his nephew Damian, who has lived with his uncle since his parents died when he was very young. Damian was 18 years old, and all the lady's in the castle were awed by his looks, for he was a handsome lad. His short brown hair was always an unruly mess, no matter what he did. The most striking thing about him however, were his eyes. They were blue. Not just any blue though, no, they were bright blue, and I mean BRIGHT. It was the kind of blue that everyone wanted but only he had. He also sang. You could always tell when he was coming for he sang everywhere he went. In fact he was so good that often the princess would request that he sing for her. So Drosselmeyer and Damian began work on a new invention, they called it the “mouse trap” Unfortunately no one in the kingdom thought that it would ever catch on. Well that changed when the both of them managed to catch all the mice in the kingdom. Well, save the Mouse Queen and her only son. You can bet that she was beyond mad.

One night she and her son crept into Pearl’s bed-chamber. Slowly they climbed up to her bed. Once up the queen uttered a dark curse. “Eyes of Emeralds be as stone. Teeth of pearl be as bone. Ugly as the night is long. Never shall man undo this wrong!” With that she bit Pearl’s toe. Pearl woke up screaming, but it was too late. She had already transformed. Instead of the vision of beauty that she was used to she was the ugliest creature alive. When this was discovered the King set Drosselmeyer and Damian to find the cure. It took them the best part of the year for them to find it. “All the princess doth needs is to eat the crackatooth nut. However, the crackatooth nut doth be the hardest nut in the world. The person who shalt crack the nut must be young man who has never worn boots, he must also do it with his eyes closed. Once he has given the nut to the princess he must step back seven paces without stumbling.” “Is that all? Well, let it be known that whomever shalt crack this nut shalt win mine daughters hand and shalt be king o'er the land. Only nobility need apply.” Laughed the King. Noblemen from around the land began lining up for the chance to crack the nut. Try as they might none could crack the nut. Eventually no one was left. Pearl began to cry, again. Damian felt concern for her. Though she was a spoiled brat there was a tiny flame of kindness. Damian had seen it when she helped one of the maids up after she had twisted her ankle. He decided it was his turn to negotiate with the nut. He put in in between his teeth and pressed down hard. To his astonishment it cracked. Quickly extracting the meat of the nut he closed his eyes and presented the nut to Pearl. He then started on his backwards path. One. Two. Three. Drosselmeyer thought he spotted something. Four. It was the mouse queen. Five. Damian was about to walk right up to her. Six. Drosselmeyer saw her lips moving, putting a spell of Damian. Seven. The Princess turned back into her lovely self. Damian stepped on the Mouse Queen, killing her. Damian was turned into an ugly nutcracker. In the ensuing chaos Drosselmeyer scooped up Damian and fled the kingdom.

Years passed and Drosselmeyer found the cure for his nephew. All he had to do to become human again was to destroy the mouse king and win the hand of a fair maiden. Fortunately for the both of them Drosselmeyer had been named godfather by a family that he had known for a long time. They had two children. The youngest was a boy called Fritz. He was a trouble maker and loved to torment his older sister, whom he loved very much. His sister was a lovely young lady named Sarah. She was quiet and more reserved than her brother. She dreamed of being a singer one day. Every year Sarah and Fritz’s parents invited Drosselmeyer to their Christmas party. This year Sarah had just turned 18, her birthday being a few days before Christmas. Drosselmeyer decided that it was time.
The party was lively and Sarah was having a good time. She enjoyed spending time with her mysterious Uncle Drosselmeyer. “Sarah, my dear I have a special gift for you.” He handed her a nutcracker doll. “Thank you Uncle Drosselmeyer, he’s wonderful!” A gentle smile lit up her face. “Let me see, let me see!” yelled Fritz. “Just be careful with him” said Sarah. “Wow he is ugly!” “Fritz be nice.” “Well he is!” “He may not be the prettiest doll in the world, but I can tell that he has a heart of gold.” “Whatever, Sarah.” Fritz began throwing the Nutcracker up in the air. “Fritz be careful with that!” “I will Uncle Drosselmeyer.” Fritz began to throw the Nutcracker even higher. “Fritz stop!” yelled Sarah, but it was too late. The Nutcracker slipped form Fritz’s hands and crashed to the floor. Everyone paused. “Sarah I’m so sorry! It just slipped!” Sarah began to cry. She loved the Nutcracker, there was something magical about him. Drosselmeyer went to inspect the damage. It wasn’t to bad. The head had popped off. He repaired it and tied his hanky around it’s neck. “Here Sarah, good as new. Don’t cry now.” Slowly the tears stop falling . “Thank you Uncle Drosselmeyer.” she smiled sadly. “Sarah I’m so sorry. Will you forgive me?” asked Fritz. He hated seeing his sister cry. “Of course I forgive you Fritz, it was an accident.” The party wound down and eventually everyone went home. Sarah put the Nutcracker in the doll house with the others. She had hardly put him down during the party.

