Hi again everyone!!! This is a bridge off of my first story, Beautifully Broken. This is only my second story, but I do accept any constructive criticism. You guys are the absolute perfect crowd of readers! Well, I do hope you enjoy it!!! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- “Another rainy day, as if today wasn’t troubling enough,” Nikki Collins sighed as she pushed herself on the wooden front porch swing out in the cold yet gentle rain. Heavy, swollen drops of water danced and splashed all around her, as if the rain was trying to gloat about ruining her day even more. Nikki wasn’t depressed, and she wasn’t happy either, which wasn’t hard for her to deal with since she wasn’t a totally emotional girl. Graduate college had ended for Nikki a year ago, scoring her a fast-track dream job as the supervising fashion designer for the men’s department of the world-renowned clothing retailer, MMXI, in Manhattan, New York. Nikki was living alone, though her boyfriend had always been begging her to move in with him, but she would never do such a thing unless the circumstances called for it. She had moral standards she wouldn’t easily let down for anyone. Actually, her boyfriend, Cole Richardson, was one of her problems lately. She knew for a fact that he was being unfaithful to her. She already saw the text messages on his cell phone and heard the voicemails left on HER answering machine, all addressed to Cole from a girl named Ella White. Nikki tried her absolute hardest to shrug it off and break up with him when she found a moment to do it properly. She wasn’t one to end any relationship over text or phone; it just didn’t seem appropriate. She’d known about Cole’s fling for a month and a half, but work had been keeping her so busy lately so she rarely had time for anything else, including breaking up with Cole. In a way though, she was happy she had a legitimate excuse to stay away from the heartbreaking jerk. It made her mind and heart sick with rage every time she merely thought about his name. She enjoyed designing fashion; it was her very soul’s passion. Every other day, she was either approving designs or sketching them out herself, which was quite harder than it seemed, but it kept her busy and, for the most part, averagely happy. Still, she couldn’t help but wonder if there was more out there for her besides getting up, designing, and coming home once again. Recently she was sketching different designs for a male vocalist group, Celtic Thunder. She was going to meet one of the guys tomorrow for lunch so they could discuss her designs and whether or not they were suitable enough. She pondered what it was like to live in Ireland, which is where her Celtic clients lived. Life outside the city….it sounded like a dream to Nikki for some odd reason. She was confused. Was her passion REALLY designing fashions every single day in a plain and stressful, strictly business manner? The strictly business part of her job was taking away the joy out of fashion designing, and that really did aggravate Nikki, because mainly all the fashion jobs in NYC were “strictly business.” Honestly, Nikki hated clustered cities with a passion. She was, without a doubt, more of a free-spirited country girl who was ready to fly away into her fantasyland at any given moment. Since she moved to New York, her carefree spirit was restricted by the limitations of work life and personal issues. Nikki’s heart sighed, dreaming of romance and the open air. She was getting up off her front porch swing to head inside, but she stopped in her tracks when she saw an incredibly handsome man, dark-haired with deeply darkened, yet extremely alluring eyes, running across the sidewalk located in front of her gleaming country-styled home. He paused for a moment when he saw Nikki standing on the porch, his face seeming slightly distressed. Nikki stood stiffly and quietly with widened eyes when she saw the mysterious man hurriedly made his way towards her. “Hello, miss!” The gorgeous man spoke with a thick yet understandable Irish accent. The poor man was getting beaten to death by the lashing raindrops. “I know this may seem a bit awkward, but I’m need of assistance. May I?” He looked at Nikki and pointed to her porch. Nikki suddenly snapped out of her trance. “Of course! You’re in dire need of some shelter. No one should be left outside in this weather.” He smiled widely with gratitude. Nikki admired how glistening and warm this stranger’s smile appeared. Nikki motioned for him to take a seat on the porch swing. “I’m terribly sorry,” He looked at her apologetically with sincere eyes, “I should introduce myself. My name is Ryan Kelly.” Ryan held out his hand to Nikki with a charming grin on his face. Nikki shook his hand cordially, returning the smile. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Ryan.” “That was an understatement,” Nikki thought to herself, “it’s certainly MORE than a pleasure.” “My name is Nikki Collins.” Ryan looked at her in disbelief, his eyes tempting eyes growing wider every second. “What is it?” Nikki was awfully confused and raised her eyebrows at him, “It’s nothing, Nik, hope you don’t mind me calling you that,” Nikki nodded and beamed, “I’m used to being called Nik, and I actually love it, too.” “Great! Well, as I was saying, it’s nothing but fate. See, oddly enough, you were the exact person I was having trouble reaching!” Nikki’s eyebrows furrowed with even more confusion. “Wha….? Why were looking for me, Ry? Hope you don’t mind being called that…” Ryan grinned with laughter, “Not at all. And, actually, I was looking for you because you’re the designer who’s creating Celtic Thunder’s newest outfits. We were supposed to meet for lunch tomorrow, but I caught a flight a day earlier than expected, so I was hoping you wouldn’t mind discussing your designs with me today. I completely understand if you still have some finishing touches to add still, so if you’re not comfortable discussing them today, we can meet at our actual appointment tomorrow.” Nikki’s sat gaping when Ryan explained that he was the big celebrity who was coming to talk with her. She could barely believe a divinely attractive vocalist from a well-loved and renowned Celtic group was sitting next to her on her very own front porch. This had to be a dream, “Nik….Nik? Are you alright there, lass? You looked a bit more than stunned.” When Nikki finally realized two minutes had passed without her saying a word, she looked down at her feet and blushed a deep red, which Ryan thought was exquisitely beautiful. “I…I’m so sorry, Ryan.” Ryan smirked at Nikki’s embarrassment. “Don’t be sorry, Nik. It’s fine. I get that expression a lot when someone realizes I’m a ‘celebrity.’ Although, if I may say, I have never seen anyone’s expression look so amazing cute.” Nikki’s heart skipped beats when she heard him say she was cute, but she quickly shook off her heart’s attempt to take over her mind. Yes, she was in a failing relationship with a total jerk, but allowing herself to fall in love with a man she’s only known for a few minutes would end in the destruction of her porcelain heart. She definitely did not need another crack in her already torn, bandaged, and bruised heart. Nikki was only in a few relationships, but all of them were short-lived. “Thanks, Ry. You’re sweet.” Her blush deepened when she gazed in awe at Ryan’s beaming heartbreaker smirk. He seemed too sweet to be a heartbreaker, though, but Nikki wasn’t entirely sure. “So,” Ryan chuckled and stared directly into Nikki’s dark brown eyes, “is that a yes to moving our appointment to…well…now?” Nikki gave a faint laugh and smiled down at the floor then up at Ryan, “Absolutely! But, first things first, let’s get you dried and warmed up indoors, before you catch a horrible cold.” “Oh,” Ryan sarcastically whistled, “you care that much about me, huh?” Nikki stopped at the door to look at him, feeling her heart soar and pulse rapidly, “Well, I mean, we are what you would call ‘fast-friends,’ don’t you think?” Ryan stood to his feet and walked over to Nikki, “I agree, Nik, so…?” “So, I care about ALL my friends, including my fast-friends.” She gave him a sweet smile, and Ryan chuckled lowly. Though he didn’t wish to play with Nikki’s emotions at all, Nikki kept the steel wall around her heart higher than ever before, because secretly believed Ryan was simply another jerk behind a charming mask. That was always the case. Nikki truly did think that if she let any large amount of happiness into her life, she’d end up getting a larger amount of despair. Would she be forced to stay single and lonely for the rest of her life? It certainly seemed that way right now. “Maybe it should be that way…” Nikki thought to herself, “It’s better to be safe than sorry.” She forced herself to smile as she led Ryan into her house. Nikki began setting up a warm fire for Ryan, “Need any help with that, Nik?” Nikki looked over her shoulder at Ryan and smiled, rolling her eyes, “No thanks, Ry. I’ve got it under control. I can fend for myself though I am a woman.” Ryan’s eyes widened as he raised his hands in surrender, “Okay, okay, Ms. Independent.” Nikki playfully punched him and he pretended that it hurt him a lot, emotionally and physically. Nikki just stood there with her hand on her hips and throwing her head back in laughter. “I’ll be back in a moment, Ry. I’m going to heat up some tea. I’m so glad you actually wore a raincoat, because sadly, I wouldn’t have had any dry clothes for you.” Ryan stretched out his arms across the sofa and gave Nikki and side-glance, “I’m not THAT stupid, Nik.” He faintly smiled and looked behind him, but Nikki already walked into the kitchen. He looked around Nikki’s living room, examining and observing her sense of style. It was classy, yet trendy with a tomboy’s touch. Nikki’s favorite color appeared to be red, since her furniture, décor, and wall color were coordinated with red colors. She had dozens of pictures hanging around the room in beautiful frames, and Ryan guessed they were pictures of her loved ones. She certainly seemed like a family-oriented lass, feminine, yet boyish. To Ryan, that was ultimately the perfect mixture for a female. Nikki gracefully entered the living room, carrying a tray filled with an old-fashioned teapot and matching tea cups. “Here we are!” She set the tray down on the coffee table and poured tea for them both. “Sugar and milk, or no?” She smiled up at Ryan politely as she leaned over to grab a spoon from the tray. “Please and thanks.” He laid back on the leather sofa as he watched Nikki scoop, pour, and stir, “You know, I’m not used to having people do everything for me. This is all very new to me. Is it a New Yorker thing?” He commented in a teasing tone. Nikki raised her eyebrow and handed him the warm china cup, “Hmmm…I don’t rightly know. Is your smirk an Irish thing?” “Actually, it is in some ways.” Nikki giggled, “Really….so how do I know you’re not lying about that?” Ryan put his hand to his chest and pouted, “Ouch, Nik, that hurt right here.” He patted his chest, and Nikki broke out into a fit of laughter. She couldn’t remember the last time she was so cheerful; it was almost like Ryan had the power to make her smile by doing the simplest of gestures, but she kept that thought to herself deep in the back of her mind. She laid her hand on his shoulder and shook her head, “Ry….get over it.” He took her hand and kissed it, “Apology accepted, Nik.” He winked at her. Nikki sat in shock for a moment, then, realizing where she was once again, she patted Ryan’s shoulder and grinned attractively. “So, shall we look at the designs I’ve sketched out