[This is a story based off of 'Ride On.' I just did it for fun. Not one of my better ones. Sorry!]
The buzz at the stable wasn't about the new stallion that would be arriving that day, but rather about the new woman that would be riding him. The horse was said to be a real beast; standing about 16.1 hands, or maybe 16.2. The height wasn't the only thing said to make him a beast. His eyes were not a normal hazel, but rather a deep green, ones so wild that they were scary. The stallion's color was heard to be black, with not a white marking on him, a rarity in these parts. But, as stated earlier, it wasn't the horse that got the most buzz; it was the rider.
Now she was something. Tall, thin, but had curves, long black hair that refused to stay straight. And those eyes. They were the same color as her horse's, and just as wild. She was someone all the guys stared at, and the girls envied...
The alarm clock sounded, causing the young man who had been sleeping to jerk awake. He slapped a hand down on the button, stopping the alarm. He blinked, staring at the time. 4:30. He groaned, throwing the covers back and putting on his slippers. The man then realized something as he made his way to the kitchen to make breakfast. Today was the day the new stallion and owner would arrive at the stable. He had heard interesting things about both of them.
The Young man was named Ryan, and at the age of 31, he was one of the older people at the stable. Still, he was able to ride and keep up with the youngest and best riders. Ryan stopped to look at himself in the mirror in the hallway. He was still the same man he was when he went to bed; short, black hair that was normally spiked, and pale blue eyes that would light up a room. He had a few wrinkles, but that didn't bother him. It was all a part of the aging process. Once finished in the mirror, he headed to the kitchen to make breakfast.
As he sat eating a bowl of cereal, Ryan couldn't help but think about his life so far. Sure, he was a famous equestrian and a singer, but he had nobody to share his success with. He had no wife or girlfriend, and no children to be a father to. That thought saddened him, but Ryan decided to not burn that bridge before he came to it.
After clearing the dishes, Ryan got ready to head to the stable and meet the new horse and rider. He threw on a pair of black riding pants, black t-shirt and black riding boots. As per usual, black was Ryan's color of choice. It had earned him the name of “Dark Destroyer.”
---------------------------------------------------
Once at the stable, Ryan sat in the stall with his stallion, Desperado, petting him and killing time before the newcomers showed up. After about half an hour, Ryan heard the sound of crunching gravel, indicating someone was there. He noticed a horse trailer, and he knew it was the new horse. He walked up to the driver's side, wanting to speak to the driver. As she stepped out, Ryan's heart skipped a beat.
She was a beauty. Long black hair that fell in curls around her pale, round face. Her eyes were a deep green, and were fairly wild looking. She was tall, nearly 5' 11, and thin. Yet, she did have good curves. Ryan offered a smile, extending his hand. “Hello. I'm Ryan Kelly. I take it you're here to bring in the new stallion, right? And your name is...?” he asked, feeling his cheeks get warm.
“Hi Ryan. I'm Michelle Green. Pleased to meet you. I am here to bring in the new stallion, er, Diablo. Do you know where I can unload him?” she asked, going to unload the trailer as Ryan directed her and the horse to the new stall. When she flicked the light on to put Diablo's blanket on, Ryan's eyes lit up. He had never seen such a horse.
This stallion was black all over, with no white markings, and stood at least 16.1 hands high, possibly 16.2 hands high. He was a monster. But his eyes were what captured Ryan. They were as green as Michelle's, and just as wild. Ryan was not scared, but was very surprised at the stallion's appearence.
After Diablo was settled in, Ryan took Michelle into the office to finalize everything, as he was a manager of the stable. Once the paperwork was finished, Ryan and Michelle got to talking, and found they shared a lot of interests. Ryan then asked Michelle if she wanted to put Diablo through his paces in the arena, showing Ryan what he was capable of. Michelle agreed, and went to tack up her horse while Ryan went into the arena to wait.
----------------------------------------------------
Ryan stood in the middle of the arena about an hour later, mesmorized. Michelle was an amazing rider. She controlled the stallion with ease, her hands very light on the horse's mouth. It was like watching a fine dance, one that took years to perfect. Ryan truly thought Diablo was the finest horse he had ever seen. As Michelle slowed to a stop, Ryan found himself wishing it would continue. “Ride on, Michelle! You're doing great! Keep going!” he said, watching her giggle as Diablo broke into a canter.
Once Michelle had finished, Ryan followed her into Diablo's stall, watching her remove his tack. As they got talking, Ryan learned she still had three days until she was moving into her new apartment and had no place to stay. He decided to ask her if she wanted to stay with him, even if it meant they'd have to share a bed. Michelle accepted, and Ryan smiled, anxious to get home. Yet, he did not think of it as anything romantic. I could never go with you, no matter how I wanted to... he thought, getting into his car with Michelle.
----------------------------------------------------
The next morning, Ryan woke up, stretching his arms over to Michelle's side of the bed. He felt nothing. His eyes shot open, and he saw that she was nowhere to be found. He even thought for a brief moment that it was a dream. Then, he remembered Diablo. It wasn't a dream, but the reality of that was what hurt Ryan the most. He had his chest ripped open by this woman, and he doubted she cared.
Ryan got dressed, heading to the stable. He went by Diablo's stall, stopping when something caught his eye. Diablo was not there. He wasn't in the field. He wasn't anywhere. When Ryan asked the owner of the stable, she explained that Michelle had left early in the morning, not giving a reason. He was crushed when he heard this, but decided to move on with life.
Once back at home, Ryan found himself thinking about Michelle. He could not get the woman off of his mind. Whenever he felt like this, Ryan would take out a piece of paper and a pen, and write a song. Now, he had the perfect song, and started to write.
Once Ryan had finished his song, he felt better. Facing the window, Ryan smiled. “Tomorrow will be a better day. I'm almost sure of it,” he said, sighing deeply. Even though she was gone, Michelle would always have a place in his heart. Forever.
I Could Never Go With You

Sure you ride the finest horse I've ever seen
Standing 16' one or two, with eyes wild and green
You ride the horse so well, hands light to the touch
I could never go with you no matter how I wanted to
Ride on, see you,
I could never go with you no matter how I wanted to
Ride on, see you, I could never go with you no matter how I wanted to
When you ride into the night, without a trace behind
Run you claw along my gut, one last time
I turn to face an empty space, where you used to lie
I look for the spark that lights the night
Through a teardrop in your eye
Ride on, see you, I could never go with you no matter how I wanted to
Ride on, see you, I could never go with you no matter how I wanted to
Ride on, see you, I could never go with you no matter how I wanted to
Ride on, see you, I could never go with you no
matter how I wanted to
I could never go with you no matter how I wanted to
I could never go with you no matter how I wanted to