“It’s odd” she said to herself as she prepared for bed “But he seems almost human.” Sarah tried to get some sleep, but she just couldn’t. She had to go see her Nutcracker again. She lit the candle by her bed and went downstairs. She went over to the doll house. There he was. In the candle light he looked almost handsome. Sarah felt her eyes getting heavy. The clock struck midnight. Sarah’s eyes flew open. How long had she been asleep? She got up and headed for her room. Then she heard a noise. She turned. Standing by the doll house was Uncle Drosselmeyer. Sarah gasped. “What are you doing here? I thought you left.” He did not answer. “Uncle Drosselmeyer, what’s going on? Is everything alright?” He began pacing around the room. “Sarah, this night is going to test your courage. You will be scared to death.” With those words everything around her began to grow. “Uncle Drosselmeyer, what’s going on? Why is everything growing?” “We’re shrinking, love. Don’t be afraid. Find your courage. It’s there in you.” With those words he vanished. “Uncle Drosselmeyer! Where are you? I don’t understand!” Sarah began to cry “Find your courage, It’s there in you.” Sarah took a deep breath to steady herself. She knew where she was. There was her doll house and over there was Fritz’s toy fort with all his toy soldiers. She heard a scurrying noise off to her left. She turned. It was a mouse. She screamed. The toy soldiers heard her cry and sprung into action. One blew a warning on his trumpet. The Nutcracker sprung to life and ran towards the fort. “Men, we are being attacked by the mouse army. We must defend ourselves!’ “Hail Nutcracker! Hail Nutcracker!” shouted the army. “My name isn’t Nutcracker, It’s Damian!” He said confused. “Whatever your name is, you’re leading us!” Damian drew his sword “Men let’s go!” The place was being over run with mice. “Wait! What about the girl?” asked one of the soldiers “Girl?” said Damian, already in fierce combat with one of the mice. He quickly slew the mouse and went over to protect her. Sarah, for her part, was trying to be brave. She was fighting, or at least trying to, a mouse who was laughing at her. With one fluid motion Damian dispatched the mouse. “Are you alright miss?” “Uh yeah, I think so.” “Don’t worry, I’ll protect you.” “Thank you, Damian?” “Yes. And you are?” “I’m Sarah.” “Good to meet you.” “You too.” Somehow she felt safer with Damian around. Damian fought bravely dispatching many mice. Suddenly they all retreated. “Have we won then?” asked Sarah “I don’t know.”