for you and your friends?” “Absolutely! I’m anxious to see the products of your skillfully unique talent, Nik.” It seemed like Ryan always knew what to say to make her heart skip and twirl. “Don’t get your hopes up too high, Ry.” Nikki blushed and walked off to the window seat in her family room so she could grab her sketchbook. Ryan immediately noticed her unnecessary modesty about her talents, “Don’t you dare underestimate your beautiful talents, Nik. I understand that we’ve only met for about an hour or so, but believe me when I say I’ve never grown so close this rapidly to anyone I have ever met. I know for a fact that you are a beyond gorgeous girl, inside and out. Your heart is a heart of gold that shines through your every action. You truly do stand out, Nikki Collins, so please don’t think you’re less than what you ACTUALLY are.” Nikki sat completely still, blinking and speechless. She was so touched by Ryan’s meaningful words, and they were truly the words she desperately longed to hear after such a dreadful day. His words literally brought some life and peace back to her withered heart. “Thank you so very very much, Ryan.” She managed to whisper her thanks to him, though she was still amazed. Ryan cautiously reached to hold her hand, and she graciously let him. He gave her cold but soft hand a warm squeeze, looking into Nikki’s stunning dark blue eyes with affection. Nikki tried her hardest to ward off any thoughts of falling for Ryan. Unfortunately, the steel barrier around her heart didn’t allow her mind to be set free. Nikki cleared her throat and quickly picked up her sketchbook that she placed in her lap. “Let me see…ah, here it is!” Nikki beamed with delight as she handed the book over to Ryan. Ryan quickly studied the drawing with awe. His gawked and slowly turned his head to look at Nikki, “This….is….you designed this, Nik? You’re joking, right? You’ve got to be joking. This. Is. Incredible!!! The best silk suit design I’ve ever seen! And I have indeed seen MANY designs sketched by MANY world-class designers.” Nikki was utterly flattered, “Awwww, Ryan! You really love it that much?!” Nikki squealed in delight, and the two laughed, flipping through the other fifteen designs she made for Celtic Thunder. Ryan could barely contain his admiration, let alone stop looking at Nikki’s striking drawings. “I’m so happy you approve of them, Ry!” Nikki smile gleamed proudly. Ryan gave Nikki a congratulatory hug and set the sketchbook onto the small glass coffee table. “The guys will adore your designs for sure, Nik. I’m extremely proud of you.” He winked mischievously at her, “And to think you were trying to be modest.” He looked down and laughed, shaking his head. Nikki smiled contentedly and asked Ryan nervously, “How long will you be staying here in Manhattan?” Ryan gave her a hopeful look, “For about three more weeks, actually. I adore this city, and I was due for some vacation time and good craic, which I found her with you.” He gave her a nudge on the shoulder. Nikki looked puzzled, “Craic?” Ryan threw his head back in laughter, “Sorry, Nik. It’s an Irish saying. It basically means ‘good fun’.” “Oh, well then that’s great! I’m glad I could be some good craic for you, Ry.” Ryan chuckled and glanced at his watch, his jovial expression suddenly turning into a disappointed one. “It’s getting very late, Nik. Unfortunately, though I hate to leave you, I know you have work and other things to attend to, so I’ll be off now.” That put a damper on Nikki’s spirits at once. “Oh, okay Ry. Well, hey! You’re in town for three more weeks, right?” “Mhmm.” “Then, let’s spend some time together while we can. Here’s my number,” She quickly scribbled her name and contact numbers on a nearby notepad. She ripped the page out and handed it to Ryan. Her heart was screaming at her, telling her that she was making one HUGE mistake. The more time she spent with Ryan would mean the more time she would spend grieving over his departure back to Ireland. But, somewhere in the carefree part of her mind, something urged her to spend as much time as she could with Ryan before he had to leave. When she handed Ryan her phone number, her heart and mind immediately declared war upon each other, and left Nikki standing right in the middle of her brutal inner battle. Thankfully, she gave her carefree spirit a chance to dominate her actions for once. Ryan gladly took the tiny piece of paper Nikki handed to him, and exchanged numbers with her as well. Nikki led Ryan by the hand out to her front porch and looked up at him with a moping frown. Ryan smirked and lowly chuckled, “You remind me of Keith’s wife, Chlo Harkin. In fact, come to think of it, she has 3/4ths the same mannerisms you have. How…well, amazing.” “Keith Harkin’s wife? Huh, I’d love to meet her someday.” Nikki never heard or met someone who was almost identical to her out-casted self. “I think I’d really love that too, because that would mean you’d have to visit Ireland.” Ryan beamed mischievously at the thought. “Who knows…maybe I will because I want to.” Nikki gave Ryan a wink, and gently kissed his handsome face, leaving his heart slightly stunned. “How does grabbing a cup of coffee tomorrow morning sound?” Ryan’s face lit up as he grinned from ear to ear. “Sounds too good to be true.” The two of them laughed heartily, and Ryan returned Nikki’s sweet kiss with a kindhearted embrace. “Good night, Nik! See you tomorrow!” Ryan slowly let go of Nikki’s hand and headed out down the sidewalk, “Good night, Ry! Can’t wait!” Nikki stared off into the direction Ryan was walking until she could no longer visibly see the outline of his flawless figure. She smiled and sighed contentedly, plopping down onto her wooden porch swing and resting her chin on her palms. She contemplated how much she’d let loose tonight in front of Ryan. She even went so far as to kiss him on the cheek! Her mind definitely won the battle tonight, while her heart kept ranting and raving about how stupid she was to set herself for yet another aching fall. The more she thought on this, the more she became overwhelmed. Whose side was she ACTUALLY on? Her heart’s, or her mind’s? Nikki groaned and buried her pretty round face in her delicate hands. She wanted to let herself to freely fall for Ryan, but her fears and past experiences were trying to block her path. She completely forgot about her poor excuse for a boyfriend who she still needed to separate from. Any sane human being would tell her that this was not the time to dive into another relationship. But her mind was definitely no weak target. It fought just as hard as her heart did. Nikki gazed upwards to the tranquil night sky and breathed in the cool night air. Her inner battle still raged on, however, tonight Nikki seemed estactic and fulfilled with following her hopelessly romantic spirit. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hope y'all will sit tight for me...more to come very soon!!! ;D

You all are, like always, sweethearts. Thanks bunches and bunches for reading!!! Here's an update for all of you..Enjoy!! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nikki’s alarm clock went off at exactly six o’clock, and oddly enough, she woke up “bright eyed and bushy tailed.” She had the most pleasant dream the night before, which was obviously about Ryan. Nikki sat up in her bed, yawned and stretched out her arms. She looked straight into the dresser mirror sitting in front of her bed and winced. Her hair was sticking out in nearly every direction, and her face looked as if she had just recently fought in vicious hand-to-hand combat. “Eh,” Nikki shook off the fact that she looked like the bride of Frankenstein, “dreams always do this to me. They make me wake up with a damp, sweaty face and frizzy, uncontrollable hair.” She skipped off to the bathroom, and in no time, she was prepped and ready for the day ahead. This morning would be almost too enjoyable for Nikki because she was having coffee with Ryan. But, on her way out the door, she remembered that today was also the day she was going to face her cheating lover. Nikki’s heart began to draw her slowly and painfully back to grip of reality. She swiftly took out her cell phone from her purse and speed-dialed her boyfriend. “Hello?” Cole answered the phone with a laughing tone “Hello, Cole,” Nikki managed to say the words politely through her teeth. There was dead silence on Cole’s end of the phone line, “Nnnnn-ik? Wha….wha..” Cole cleared his throat, “Why on earth are you calling me NOW? You haven’t spoken to me for…” “Why does it matter how much I’ve called you or not…lately, you haven’t bothered seeing how I’ve been doing, so why should I think this relationship is still alive?!” Nikki’s pinned up fury started to lash out at Cole ferociously when she climbed into the driver’s seat of her car and slammed the door. Cole suddenly turned defensive, “Well I was wondering the same…” Nikki interrupted him again, “I know about her, Cole, I know about Ella White. Although, I don’t blame her, because she’s not the one who purposely stabbed at my heart.” Nikki wasn’t going to cry over this, but admittedly she was quite dismayed by the entire situation. Her heart, yet again, was encouraging Nikki to break-up with Cole and live happily ever after without a boyfriend or husband. Cole finally decided to speak up, “It’s over, Nikki. I’ll tell you it plain and simple so it’ll hurt less,” “Gee,” Nikki wondered sarcastically, “where did she find such a genius to date?” “Go on,” Nikki insisted. “It wasn’t, can’t, and will never work out between you and I, Nik. Yes, I loved you, but no, you’re not the girl for me. I can no longer look at you as more than a friend. So, what do you say, Nik? Can you understand that? May we just be friends?” Surprisingly, Nikki felt one teardrop welling up in her eye, “Can I understand that? Yes, but I’m not the one trying to cover up the truth with lies. You ripped me apart in the past, but not anymore, Cole. We’re no longer friends, either. I’m sorry, but that’s the way it is and will ALWAYS be. Goodbye, Cole. I hope you can one day find that soul mate of yours.” But, being the jerk that he was, Cole hung up after Nikki’s last words. Nikki sat quietly and frantically shook her head in disgust. Why did she ever let her heart pull her back into reality? Oh, yeah, it was because she wasn’t usually the one who wished to lightheartedly fly away, which honestly, could be a horrible trait at times. Nikki glanced at the clock while backing out of her driveway; she was still on time to meet Ryan. She quickly perked up when she thought about Ryan’s beautifully shaped face and dark, captivating eyes staring at her with a smirk upon his face. It made her pulse speed up and soar, and she laughed at herself as she drove down the busy streets of Manhattan. Nikki had no time finding a parking spot next to the café she was meeting Ryan at, since she was so familiar with finding parking spaces in the Big Apple. She grabbed her purse off the passenger seat, checked her make-up and hair in the rear view mirror, and stepped out her car. She put on her sunglasses and smoothed her pale pink, knee-high velvet sundress. Nikki walked as fast and gracefully as she could in high heels to the small corner restaurant, spotting Ryan looking divinely attractive as she sat in a laidback position at a back table waiting for Nikki. When she finally walked close enough for him to spot her out of the crowd, Ryan sat up and smiled, looking directly into Nikki’s soft blue eyes. Nikki blushed and looked down as she stepped into the café and over to the table Ryan was sitting at. “Wow, Nik, you look stunningly gorgeous.” He stood and warmly hugged Nikki, and politely pulled Nikki’s chair out for her. Nikki was clandestinely touched by his little gesture; no man had ever been so polite towards here before now. “Why, thank you Ry.” Nikki gave his arm a subtle touch. Ryan smirked down at her, “As my good friend Keith says, ‘Chivalry isn’t dead, dear.’” Ryan and Nikki laughed in unison. The waitress took their orders, showing a lot more courtesy towards Ryan than towards Nikki, which made Nikki a little jealous. But Nikki’s heart screamed at her wildly, “Stop, stop, stop, stop, stop, stop, stop!!! You just broke up with your boyfriend, silly girl! STAY SINGLE!!! YOU’RE ONLY FRIENDS!!!” So Nikki just kept telling herself, mainly her mind, that Ryan was her friend and ONLY her friend. When the waitress left, Ryan studied Nikki’s face intensely, “So, Nik,” Ryan began with a smile on his face and in his voice, “how are you, honey? Did you sleep well? Wow…that was an awkward question.” Ryan laughed nervously and scratched the back of his head. Nikki giggled and, with much inner fighting, lightly place her hand on his, “Tell me about Ireland and Celtic Thunder. I’m dying to know.” Ryan stared down at her sheepishly, “You sure that won’t bore you?” Nikki chuckled and grinned, “Of course not, Ry. Never at all.” Ryan explained the background of Celtic Thunder and how he and the other guys became involved in it. He told Nikki all about Keith, Damian, George, and Paul…well, at least what he actually did KNOW about them. They would joke about how they couldn’t trust a ‘dark destroyer’ such as Ryan, which was his stage-name. He also told her some funny stories about being on tour with the other four, “Damian is teased the most. George is the father, and sanity, over us all. Paul is the guy who laughs at all the jokes and tells us how we could better them, and Keith and I are the executers of the ridiculing.” Ryan gave a mockingly sinister grin, and Nikki couldn’t help but throw her head back in laughter. Then Ryan painted a verbal depiction of lovely Ireland for Nikki, taking her breath away by his very description of his homeland. He told her where he lived, which was the Moy, and how much she’d love the green fields and open air. Nikki was being hypnotized into going back with him to Ireland, but her heart raged on, drowning out the sound of her mind. They chatted on and on about life in Ireland, life touring with Celtic Thunder, and life for Nikki in New York as a major fashion designer. “My life’s pretty boring, Ry.” “I still want to know, Nik.” Ryan winked at her and gave her hand a gentle embrace, making Nikki blush bright red once again. Ryan thought it was very alluring and cute though. “I was offered this position with MMXI when I was recently graduating from graduate college. They came one day to my school and observed my sketches. The recruiters said that they fell in love with my work and couldn’t wait to hire me on the spot. So, here I am now…a country girl placed in the fast-paced city life.” “Whoa, you have a real gift, Nik! I had no idea you could draw and design so well. You put a lot of other people to shame.” Nikki smiled up at Ryan with a twinkle in her eyes, “Thanks, Ry. And I hope you know too that you have the same amount of talent that I have in designing, only your field is singing.” Ryan nodded in agreement, laughing heartily. “Yes, sweetheart, I know. Or else, Celtic Thunder wouldn’t have so many fans.” “I would still be a fan, Ry, even if your voice wasn’t any good.” Ryan raised his eyebrows in astonishment, and Nikki’s heart beat her up internally for saying that…but, her carefree mind was praising her joyfully and hopefully. She tried her best to drown out her heart’s irrational complaints. “What about, if you don’t mind me asking, your personal life? Any boyfriends, even though that’s not a legitimate question for such a stunning woman.” Nikki was temporarily stunned at his question, thinking about her hostile conversation earlier with yet another ex-boyfriend, Cole. “Nik? You okay, darling? We don’t have to talk about that subject if you don’t want to…” Nikki snapped out of her depressing daze, “Nnnnn-ooo, nnnn-ooo, it’s fine, Ry. I…just…um..” Nikki breathed in deeply to calm her nerves. Ryan contemplated the distress on Nikki’s face, “Sweetheart, you did have a boyfriend. And he recently hurt you, didn’t he?” Nikki thought it was adorable to see Ryan get upset at her ex, who he didn’t even know, for hurting her. “Um…well, yes. But, how did you know, Ry?” Ryan still didn’t let go of Nikki’s delicate hand, “I could tell by the way you wanted to avoid the subject. I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have read you like an open book, Nik.” “No, no, no, Ry! You have done absolutely nothing wrong.” She looked into his shining eyes with sincerity. “Do you want to talk about it, Nik?” “Sure, I could let off some steam right about now. His name is Cole Richardson. He and I thought we were soul mates, and I was stupid enough to believe that right away. He’s been seeing another girl behind my back, and this morning, we spoke for the first time in weeks. We ‘officially’ broke up today, but I was so used to being hurt by him that this morning his words had no impression on my heart anymore.” Ryan looked even more distressed when he heard this, and, if possible, much more sympathetic. “Nik, I’m so sorry. But, you deserve so much better than that jerk. I promise you that, on my life.” Nikki gave Ryan a hopeful look, “Ry, you’re hope in the darkest of time, you know. I can never thank you enough.” He patted her arm softly and stared at her in confusion, “Are you still going to work today, after all of that, Nik?” Nikki raised her eyebrow at him, “Well, yes, of course. Why, Ry?” “I was hoping you would give me the extreme pleasure and honor of being my date for the day.” Nikki had a horrible fit within her why Ryan asked her to be his ‘date’, and the battlefield was gorier than before. She had a hard time staying focused, but she snapped back into reality instantly. “I don’t know, Ry. I’ve never skipped out of my job on purpose.” “Please, please, pretty please Nik! For me.” He gave Nikki his adorably cute puppy eyes. She contemplated the fact that not showing up to work for once wouldn’t in any way jeopardize her career, since it’s never happened before. Besides, she didn’t have forever to spend with Ryan. Only three weeks. Her carefree spirit cringed at the thought, but her heart yelled out “It’s life, sweetheart! Deal with it. And don’t you dare go with him. It’ll just tempt you into destruction even more.” “So, what do you say, Nik, will you go with me around the city today?” Nikki couldn’t do anything but surrender to his will, “Alright, Ry, I’ll do it for you.” Nikki had never seen Ryan so happy before. His face glittered with pure delight. “Really, Nik?! Great! Aw, geez, you’re too good to be true at times.” With that said, the two ran out the café hand-in-hand and spent the whole day together. They walked down Time Square, got tickets to an extravagant Broadway production, went sightseeing at the Statue of Liberty, and, at the end of the afternoon, they let their childish sides get the best of them as they chased each other around the open green lots of Central Park. Nikki thought this was all just a wonderful dream, and didn’t let her stubborn heart get the best of her joy. Ryan and Nikki were probably the most contented people in all of New York that day. “Ryan,” Nikki began as they leaned over the whitewashed fencing side by side around a huge pond fountain, “today was the most fun I’ve had in years, may be even my whole life. You made today something extra-special for me…something I’ll always remember.” She rested her head on his shoulder for a moment and sighed with contentment. Ryan smiled at her sweetly and kissed the top of her straight, light blonde hair. “Don’t thank me, Nik. I didn’t do anything but ask you to come with me. To me, you were the one who made this day and every moment in it absolutely unforgettable.” The couple grinned at each other, “Guess we think alike then, huh?” Nikki commented with a laugh and friendly shove. They turned to face each other, “I think we do.” Ryan agreed, still not able to wipe the smile off his exquisite face. They stood there, staring into each other’s eyes, though it was hard for the both of them to tell what the other was truly feeling. Nikki was hoping that Ryan couldn’t see through her protective layer, or else he’d see the battlefield within her, and Nikki most certainly did NOT want that to happen. Deep down, though, Nikki just did not have the strength to deny her falling feelings for Ryan. There was something about him, though her heart tried to tell her otherwise, that made him stand out from any and every other guy in the world, but she hadn’t quite put her finger on it as yet. Ryan and Nikki gradually began leaning in closer to each other, and Nikki closed her eyes and quivered as her heart and mind fought again constantly. She wished they would just hush up. But, when Ryan got close enough to kiss her, nothing happened. He stopped. “I’m…I’m so sorry, Nik. That was totally un…” “Ry, Ry, it’s fine.” Nikki did her best to hide her disappointment and fear, “I’m not angry at you.” Ryan furrowed his eyebrows, “You’re not upset at me for that?” “Of course not, silly. Why would I be?” Ryan was slightly shocked by her answer. Nikki glanced at her watch, “It’s getting late, Ry. We should be getting home, though I really don’t want to.” Ryan detected the sadness in Nikki’s voice, “Do you think you’d like to be my dinner date tomorrow night, Nik, or do you have other plans?” Nikki tried to compose herself, “I would love to.” Her smile grew and gleamed instantly. Ryan laughed and returned the beautiful smile, “Wonderful! Now, shall we?” Ryan held out his arm and Nikki, with a great deal of blushing, daintily grabbed hold of it. They walked to her car and reached Ryan’s hotel in a matter of minutes. Before he got out, Ryan gave Nikki’s hand another tight squeeze, “I’ll miss you, Nik. Give me a call whenever you want to.” “And you know I’ll be missing you every moment, too, Ry. You can call me whenever YOU want too, also.” The couple giggled together. Ryan kissed Nikki’s forehead, “Bye, Nik! Be safe, sweetheart!” “Bye, Ry! Talk to you soon!” Ryan shut the door and entered into the grand hotel lobby through the gigantic revolving glass door. Nikki sighed as she drove home. Today was one of the happiest days of her life. Like yesterday, she let her mind control her heart and actions once more. But then, she remembered when Ryan stopped just before he barely kissed her. Why, though? Her heart shouted out, “Nikki Collins, you’re just running down the road to destruction at one-hundred miles per hour, aren’t you?” Nikki tried and tried to shove that voice out of her head. “You know, he probably already has someone else that he’s simply not telling you about. After all, he DOES seem like the cheating type. Only thing different this time is that you’re the object being played with, not being cheated on. Sounds like an even worse place to be.” That hit Nikki like a rock. She never thought about that till now. Would dear and gentle Ryan Kelly dare to think about messing around with her like that? “No…” She whispered to herself as tears welled up in her eyes. “It can’t be, this just can’t be fake…right?” Was this really just another trap waiting to seize her by its grip? Unfortunately, her heart’s influence began to overwhelm her mind. ------------------------------------------------------------------ another update still to come soon!