Suddenly out of the ground rose the biggest mouse Sarah had ever seen. Damian recognised the crown that was on his head. It was the son of the Mouse Queen, whom he had accidentally killed all those years ago, and by the looks of it he wanted revenge. “Damian!” shouted the Mouse “What do you want?” “You must answer for your crimes. You killed my mother.” “First, it was an accident, she moved right into my path. I didn’t know she was there. Second, she turned me into a Nutcracker.” “Damian, accident or no, you killed her, and now I, the Mouse King, will kill you.” Damian turned to Sarah “You may not want to see this. He won’t stop until he either kills me, or I kill him.” Sarah nodded. Damian left her and approached the Mouse King. “Ready to die, Damian?” “Nope, I’ve still got a life to live. I’m only 18 you know.” They began to fight. Sarah didn’t want to watch, but she couldn’t help herself. Damian may not be the most handsome man in the world, but he was kind and brave. Sarah couldn’t help but admire the way he moved. Poetry in motion. Damian was clearly very skilled in sword fighting, but he was also very tired from fighting all the mice beforehand. Damian was starting to falter. He was missing his target. Somehow the Mouse King got him down on his knees. Sarah was paralyzed with fear. She wanted to do something, but what? “Find your courage. It’s there in you.” Sarah removed her house slipper. “Hey! Ugly! Over here!” Sarah began to run over to the Mouse King. He looked up. With all of her strength she threw the slipper at his head. It hit him square in the forehead. He backed up. With one swift motion, Damian twirled around and plunged his sword home. The Mouse King faltered. His army ran behind him not a moment to soon. He fell backwards into their arms. Slowly they carried their fallen King home. Sarah kept running until she was by Damian’s side. He had collapsed. “Damian, No.” She tried to wake him, but to no avail. “No, no, this can’t be happening.” She ran away from him. It was all to much.

Sarah ran to a corner. She couldn’t bear it. Damian was dead! Whatever he looked like, he was still very sweet. She might even admit to having feelings for him. Behind her she heard a low mone. No! It couldn’t be! She turned around. Damian had propped himself up. He was facing away from her, but she could tell that their was a change. His hat was off and in it’s place was a shock of unruly brown hair. It was almost spiky. Sarah timidly made her way over to him. “Damian?” “Sarah? Are you alright?” “I’m fine. How about you.” “Look at me. Do I seem fine to you?” He finally turned to look at her. She was shocked at what she saw. No longer was he ugly. In fact she had to say that he was now one of the most handsome man that she had ever seen. “You look fine to me. Are you hurt?” Damian shook his head no. Sarah helped him to stand. There stood Drosselmeyer. “Uncle Drosselmeyer?” they both said at once. He smiled. “Sarah, this is my nephew, Damian. Damian, this is my godchild, Sarah. I’ve come to take you someplace amazing.” With those words the world around them faded. Drosselmeyer again vanished. “Where do you think we are going?” asked Damian. “I have no idea.” “So um, what are you into?” Sarah giggled “Music mostly. I love to sing” “I like to sing too.” “I bet you’re really good.” “Well I like to think I am. People often called upon me to sing for special occasions. But what about you? Are you any good?” “Not really. I’ve always dreamed of singing but I don’t think that it is to be so.” “Hey, you are the only one standing in the way of your dream.” Sarah smiled at his encouragement and the scene around them began to come into focus. Tall pine trees covered in snow surrounded them. They were in some kind of forest. Damian took Sarah’s hand. “By the way, thank you for saving me back there.” “Damian I had to. I didn’t want you to die. I...I care for you too much.” There she had said it. “Sarah. I. Thank you. I think your beautiful.” Damian was blushing. Sarah spotted something in the trees. “Look a firefly!” It came closer. “That’s no firefly. That’s a fairy!” Sarah just shot him a sarcastic look. “No look!” It landed on Damian’s outstretched hand. Sarah peered at the small figure. Sure enough there was live snow fairy in his hand. “It’s beautiful. Look at it’s wings.” Sarah said. Suddenly they were surrounded by tiny snow fairies. They all began to dance. The snow began to fall. The faster the fairies danced the faster the snow fell. Sarah began to spin in the falling snow. Damian smiled when he saw how childish she was acting. He began to twirl as well. Laughter bubbled from deep within Sarah’s soul. Damian couldn’t remember the last time he had had so much fun. He had always been at Pearl’s beck and call. But that was the past, this was now. He stopped spinning lest he get too dizzy. He decided that it was time to make a snow angel. He dropped to the ground letting the soft snow cushion his fall. Sarah did not know that Damian had laid down on the snow. That is, until she tripped over him. “Damian! Why didn’t you warn me? Are you alright?” she said hastily getting up “I’m fine Sarah. Don’t worry about me.” “Here let me help you up.” Sarah extended her hand towards Damian. He took it. Then with a devilish gleam in his eyes, he yanked her down to the ground with him. She landed halfway on to of him. The devilish glean was gone, only to be replaced by a loving glow. Sarah caught her breath. Damian leaned in and gently kissed her lips. Sarah rolled off slightly surprised. Damian sat up. “Sarah? I’m so sorry.” “Don’t be. It’s not your fault.” “But then...” She silenced him with her finger pressed firmly to his lips. “I was just surprised. Caught off guard.” Sarah kissed him tenderly on the lips. Blushing slightly Damian scrambled to his feet and helped Sarah up, holding her a little tighter, a little longer. Drosselmeyer appeared out of the mist that was quickly forming. Behind him was a magnificent sleigh being driven by what appeared to be an angel. Damian helped her up and swung up next to her. “We have an appointment with her highness, the sugarplum fairy. This sleigh will take you there.” again he disappeared. “He’s quite good at that.” giggled Sarah. Damian just smiled and put his arm around her shoulders. At their feet lay a fur mantle. After a while Sarah was starting to get cold, she reached down and pulled the mantle up. Damian saw her struggling to wrap the mantle around the both of them. He leaned over and helped her pull it up. Snuggling under the warm mantle they soon fell asleep.