Hi again everyone!!! I am SO sorry it took me SOOO long to update. School has kept me busy most of the time. Here you are, though!!! Thanks so much for reading! I really really hope y'all like it!!! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It was exactly 6:58 AM, but to Nikki’s surprise she woke to something other than her alarm clock. “…ughhhh…” Nikki rubbed her eyes and rolled over, reacting to her noisy, “cell phone?! This had better be good.” She reached over for it on the bedside table. “Hhh-elloo?” Nikki managed to mumble a greeting. “Good morning, sweetie!” Ryan’s sweet and melodious voice was on the other end of the line, another surprise to Nikki. Her half-closed eyelids swiftly popped open at the sound of Ryan on the phone, “Rrrrr-yy? Whhhh-at’s up? Oops, sss-orry. Good morning too you also, Ry. You can tell that I’m not really a morning person.” Nikki faintly laughed as she slowly sat up on the bed trying to wake up more. Ryan bellowed, “That’s fine, love. All the touring has made me immune to prolonged drowsiness on mornings though. Aren’t you usually awake by now though?” “Yeah, but…” Before she could say anything else though, her alarm clock instantly broke the peace of the morning, startling Nikki half to death. She dropped her cell phone onto the floor accidentally as she frantically rushed to turn the alarm off. She reached down to pick up her cell, “I’m so so sorry about that, Ry. Apparently, you were my substitute alarm clock this morning.” “Happy to be of any assistance to you, Nik. I knew you’d be getting dressed for work soon, so I thought I would call now. You’re not planning on skipping out of your plans with me tonight, are you darling?” Nikki blushed every time he called her ‘darling’, ‘love’, ‘sweetheart’. It just felt right to Nikki, at times. She made her way gracefully towards the bathroom, “Now what kind of girl do you take me for, Mr. Ryan Kelly?” “A devious little sweetheart.” “Hey now, mister, that is…!!!...completely true.” “I know Nik, because honestly, you’re an open book.” Both laughed at their odd yet ridiculously funny conversation, “Well Nik, I’ll let you go get dressed for work, darling. Be safe, honey. Talk to you later?” “I’ll call you any chance I get, Ry.” “Great, have a wonderful day Nik! Think of me some time.” “You know I will, Ry.” She hung up the phone happily giggling. She showered and pulled over a light blue Venetian sundress with a pair of flats with bows on the top. She headed down the staircase into her luxurious kitchen. She poured herself some cereal and munched on the bowlful for ten minutes. Rushing out the door, Nikki slipped on her shades and put her car into gear. She headed down the street, blasting her radio and singing along to Celtic Thunder’s “It’s Entertainment”. She simply could not remember the last time she’d ever been so happy. In fact, it seemed like nothing in the world was standing in her way today. She made her way into the grand glass building where her office was located with a spring in her petite steps. “Good morning, Sara!” Sara was the pretty red-headed receptionist who was Nikki’s closest office pal. She was holding the phone to her ear and writing on a notepad. Sara glanced up at Nikki as she set the phone down, her eyes growing wider and wider as she took in the radiance of Nikki’s entire disposition. “…Is that you, Nik? Honestly, alive in the flesh?” Sara shook her head and blinked as Nikki burst into laughter, “The one and only hopefully, Sara!” “What happened to you…it’s like you practically bloomed over midnight!” Nikki walked closer towards Sara’s desk with a sly look, leaned over and beckoned Sara to come closer, which made Sara anxious with curiosity. She prepared for Nikki to tell her the secret of a lifetime. Nikki whispered, “I’ll tell you later, hon.” She giggled and ran down the empty hallway as quickly as possible, knowing Sara would seek revenge for her teasing. Sara sat in shock for a moment, and then threw a stack of letters at Nikki. The two girls laughed hysterically, “That’s what you get, Nikki Collins! You had better tell me later, too!” “I will, Sara!” Nikki picked out the four letters lying on the ground and carried them all the way to the back, where her office was located. She laid her hand-designed purse on the leather sofa of her stylish office that overlooked the heart of Manhattan. The streets were busy as usual, and the traffic was normal too; overcrowded and highly fast-paced. Nikki continued to stare at the hustling and bustling down below, daydreaming gorgeous, bright, warm, and lush green Ireland. “What a joy it must be to live there.” Nikki thought to herself. Her dreaming was interrupted by a light knock on her door, “Please, come in, Mr. Jones.” Nikki tensed a bit when she saw her boss, Tony Jones, standing in the hallway staring at her with confusion. He didn’t appear to be angry or annoyed, though, so Nikki loosened up. Tony made his way over to Nikki with a surprising smile upon his handsome, shapely, lightly tanned face, “Are you all right, Nikki? You seemed to be in a daze when I knocked. I was shocked to see you come in so lighthearted today, let alone come in early. “I’m fine, Mr. Jones—“ “Tony.” He corrected her with a smirk. Nikki blushed, “I’m sorry…Tony. I am fine, though. I was just contemplating something when you knocked, so you caught me off guard for a minute or two.” “Well then,” Tony cleared his throat and gestured with one hand toward her office chair behind her enormous burgundy office desk, “I suggest you take a seat before I give you this good news.” “Uh…um..okay.” Nikki’s heart raced as she slowly walked over to her chair and gracefully sat down. Tony took a seat in one of the two velvet chairs in front of Nikki’s desk. “As you know Nikki, I think of you as one of my best designers, and I completely trust you with every project I hand over to you.” Nikki took in a deep breath to steady herself, “Thank you so very much for that too, Tony.” Tony gave her a gleaming smile, “I put you in charge of the Celtic Thunder project because I knew your talents would more than suffice their needs. And, from the sound of it, the guy they sent from their group adored it. Actually, that itself is an understatement. He could’ve kept praising you all day if he had the opportunity.” Nikki’s inner self did backflips when she heard Ryan had put in a volunteered good word for her. She didn’t know how she could ever repay him. Tony went on, “Celtic Thunder’s producer, Sharon Browne, contacted me this morning to acknowledge your job well done. Now, here’s the surprise.” Tony grinned and looked straight into Nikki’s sparkling blue eyes. She was ready to burst with happiness, “Nikki, she said that they may be needing your services for a few more weeks. Since you did such a remarkable job, Sharon would like to have you design quite a few more outfits for Celtic Thunder, their musicians, and their dancers. So, instead of inconveniencing you, what do you say to staying in Ireland for a couple of weeks?” That did it; Nikki had to squeal, and, embarrassingly, she did. Right in front of Tony, too. She quickly calmed herself, “I’m sorry, it’s just….you have no idea how long I’ve wanted to make a trip to Ireland! This is…such a dream come true, Tony! Thank you so so so so much!” Tony smiled and handed Nikki the envelope that held her plane ticket, gently patting her hand, “I hope you can be ready for tomorrow morning, Nikki, because that was the only flight they still had available.” “That will DEFINITELY not be a problem, Tony. Thank you again.” Tony chuckled as he stood up to walk out, “You are most welcome, Nikki. I know you’ll do great…just be certain you squeeze some fun into there, also.” Nikki beamed at the thought of being in the open-aired Ireland, “Of course!” “Great! Take care, Nikki.” “Will do, Tony. See you.” Nikki stared at the plane ticket she held in her hand and giggled with pure delight. But…the thought suddenly occurred to her. Ryan would still be here for a few more weeks. Her spirits soon sank while her heart cried out, “Good riddance!!!” Tonight would probably be the last night she’d see him. The thought tore her to shreds. Her sprouting joy wilted, leaving Nikki disoriented with tears welling up in her eyes. She forced them back down, though. She wasn’t going to cry over this, even though she desperately longed to. Nikki tried to maintain focus on her sketches for the remainder of the workday, but the nagging, knifepoint feeling in the back of her mind was painfully tormenting her. “At 4PM, Nikki quietly and quickly grabbed her things and headed out towards the parking lot. Sara didn’t bother to ask about Nikki’s sudden drastic mood change for fear that she would make Nikki feel much worse. Nikki drove home through the traffic with a bleak and expressionless look upon her face. All she could do was stare at the crammed road as she made her way home. When she finally reached home, it was already 5:00, and remembered her date with Ryan. She wasn’t about to pass up dinner with him, especially if it would be the last time she’d see him. The thought stabbed her harshly, so she ran upstairs to take a soothing bath. Unfortunately, even that didn’t calm her nerves. She pulled on a rugged t-shirt and a pair of shorts. She walked to the window seat in her bedroom and curled up in the corner of it, allowing one tear to leisurely streak down her round, rosy cheek. Then, her phone rang, interrupting the battle between misery and happiness within herself. Nikki wiped her cheek and reached for the phone, “Hello?” Nikki tried her best to beat out the sadness that was so apparent in her usually musical voice. “Nikki, love, what’s the matter?’ Ryan’s sweet and velvety voice sounded extremely concerned. Nikki shook her head out of the miserable daze she was in when she heard Ryan on the phone, “Ry? I…I was meaning to call you…I’m so sorry I didn’t do it sooner,” Nikki’s sped up as she tried to explain, “I wasn’t trying to skip out on our date or anything, but today’s just been so hectic, and there’s so much I need to—“ “Whoa, whoa, Nik, sweetheart, slow down. Don’t fluster yourself like that, darling.” Nikki breathed in deeply and sighed. “Ry…” But he interrupted Nikki once again, politely though, of course, “Nik, you look lamenting. What’s gotten your spirits in such despair, honey?” “Ry, I’m just going to be frank with you since this has been killing me internally all day…” There was dead silence on Ryan’s end of the phone, and Nikki knew he was very worried about her. “Your producer, Sharon Browne, was pleased with my work for Celtic Thunder, so my boss is sending me on a plane to Ireland tomorrow for a few weeks. But, you’ll be here for another three weeks, and you’ll probably be leaving for Ireland when I’m on my way back to NYC, meaning that I might not see you after tonight.” Admitting that innermost thought of hers was almost too much for poor Nikki to bear. Then Ryan, as best as he could, comforted Nikki. He was the only person in the whole world who could comfort Nikki in a matter of seconds, “Nik…sweetheart…why is that bothering you so much?” Nikki got up in frustration and walked to the doorway of her bedroom with her back to the window. “Because, Ry!!! In case you haven’t been able to tell as yet…I’ve connected with you more that I have with any person I’ve known for years. Something special such as what we have between us is something rare and valuable, and to lose your love so quickly….it’s just…so..” Nikki was obviously on the verge of crying her heart out, but she froze when she heard a soft tap on the window. Nikki dropped her phone as she froze in utter fear, until she heard Ryan’s voice, “Nik, you should answer that.” Nikki snatched her phone off the wooden floor, “Are you nuts, Ry?!! You have no idea who that could be!” Ryan smirked to himself, “I like your t-shirt, Nik. It really does suit your flawless self.” Nikki couldn’t have been more confused, “Oh, and Nik…would you give me the honor of graciously letting me in?” “What are you talki—“ It hit Nikki all of a sudden and she sharply spun around to face her huge bedroom window two floors off the ground. Astonishingly, there sat the beautiful Ryan Kelly right on her windowsill. Ryan merely sat there smirking and waved at Nikki when she realized it was him. Immediately, Nikki ran to the window and opened it up for Ryan. The couple laughed as Nikki gently tugged Ryan through. When he was finally inside, Ryan caught Nikki by her waist and pulled her closely in to him. He stared deeply and sweetly into Nikki’s eyes, “Now, you don’t think I would let you go to Ireland without me, do you lass?” Nikki pouted, “I don’t think you have a choice at such short notice, Ry.” “Oh contraire, Nik.” Ryan shook his finger and reached into his jean’s pocket, pulling out a stiff piece of paper. He handed it to Nikki, still holding her at the waist. Nikki studied the piece of paper intently, soon realizing what it was, “Ry…is it…how can this…be REAL? This is a seat right next to mine on the flight tomorrow!” Ryan threw his head back in laughter at Nikki’s epiphany, “Sharon told me that your boss bought you a plane ticket to Ireland, and it still had loads of seats left on the flight. So I checked it out and bought the one right next to yours. I asked him for your seat number after I spoke with him earlier this morning.” Nikki still couldn‘t believe it was really true, but she fell for it anyways, even if it was a lie. But thankfully, it was all reality. “Ryan Kelly, you have made this day THE most perfect one I have ever had in my life. It’s impossible to repay you for all the joy you’ve placed in my life. You are truly a heaven sent angel, Ry.” Ryan stared at Nikki in shock, “What is it Ry?” Nikki asked in confusion once again, “Wow Nik…how’d you do that? You pulled the words I was about to say to you right out of my mouth, except you said that I was the angel. You are more akin to me than any other person, male and female. That never fails to stun me. It’s like you are the exact answer to my fervent prayers for…” But he didn’t tell Nikki which of his prayers she was an answer for, but that had no effect on her. She was incandescently happy, and so was Ryan. Surprisingly, Ryan pulled Nikki even closer towards him, and he tightly, lovingly embraced her in his strong arms. Nikki felt contented and secure; she allowed her spirits to soar despite the scolding voice inner voice. She indeed was falling deeper into love with Ryan, and she somehow allowed her hopes to rise. In that moment, the infuriating and depressing past no longer existed. The burden was lifted off of Nikki’s porcelain heart. Ryan and Nikki stood in the shimmering moonlight hugging, and the two secretly enjoyed it more than they believed possible. And so began their wild journey together…but would it last for a lifetime as they hoped? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- More to come very soon!! ;D

shorter...but still something. I'll have more for y'all over the weekend ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The night before had made Nikki SO incredibly happy because she was able to spend it all with Ryan. He helped her pack, cook, clean up, and somehow he managed to add sparkle and fun into those regular, boring activities. They stayed up till 12AM talking about Ryan’s life, Celtic Thunder, and Nikki; Ryan had no clue that Nikki could sing so beautifully. Her voice was first soprano, light, and airy, which made her the female version of Paul Byrom’s voice. Nikki was shocked to think that she could compare to one of those five darling Celtic singers, but she was also happy about that too, because she ADORED singing. Nikki also learned something about Ryan that she never knew before; he loved to play the guitar. Nikki was extremely happy to know that because she’d been playing the guitar since she was fifteen and she treasured it. Since the two stayed up so late talking to each other on Nikki’s sofa, Nikki invited Ryan to stay in her guestroom for the night. Ryan’s watch alarm is what woke Nikki from her gentle sleep when he tiptoed into her room to wake her, “Ry…turn it off…” Nikki groaned and smiled at him as best as she could, “Nik, sleepyhead!” Ryan laughed at her cute clumsiness while she was still groggy. “We have a plan to catch, lassie.” Nikki buried her face into the pillow and muffled, “I don’t want to wake up yet.” Ryan didn’t respond, and Nikki knew something mischievous was on his mind. She slowly tilted her head upwards to glance at his ridiculously handsome self. Sure enough, Ryan was smirking at her with an impish yet alluring twinkle in his dark eyes. “Ry? Wha—“ But before Nikki could respond, Ryan swooped her up in his arms and spun her around, laughing. Nikki was slightly shocked but quickly got over the feeling. In a moment, she was laughing heartily right alongside beautiful Ryan Kelly. Finally, when he spun her around all the way to her bedroom, he carefully placed her down in the doorway and kissed her softly on her nose. Nikki giggled and returned the kiss on his cheek. “Get dressed, love. I’ll call a taxi and make something for us to munch on before we go.” “ ‘Kay, Ry! Thanks!” So they both hurried, anxious to make their impatiently awaited trip to Ireland. Ryan offered Nikki to stay with him, and, though she didn’t want it to be too obvious, she accepted as soon as he said the words. How could she not? Ryan was so excited that Nikki would be spending the majority of her time in Ireland with him. He already grew so fond of her, but that makes it all the more difficult to say goodbye. They both knew goodbye would approach all too soon, but they pushed that thought away every time reality popped into their heads. Their relationship didn’t seem like one from reality, considering its origins especially. However, there was something else, almost like an unearthly bond between the two souls. Ryan, despite his charming features, didn’t experience too many relationships, let alone heartbreaks, so falling in love with Nikki was passionate and carefree for him. Nikki, however, had been hurt so many times in the past and, even though she knew she loved Ryan, her heart’s eyes were still blind. Would she REALLY be so careless as to let her nearly unfathomable bond with Ryan be torn and shattered by her past? It seemed that way at times…but at other times, the hope of their true love blossoming could never be more present.

Plot kinda twists in this update...hope you all enjoy!!! Thank you SOOOOO much for all your support! <3 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nikki hopped out of the taxi cab and grabbed her suitcase from the trunk, despite Ryan insisting that he’d carry her luggage. “I’m not useless, you know, Ry,” Nikki teased. “Never said you were, Nik,” Ryan had a deep sarcastic tone in his voice as he walked behind Nikki, smirking, “I’m merely trying to prove to you that not EVERY guy thinks that chivalry is dead.” Nikki’s heart pounded as she contemplated what Ryan could’ve been implying, but shook off the thought. “Uh, well, thanks Ry.” There was an awkward silence until the couple reached the terminal. “The guys are so anxious to meet you, Nik. It’s been quite some time since they’ve had such a beautiful American lass come to visit them.” He winked down at Nikki, making her blush deeply. “Really, Ry? Who was the last American girl to visit with you all?” Ryan chuckled lowly when he thought back to Chloe and Keith. They were in a similar position as Nikki and Ryan a year ago, and ended up marrying each other. Nikki eyed Ryan suspiciously, “Do I WANT to know?” He shot a glance at her and smiled, “Of course you do! You’re almost an exact replica of Chloe Moore, well, I should say Chloe Harkin, Keith’s wife. Keith found her while he was down in LA for a vacation. Chloe had been longing to come to Ireland, and when she lost her job, Sharon made Chloe an offer to become a dancer and singer for Celtic Thunder. Over a few months, Chloe and Keith spent loads of time together, and they found out that they were perfect matches. So, Keith proposed to her, and she accepted. So now she’s our adopted little Irish lassie. And, you’re now officially OUR second adopted Irish lassie.” Nikki blinked in shock, “Whoa…talk about a fairytale love story. Lucky girl.” “Luck of the Irish, I guess.” They both laughed at Ryan’s fail for a pun. “I’ve never met anyone quite that similar to me before. And now a stranger is, as I hear, almost exactly like me. How odd.” “Very odd, indeed, Nik.” Ryan agreed, though he couldn’t help but share his happiness on the subject. He was secretly hoping the love story between he and Nikki would bloom as Keith and Chloe’s did. He was desperately hoping Nikki would somehow find a way to stay in Ireland. He couldn’t think for a minute about saying goodbye to Nikki for such a long period of time, if not forever. Nikki was also secretly having thoughts about departing from Ireland, and, above all, saying farewell to Ryan. She knew very well that she was falling in love with him and she could no longer stop herself. Saying goodbye to him forever would just mean the biggest heartbreak of her life. Would she REALLY be able to stand up to that feeling? She’d have to…she knew what she had to do and what would be best. Given their circumstances, she knew that she must submit to the fact that Ryan Kelly was simply not the man for her. Nikki's heart agreed to that idea fully, but her mind kept telling her that recklessness in love was sometimes the best option. What if she did intend on staying in Ireland? Would her love for Ryan grow into the love story Chloe Harkin experienced with Keith? “Ugh….too many questions for one girl to handle!” cried Nikki internally. She groaned aloud though, without even noticing. “Nik, Nik? What’s the matter, love?” Nikki snapped out of her uncomfortable daze, “Wha—Oh. It’s nothing, Ry, really.” “Okay then,” but Ryan didn’t believe her. As they made their way to the security check, Ryan kept a close eye on Nikki. Nikki was trying her best to hide her internal struggle; she was trying to emotionally detach herself from Ryan. When they made it past security, the two sat down in the waiting area. Boarding wouldn’t be for another fifteen minutes, so they had time to talk. “Nik, I…” Ryan’s cell phone rang, which miffed him a bit, “I’m sorry, Nik, hang on a sec.” Nikki giggled, “I’m not GOING anywhere, Ry.” Ryan rolled his eyes as he rushed to pull his cell out of his jeans pocket, “Right.” She playfully gave him a shove, “Hello, Ryan Kelly speaking. Hey there, Keith! Yup, we’ll be there by 6. Mmhmm. Okay, sounds great! See you then.” He hung up the phone with a smile on his face, “Keith’s getting a kick out of this reversed déjà vu stuff.” Nikki smiled but gave Ryan a puzzled look, “Reversed déjà vu, Ry? How so?” Ryan’s eye sparkled with hope, “A year ago, I was the one picking up the two lovebirds from the airport in Ireland.” Nikki’s heart pounded even harder. He said ‘lovebirds.’ Was he referring to them as lovebirds, too? Ryan caught Nikki’s nervous glance, “Was my word choice too much for you to handle, Nik?” “Um, no Ry, not at all. Why would you—“ “Because your facial expressions make you too easy to read, Nik.” She glanced at her feet and blushed, “I know, Ry. It’s just…I can’t tell you.” Nikki was so embarrassed that she let one pesky tear gently glide down her rosy cheek, and obviously Ryan wouldn’t miss it. He put his arms around her and drew her closely to him, “Nik…try to understand when I say that I’ve never been this open with a girl outside my family before. You’re truly something special, Nikki Collins. Don’t you ever, for even a second, think that I would get upset at you for sharing your thoughts with me. Give me a chance to prove myself to you, Nik. If you want me to leave, order me away and I will go. If you want me to be with you forever, I would find a way. And even if you wanted me to change something about myself, I would probably do it for you alone, Nik. So please,” He lifted her chin with his finger so she could face him, “believe me, Nik. Let me prove to you that I…I…” Nikki held onto Ryan earnestly, waiting for him to say those oh-so-special three words that part of her was dying to hear. But, unfortunately the call for boarding interrupted him. Nikki couldn’t have been more disappointed. Ryan bent his head and sighed, “Let’s get going, Nik.” Reluctantly, Nikki picked up her carry-on. Her delicate hand was still intertwined with Ryan’s, but she didn’t bother to let go because she didn’t actually WANT to. To the average stander-by, she and Ryan looked like an adorable, romantically-involved couple, but this was the SECOND time Ryan had stopped himself from showing Nikki some form of romantic love. Yes, she knew he loved her, but was it love like between a prince and princess, or love between brother and sister? The thought generously stabbed Nikki’s chest. What if he didn’t WANT to be romantically-involved with her because another woman, probably more a thousand times more gorgeous than herself, had stolen his heart first? Nikki still had a glimpse of hope twinkling with her soul, but if things kept going the way they were, she was positive that the small, fluttering light would soon be quenched. Ryan led her to their seats and pushed their carry-ons into the overhead compartment. When they were both settled in their seats, Ryan surprised Nikki by affectionately taking her soft hands into his large, warm ones. He kissed her right hand for a few long seconds, then slowly tilted his head upwards to look at Nikki. “Nik, forgive my frankness, but I really cannot keep this pinned up within me any longer. It literally is torturing me. Nik,” He looked deeply into her angelic blue eyes, “you don’t know this yet, but you’re my saving angel. I have never been this happy before, and that’s an absolute fact. Even the guys can hear the sudden, and rather miraculous, change in my tone of voice. Your effect on me is that obvious. And to think I never thought I’d see the day when my own saving grace would come to my rescue. Nikki,” his eyes never didn’t wander an inch away from hers, “I love you.” Nikki’s pulse pounded uncontrollably now. Joy stirred in her, healing nearly every past wound and scar inflicted upon her heart. Inside Nikki, there was definitely opposition against Ryan’s words. But, this feeling is so…so…TOO liberating. Dozens of guys told Nikki that they loved her, which made her heart soar at the time. But this…this was SOOOO much more than making her heart soar. Ryan’s words of affection were HEALING her. It was safe to say that she never felt like this in all her life. Nikki leaned in close enough for their foreheads to touch, “And you have absolutely no idea how much I dearly love you too, Ry. Thank you for healing my bruised and pessimistic heart.” The two slowly moved closer and closer towards each other; finally, they kissed as gently as the rain that was falling all around them when they first met on Nikki’s front porch. Nikki didn’t want to let go of Ryan, nor could she. This had to be one of the most blessed, joyous moments she ever encountered, and Ryan was beyond ecstatic to have Nikki in his arms at last. But suddenly, someone standing in the aisle cleared their throat, rudely disturbing the couple’s privacy. With his arm still around Nikki, both Ryan and Nikki looked up at the person standing above them. Ryan gasped loudly as his eyes grew wide, but Nikki couldn’t get a good look at the person. The stranger’s voice was filled with surprise, “Ry?!! Ryan Kelly?!!” Nikki was bewildered when she heard the distress in the stranger’s voice, as if they were being betrayed. But that wasn’t the worst part…the voice was female.

Here's an update for all you sweethearts who are waiting to see who this mystery woman is...my personal opinion is that, well, I don't like her. Let me know yours Enjoy, everyone! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nikki craned her neck to see who it was, while Ryan simply stared at the dazzling, stunning, elegant woman standing in the aisle. She was wear a short silk dress and matching red high heels. She had thick, healthy brunette hair that reached down to her waist in rich, curly locks. Her eyes were a sparkling deep green surrounded by long, full lashes and shapely eyebrows. She was totally in shape; her face was rounded and seemed perfectly flawless. Surely this woman had to be some kind of model. She certainly was attractive, but Nikki wasn’t one to get jealous over looks. Unfortunately, Nikki’s pessimistic side got the best of her as soon as she heard the woman’s voice, immediately making her assume that she knew what was going on between the woman and Ryan. “How….how could…could he be so…so…so…such a jerk! I knew it!!! I knew I wasn’t doing the right thing! What were you THINKING, Nikki?!!! Falling for RYAN KELLY?!! HA!!! He’s SOOOO out of your league! And you know how THOSE kinds of guys are towards you….yup…that’s right…JERKS!!!!! YOU IDIOT!!! Now YOU’RE going to be the one to pay…AGAIN!!!” But this didn’t make Nikki feel like crying. In fact, it made her feel just the opposite of crying; she was FURIOUS, and that word itself was a mere understatement. Finally the women began to speak up, “Ryan…I don’t…I don’t understand. What are you doing here?” Ryan snapped out of his shock, “Cynthia Meyers, you’re asking ME what I’M doing here?!” His voice sounded scolding, but Nikki didn’t want to believe that it was anything other than what she thought it was…she knew that, deep down, Ryan had betrayed her, humiliated her, and broke her heart in two just like every other stupid guy she was ever romantically involved with. This, however, was a record for the shortest heartbreaking relationship she ever had. That made the pain cut even deeper into her chest. “Well, Ryan,” Cynthia ignored his hostile tone and used her alluring one, “I was visiting New York City with an old friend of mine who lives out in Wyoming. She told me that she needed a getaway from the rural country life and invited me to join her.” She gave Ryan an attempted, innocently sweet smile. Ryan looked all the more furious, “Really? Well, I hope you had a good time,” sarcasm dripped from his voice, “Now, care to tell me WHY you bothered the two of us?” Nikki couldn’t hold in her anger much longer; she jerked herself away from Ryan’s arm and leaned towards the small airplane window, stuffing her ears with her iPod. Ryan looked at her with a severely pained expression, but turned back to Cynthia, anxiously praying and waiting for her to leave. Cynthia didn’t take her piercing eyes off of Ryan, “Ry, really…must you be so..” “Rude? Yes.” Cynthia giggled and leaned in closer towards Ryan. Ryan seriously wanted to run away right then, “I was going to say charming.” Ryan’s stare grew colder and colder, but sadly Nikki didn’t see his expression, “Oh, well, my apologies Ms. Meyers. You obviously misunderstood my very obvious feelings towards you.” She gasped, “Come now, Ry…you can’t deny OBVIOUS feelings. You know you love—“ “Okay, this is enough, Cynthia.” Nikki bitterly interrupted. She wasn’t one to tolerate obnoxiousness for long, “What are you doing here, and why are you harassing Ryan?” Cynthia raised her eyebrows at Nikki in vexation, “Geez, Ry, where’d you pick this chick up? In one of the several alleyways of Manhattan?” Ryan wasn’t about to let anyone insult Nikki that way, “Listen, Cynthia. You’ve pushed this too far. Go now or else I’m calling security for harassment.” Cynthia’s expression was extremely smug, “Fine. But, to answer your question princess, I’m his girlfriend who he’s pretending not to know because you’re here.” With that, Cynthia quickly planted a kiss on Ryan’s cheek and winked at him as she scurried down the aisle to take her seat. Nikki’s jaw dropped in shock. Cynthia had just proved everything Nikki assumed was true about Ryan. Of course, she didn’t know who to believe, but she was still stubborn in her thinking nonetheless. Ryan swiftly turned to face Nikki, pain and frustration swathed his beautiful face, “Nik, I’m so sorry…Can you forgive me?” Nikki just glared at Ryan, “No, Ry.” That utterly shocked Ryan, but more so, it hurt him to the limits, “Wha---??!! Nik, please, just let me—“ “No explanations, Ry, because frankly, I don’t care to know. Now I understand why you held back on kissing me in the park when I skipped a day of work for you, and why you hesitated to tell me that you loved me while we were waiting in the airport lobby. It was because you knew you’d be hurting another girl who stole your heart first. You just wanted a fling! The REAL question to ask though, Ry, is why? Why must you be untrue and hurt everyone in the situation, including yourself? You let yourself fall for little unworthy me, and tried to cover the tracks when your Cynthia confronted you. I have to admit, she’s most definitely obnoxious and sarcastic, but that makes her all the more fit for YOU. I’ve been in situations such as this WAY too many times, Ry. They ALWAYS follow the same pattern. You’re going to defend yourself, I’ll end up feeling sorry for you, and we keep our romance up until your first girl threatens to leave. That’s when you realize who you ACTUALLY love. So, now that we have our emotions situated and settled, let’s just TRY to fly to Ireland in peace and happiness.” Nikki truly did put the knifepoint to Ryan’s gentle heart now, pricking it open slowly and excruciatingly, “Nik…I’m begging you, please—“ Nikki was positive that she saw a tear roll down Ryan’s paled cheek, so she hastily turned away to gaze out the window, stuffing her ears with her iPod headphones once more so she could make her temporary mental escape. Ryan blinked and wiped his cheek as he continued to stare in hopelessness at lovely Nikki. He gave a wholly discouraging sigh. How was he going to win back Nikki’s heart? As far as Ryan could tell, her stubbornness was too solid to penetrate. “Hopefully Chloe will be able to help…after all, Nik is her other half.” Ryan was a persistent person, too; he wasn’t about to give up so quickly on the woman he knew was his life's true love.

Nikki didn’t sleep at all for the few hours they spent flying, and neither did Ryan. The two never said a word after their harsh discussion. Nikki was hoping that the silence between her and Ryan wouldn’t cease to exist. It would be all the harder for her to push him out of her life if she was forced to speak to him. A few hours ago, she saw Ryan as the potential love of her life, but now…she looked at him with the same defensive wit that Elizabeth Bennett showed toward Mr. Darcy in Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, which was one of Nikki’s most favored books. She adored Elizabeth because she could easily relate to her. Nikki was happy when the pilot announced that they were landing; the plane was getting stifling and uncomfortable, besides the fact that sitting next to Ryan in silence was dramatically awkward. Ryan could no longer help himself, he had to speak up, “Did you enjoy the flight Nik? Got any rest?” Nikki tried her best to give Ryan a blank side glance, despite the aching pain she felt in her bleeding heart, “It was fine, and no, I didn’t.” “Well, you should’ve slept sweetheart…you need—“ “It’s fine Ry,” Nikki interrupted, “I can take care of myself and I know my needs.” Ryan just looked at her with that same pained expression he gave her a few hours ago. Nikki rested her chin on her soft, cold hand; she surveyed the hills, meadows, towns, and cities of Ireland with wonder. They were truly as beautiful as she dreamed. She certainly wasn’t about to let Ryan take the joy out of her sightseeing. She always wanted to come here, as here she was, which was an absolute dream come true. When they made their safe descent, the aisles crowded with bustling folks moving towards the exit. Ryan made an involuntary gesture to kindly hold Nikki’s hand, but stopped when he remembered how everything had changed so suddenly. Nikki glanced up inconspicuously at Ryan and tucked her hand into her jacket pocket. Ryan took down their carryon luggage and handed Nikki hers without question. Quietly and quickly, the couple made their way down the aircraft and into the busy Irish airport. It didn’t seem completely different than America to Nikki, but she guessed that was because she had studied Irish culture so intensely. They immediately set off to the luggage pickup and waited in silence for a few minutes until Ryan picked up both their bags. “Hang on a second, Nik. I need to call Keith and make sure he’s here and knows where to pick us up.” “ ‘Kay, take your time.” Meanwhile, Nikki skimmed around her surroundings. The airport was quite small, but filled. There were many different types of people all around her. There were grandparents walking in anticipation towards their grandchildren with open arms and wide smiles, mothers cooing and worrying over their little children, fathers leading their sweet families through the airport with glimmering smiles and strong hands, but there was one couple that caught Nikki’s special attention. It was a girl her age embracing a tall, decently handsome red-haired man. Nikki could tell by merely the shimmer in their eyes that they wouldn’t let anything stand in the way of their love for each other. There was an apparent and amazingly strong bond between the adorable couple. “If only…” Nikki wished for a moment that she was in that girl’s position. At least she would know for sure that she had her life’s companion. A hand on her shoulder disrupted Nikki’s dreaming, “Nik, Keith’s waiting outside for us. Are you ready?” Ryan tried his absolute hardest to smile at her. Nikki nodded and picked up her bag while Ryan took her heavier piece of luggage. The doors automatically swished open and instantly Nikki deeply inhaled the fresh Irish air, which was by far so much better than New York’s polluted air supply. It felt good to be out of the clustered city for a few weeks. Change was decent, at least in this case. She still kept her distance from Ryan, but was trying her best to enjoy the atmosphere around her without feeling too much pain. “RYAN!!!!!! IS THAT ACTUALLY YOU?!!” At once, golden-haired, energetic, and tremendously attractive Keith ran to tackle Ryan with a huge bear hug, “Geez, haven’t seen you for two months, Ry!!! Chloe and I have been missing you. We even have a surprise for you…and well, Paul, Damian, and George as well.” Keith laughed and grinned from ear to ear. Nikki wished she had a little piece of Chloe’s happiness. Keith shot a glance at Nikki, who was heading towards him and Ryan, “Ryan, you have yet to introduce me to Nikki.” Keith teased Ryan, obviously not yet realizing the grief between the two. Keith gave Nikki a friendly, warmhearted hug, “Welcome to Ireland, lassie! I’ve heard so much about you from Ryan. He couldn’t stop talking about you.” Keith paused and winked at Ryan. Ryan just rolled his eyes in aggravation. “You like to be called Nik, I guess?” Nikki faintly smiled up at Keith. His eyes were simply breathtaking, “Yes, I do. Thanks for asking, Keith.” “I really hope you love your time spent here, Nik. Ireland is an enchanting country, and you seem like the Irish lass my wife, Chloe, turned out to be. In fact, Ry told me that your Chlo’s exact twin.” Keith chuckled with delight, “She can barely wait to meet you. So, before we keep her waiting for long, let’s get going, shall we?” “Yes, I agree Keith. It’s time we’ve left this clustered airport.” Keith’s expression changed from jovial to puzzled, “Ry…is everything alright? You seem…more hostile than usual.” The two men lifted the luggage into the trunk while Nikki hopped into the car and buckled up. “You’ve been drinking, haven’t you Keith?” Ryan grunted as he lifted a heavy bag into the trunk, then put a hand on Keith’s shoulder, “In case you haven’t noticed, alcohol does things to YOU that it does to no one else.” Keith and Ryan laughed heartily, “You know Ry, married men don’t drink when their wife tells them not to.” “HA! Like that stops YOU.” Keith pushed Ryan over to the passenger side of the car, “Oh, hush up and get in the car, Dopey the dwarf.” “That’s a sad insult, Keith.” “It’s the initiative that counts, Ry.” “Uh-huh...in Harkin world.” The two good friends laughed once more, until they both realized Nikki’s concentrated silence. Keith made an attempt to lighten her mood, “So, Nik, did Ry here behave like a good boy, or will I have to stick him in the bear trap again?” She gave Keith her same faint smile, “He was….decent.” Keith was certainly puzzled this time because, at Nikki’s response to his question, Ryan cringed slightly. The sadness of reality returned to him, torturing him internally. Keith knew it was best not to ask anyone questions publicly, but he would make his best attempt to delve into the strife between Ryan and Nikki any private chance he got. The car ride to the Harkins’ home was quiet and uneventful, though the awkward silence pierced anxiety and misery into all three of their hearts. Finally, they reach the beautiful, whitewashed, two story home, which was covered with green vines and two giant columns at the front of the house. The lot was filled with a variety of vegetable plants and flowers. It was simply stunning. Keith and Ryan picked up the heavy luggage, leaving Nikki to continue carrying her small carryon. But before Keith could knock or ring the doorbell, the huge red front doors swung open and out stepped a statuesque, pleasingly fair Chloe Harkin. Nikki could see how Chloe deserved such a man as Keith; it seemed, judging by Chloe’s first impression, that no guy was actually in her league. Nikki’s major problem was that she couldn’t see her own unique and stunning beauty. Since Ryan hadn’t visited for two months though, it was apparent by his facial expression what Keith’s surprise was. Aside from her beauty, Chloe was glowing with pregnancy, “RY!!!! After all this time, young man!!! You need to visit us more often!!!” Chloe couldn’t stop her giggling as Ryan raced up to her and embraced her, “Aw, Chlo, you and your overbearing consideration.” Chloe immediately let go of him and smacked Ryan on the back of the head, “Ow…I see pregnancy does the same things that alcohol does to Keith.” “Still the same old Ryan.” Chloe rubbed the back of his head and kissed it softly. Keith lifted her off her feet and spun her around, “That’s the longest time I’ve been away from you since you’ve been pregnant, darling.” Keith and Chloe laughed as he set her back onto her feet, “I hope you kept yourself out of trouble…” Chloe put her hand on her stomach and rolled her eyes, “Yes, because you told me too.” She smiled and gave him a quick kiss, then turned to Nikki. Chloe couldn’t help herself, she had to hug Nikki immediately. “Hello there, Nik, my gorgeous twin!!!” Chloe somehow made Nikki laugh at that, “Why, hello to you too Chlo.” “C’mon, we have so much to talk about!” Chloe squealed with delight as she skipped into the house, leading Nikki but the hand. Nikki was surprisingly feeling much better while she was with Chloe. There was something about her that made her…smile. Maybe it was the similarities she shared with Chloe, which were starting to become more and more apparent. Keith and Ryan set down the bags in the family room and started walking into the kitchen, but Keith grabbed Ryan by the arm, “Ry, hold on a sec…come let’s talk first.” Oh joy, this was just what Ryan wanted…wasn’t it? Wrong, but oh well…he couldn’t ignore Keith’s request. “Okay,” the guys took a seat on the red leather sofa, “what do you want to talk about, Keith?” Keith’s expression turned very serious and he began to whisper, “I want to know what’s going on between you and Nikki. You all seem to positively dread being around each other. I don’t understand, Ry. Three days ago you were falling head over heels for this girl, now there’s just so much pain in the midst of your relationship. What’s going on, Ry?” Ryan sighed and leaned back onto the sofa. He buried his face in his hands and shook his head, “Okay, if you really want to know, Keith.” Ryan explained about the run-in with Cynthia Meyers. Ryan explained every detail of the event, since it barely left his minds. Keith was shocked and outraged at Cynthia’s obnoxious lies, “Cynthia Meyers…the girl who dances for our shows, right?” “Mhmm…” Ryan nodded in shameful agreement, “Oh, Ry, I knew that girl was bad news while you were dating her. Didn’t she start to stalk you after you broke up your relationship with her?” “Ugh, yes! And to think, after these two years, she’s still following me around! I can’t STAND that girl!” “You need to file for a restraining order or something to that extent against her you know, Ry.” Ryan sighed and stared down at the floor, “I know, Keith…but what I’m really worried about is getting Nikki to at least talk to me again. I know for a fact that I REALLY REALLY hurt her, Keith…I’m so ashamed of myself.” Keith put his arm around his good friend, “Ry, breathe. This WILL get better and turn out for the best. Let Chloe talk to her…she’s bound to listen.” “I hope so.” But Ryan knew that, though it was a misunderstanding, it would probably take years of convincing to get Nikki to listen to someone who hurt her. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- More coming soon! Hope you all like it so far!!