When they woke up the sleigh was drawing near to a cave. Mysterious lights were floating around. “What is that?” whispered Sarah “I don’t know.” Damian whispered back “Tis the angel cave. Mine sisters and I doth live there.” The angel spoke silently, reverently. “It’s beautiful.” whispered Sarah “Aye, tis a magnificent place. Their Majesties palace doth right up ahead.” The sleigh coasted smoothly to a stop. Damian quickly swung down and helped Sarah out of the sleigh. There were four heralds at the gate. Damian and Sarah nervously made their way towards them. “Sarah and Damian, we’ve been expecting you.” said one of the heralds. They escorted them in. “Uncle Drosselmeyer?” whispered Damian. “Who else?” replied Sarah
Inside Drosselmeyer was announcing Sarah and Damian’s eminent arrival. “Finally, your Majesties, the spell has been broken. I present them to you now.” The gates opened and there stood Damian and Sarah, hands tightly clasped. The looked beyond scared. When they spotted Drosselmeyer they quickly ran over to him “Sarah, Damian, I’d like for you to meet the Sugar Plum Fairy and her husband.” Sarah couldn’t believe her eyes! They were both dressed in a pale pink. In fact it was so pale that it looked almost white. In the Fairy’s hair were millions of tiny silver beads. The same type of beads were strewn all over her dress and her husband’s outfit. “Welcome, Sarah, Damian. You are welcome in our home.” Sarah curtsied like a good girl and Damian bowed. “Damian, tell us. How did you break that fearful spell that was upon you.” Damian smiled and began to tell the story.

No, Sorry. Damo's the only one in this.
“As you may well remember, Highness's, I was indeed a Nutcracker. One night I awoke to the sound of the trumpet calling out a warning. It was the mouse army come to destroy me! So I rallied the troops and headed out for battle. Sarah was there too. I went to defend her. Suddenly the army retreated and then I saw my foe, The Mouse King. He had come for revenge. We began fighting, but I was tired. I began missing. Then he had me on my knees, but then Sarah threw her slipper at him causing him to back up a step. I then plunged my sword home! And uh.. then Sarah and I were saved. The End.” Damian made a hasty retreat to Sarah’s side. “You have gone through a terrible ordeal. Let us show you our gratitude.” Said the Prince. With that two small pageboys entered bearing a cushion each. The prince went over to Damian and presented him with a medal of valor. Smiling Damian bowed once again. The beautiful fairy presented Sarah with a necklace. The pendent was a circle of crystal, and down at the bottom was a single diamond. “Thank you milady.” “The diamond represents courage. You found your courage, now never let it leave you.” Sarah curtsied once more. “Now let the festivities commence!” cried the fairy.
The first to come out were the Spanish Chocolate. Dressed in brown they whirled around and stamped their feet to the beat. Next was Arabian Coffee. They moved slowly, sinuously, gracefully. The lace on their outfits floated like foam. After they were done Sarah wondered who would be next. Her question was soon answered, for tumbling head over heels came the Chinese Tea. Grinning they performed feats of acrobatics that Sarah and Damian had never even seen before. Soon they disappeared like the other performers before them. Just before Sarah could even start to miss them who should come in but Russian Peppermints! They lept about gaily sending slivers of energy into the fragrant air. Unlike the other performers, they invited Sarah and Damian to join in with them. Well, they very well couldn’t say no, now could they? When it was all over Sarah and Damian were well out of breath and laughing so hard. Next came Shepard's Pie. The man was playing the reed pipe and his sweetheart was dancing. Then the Shepard got a wicked idea. He donned a wolf mask and began to chase his sweetheart. She was so scared. When he finally removed the mask to reveal himself to her, he stole a kiss, which he had been trying to do the entire time. She forgave him. Next was the gingerbread family. Roley-Polly Mrs. Gingerbread came trundling out in a huge hoop skirt. Next thing Sarah knew, a whole gaggle of children burst out from her skirt and began to dance. Before long, Mrs.Gingerbread decided that it was time for her children to go home. She lined them up and sent them off in groups. Unfortunately one decided that she didn’t want to go home. She kept running away. Eventually Mrs. Gingerbread managed to shoo the child home. “And that, Sarah is what you call a Gingerbrat.” whispered Damian. Sarah giggled. Next came the candied flowers. At the end of their dance they arranged themselves in a pretty posy. Finally the Sugar Plum Fairy and her prince danced. Once it was all over, all the performers came back and bowed one last time. “Damian, I’ve had the most enjoyable time with you. I never want it to end. I love you.” “Sarah I love you too, but all good things must come to an end.” Was it her imagination or was Damian growing fuzzy around the edges? “But will I ever see you again?” “In time love, in time.” “When is that?” “In time.” “Damian, you just repeated yourself. When?” “Sarah, I love you.” “Damian.” “I love you.” “Damian?” She couldn’t hear any words. She only saw his lips moving, forming those same three words. I love you. She began to cry. It was all fading all so fast. It was all dark.

Sarah woke with a start. Where was she? In a panic she sat bolt upright. Her eyes focused on her room. She was in her bed. Was it all a dream? No! Last night was perfect. He was perfect. Damian. A million thoughts and questions raced through her head. She had to know the truth. She went down for breakfast. She tried her best to be cheery, but she was so confused. Even her parents noticed a difference. After breakfast she excused herself and went outside, claiming that she was going for a walk. Once on main street and headed towards Uncle Drosselmeyer’s clock store. She pushed open the door without even bothering to knock. There stood Uncle Drosselmeyer, hard at work on a broken coo-coo clock. “Why, Sarah what a wonderful surprise. Well please take a seat.” Sarah sat down on one of his stools. “Uncle Drosselmeyer, do you have a nephew? What’s his name? Please, I’m so confused. Was there really a battle in my family’s parlor? Did you really shrink me? Did we really go see a fairy? Did...” “Enough, enough! My ears are spinning.” laughed Drosselmeyer. Suddenly there was a crash from the back room. “Oh dear, I better go check on that.” said Drosselmeyer. He got up and went towards the source of the sound. Sarah followed. Apparently someone had dropped a tool kit. Hammers and mallets and such contraptions to fix clocks lay strewn all over the floor. Someone was picking them up. Once he was done, he straightened up.

Sarah was running even before she was aware of it. He saw her running. She threw herself at him, overjoyed to see him again. He tenderly placed a kiss on her cheek. She was crying. So was he. He held her close. She never wanted him to let her go. She felt safe in his arms. Slowly he let her go. “Sarah. I missed you.” “Damian, I missed you too.” “I love you.” “I love you too.” They then sealed their love with a kiss