So sorry that this update took so long, everyone! I've had a very busy week and some writer's block. Thank you, aliblast! <3 Hope you all enjoy this update. More to come by tomorrow evening! I promise!!! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “So, Nik…” Chloe began, trying to break through the awkward silence between them, “How did you end up meeting Ry? All he told Keith and I was that it was an ‘unexpected yet pleasant surprise.’” Nikki looked up from the warm red mug she was holding in her hands, trying to convince Chloe that everything on her insides didn’t want to burst out into anger and humiliation, “It…certainly was a surprise. He showed up on my front porch in the pouring rain and asked for my help with finding someone. Apparently, that someone was me.” There was a bit of remorse in Nikki’s voice when she ended her sentence. Chloe looked puzzled, “Didn’t you like the idea of him showing up at your doorstep, Nik?” Chloe placed her manicured hand on Nikki’s and squeezed it tightly. Nikki knew the answer Chloe was looking for, but she couldn’t lie about her true thoughts on the topic. Nikki bit her bottom lip in cluelessness, “Honestly Chlo, no. I didn’t. I’m thrilled that it worked out romantically for you and Keith, but that won’t ALWAYS be the case with the Celtic Thunder guys. Not everyone can have a real life fairytale love story, so count yourself as blessed. There’s no..” Nikki struggled on her words, “nothing, nothing romantic between Ryan and I. We’re friends and that’s that, so please Chlo, don’t try to talk me into anything because it simply won’t work.” Chloe blinked in shock and dismay at Nikki’s surprising reaction and sighed, “Okay, Nik, I won’t force you to have feelings that you really don’t have, nor WANT to have. Just, go easy on Ry, okay? He’s not such a tough cookie as people believe. If you gave him a chance…” Nikki eyed her suspiciously, “Chloe.” Chloe grinned sheepishly, “Fine. I’ll stop.” The two smiled as best as they could, trying to skip past the unfulfilling conversation. “So, tell me about the rest of Celtic Thunder, Chlo. I need insight on them so I know their style.” “You need THAT to make CLOTHES? Gosh, do you also need a degree in psychology?” Nikki chuckled, “No, but that would probably help in some way.” Chloe gazed off into the distance as she tried to think about the most dominant parts of the other guys’ personalities, “Well, Damian is pretty much your average teenage boy, only he’s handsome, smart, talented, and polite. Paul is the ‘dashing Romeo.’ And George is the powerfully strong, yet gently loving father guy.” “Hmmm…okay. Great. This is just the stuff I was hoping to get.” Nikki scribbled down a few more notes onto her yellow writing pad and gleamed up at Chloe. Ryan had finally begun to edge off her mind, until he walked into the room with Keith of course. Keith bowed playfully as he entered the kitchen, “How are you ladies enjoying the evening? Have you had enough girl talk, or shall we leave you here to chat till dawn?” Chloe shoved Keith’s shoulder, taking his hand while he helped her up from the chair. “Ugh, the only downside to being pregnant is the fact that you actually feel like an old young person.” Ryan cocked his head to the side, “Um…I’ll remember that for when I’m pregnant.” Keith punched Ryan on the arm, “Don’t make fun of a pregnant woman, Ry, or else you’ll REALLY lose your manhood.” “And my much needed appendages.” Ryan slowly turned to face down at Nikki, who was yet again avoiding looking in his direction, “So Nik, ready to leave?” Nikki looked up at him politely for a few seconds and then turned to face Keith and Chloe, “Yes, Ry.” Ryan’s face suddenly brightened, “R-rrrrr-eally? Great, let’s get going then.” Nikki wondered why he perked up so quickly. She gave Chloe and nervous glance, and Chloe mouthed out silently, “He thinks you’re still taking his offer to stay at his place.” Nikki finally understood, “Uh, Ry,” He looked at her with twinkling eyes, “Yes, Nik?” Nikki breathed in and told herself a hundred times over in her head that she wasn’t intentionally trying to hurt him, “I’m not staying with you. I’m going to check into a nearby hotel.” Ryan’s expression dropped, though he tried his absolute best to hide it. He felt completely embarrassed, and even THAT was an understatement. “Oh, uh, um…” There was a long pause and he cleared his throat, “Okay then, if that’s what you want. I’ll call a separate cab for you.” Nikki reached to stop him but drew back, as though he were poisonous to her, “I can still ride with you.” Ryan’s lips tightened ever so slightly, “I don’t think that is a good idea,” he said through his teeth. He had never encountered someone so stubborn. The sadness was overwhelming him because he never dreamed about hurting Nikki. However, Nikki just wasn’t going to buy it. Chloe walked over to Nikki and gave her an extremely loving embrace, “It’ll be alright, dear. Despite what you believe is the truth, I know the actual reality of it all. Just wait and see,” Chloe whispered before she kissed Nikki on the forehead and headed up the staircase. Nikki kept watch out the window for lack of anything better to do. She didn’t want to leave Nikki or Keith, but Ryan was still here, the very person she was trying so hard to ignore but couldn’t. Within ten minutes, the two cabs arrived and Nikki picked up her luggage and hauled it out the large front door. The driver took the bags from her and threw it into the trunk. Halfway into the car, Nikki heard someone shout out her name. She looked in front and there stood Ryan, waving and evening blowing a kiss to her. Nikki felt a strange, and rather strong, urge to blow a kiss back to him, but she restrained herself at once. The driver sped off into the silence of the calm Irish night. She looked up at the twinkling stars and glistening moon, all perfectly serene and hopeful. Thoughts of her harsh hostility towards Ryan attempted to fill her mind, “No, no, no Nikki Collins. NO. He hurt me.” A tear trickled down her already make-up smeared cheek, “He crucified my love for him. I won’t ever…” But she simply couldn’t say the rest of that sentence; the same urge she had to show affection towards Ryan was restricting her from hating him. But…why?

Here's even more for y'all...I hope you guys are enjoying it! Thank you oh-so-much for reading!!! Ugh, Nik is SO stubborn! I wish she'd see how blessed she is...lol. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nikki finally reached her hotel room, practically drowning with exhaustion. She’d never been on such a long plane ride, but she was sure the unpleasant events throughout the day were making her uncomfortable. Well, at least she was away from Ryan, and that eased her spirits a bit. The hotel she chose to stay in was quaint, yet had its class as well. There were crystal chandeliers hanging from the ceiling, cream marble flooring, dark green wallpaper with a Celtic design covered the walls, and there was a medium sized water fountain in the middle of the foyer. All in all, the place had its charm, and it allured Nikki. She quickly checked in and lugged her bags into the elevator. When she made it up to level four, she slowly walked down the hallway scanning the little golden plates for her room number. “Four-hundred fifteen; well, let’s hope this room doesn’t have a terrible view…or anything to that extent.” Nikki didn’t appreciate vile surroundings, and she most definitely didn’t want to regret staying in a hotel. She unlocked the door and switched the lights on. Nikki gasped, “Wow, how beautiful.” The room naturally looked Irish, overlooking a quiet town that surrounded a rather large lake. Apparently, this was the best decision she’d make while staying in Ireland. Satisfied, Nikki plopped her luggage onto the floor and grabbed her bag of toiletries. She’d wanted to take a shower ever since she got off that long flight. Also, she knew that if she didn’t keep herself occupied, thoughts of a certain someone would creep into her head. Yes, she was scared of those thoughts, she’d admit to that…but it wasn’t healthy to convince herself that she needed a relationship with Ryan. Nikki hopped out of the shower in a matter of minutes, briskly pulled a brush through her short blonde hair. She was lucky that her hair was naturally straight, or else it would torture her more than it already did. She changed into her long, silky red nightgown and sprawled out on the bed in a relaxed position. Nikki couldn’t go to sleep yet, she wasn’t tired. But she HAD to keep herself busy. She tried her best to brainstorm productive things to do. After a minute or two, it came down to watching TV. There was literally nothing else to do, so she clicked the remote and searched the channels to find something decent to watch. There was a documentary on Celtic mythology on the History Channel, which was one of Nikki’s favorite topics of study. She was positive that she’d learn something enlightening and interesting, so she resolved to listen in. A calm half-an-hour edged by while Nikki was having a great time, but unexpectedly it was interrupted by a soft knock on her room door. Nikki perked her head up and curiously wondered who it could be. She didn’t tell Chloe, Keith, nor Ryan where she was staying, so she was pretty sure that it couldn’t be either of them. Nikki rolled off the bed and onto her feet and tiptoed towards the door. She stood on her toes to look through the peep-hole in her door; she couldn’t help but gasp in pure shock, more shock than she thought endurable. It was Ryan. Nikki turned with her back on the door, sweat compiling on her forehead. What should she do? What should she SAY?!! Ryan knocked again, and Nikki felt the pulse of his knocking vibrating through her back. That only made her all the more nervous, reminding her just how close Ryan was to her once again, and just how much she didn’t want to avoid him. “Nik…Nik, love, please. Just, give me one chance, just sixty seconds to explain myself.” Nikki didn’t answer him. Another moment went by, “Nik. Won’t you at least tell me to go away, if that’s what you really want?” “Go away!” Nikki yelled, “I don’t want to talk to you, nor see you.” All went dead silent. Nikki was sure she heard Ryan sigh, “Okay, Nik. Take care. See you tomorrow, unless you choose not to show up on account of me.” Nikki was baffled; how did he know where she was staying?! The question was beyond her. Then, before she heard Ryan’s heavy footsteps walk away, Nikki felt something slide underneath her left foot. She looked down and saw that it was a dainty white envelope addressed to her in Ryan’s handwriting. She bent down and picked it up, examining it. There was a note inside, but also something else, something perfectly round and solid. Nikki tore the envelope open and sat on the floor contemplating whether or not she should read the note. She was still very scared about allowing herself to fall in love with Ryan, so she decided not to read it at that particular moment. She took the note, folded it in half, and slipped it into her purse. Then, she carefully reached for the small round object that was lying at the bottom of the envelope. She pulled it out and cocked her head to the side in confusion. It was a ring, but not an engagement ring. It had two small hands holding a heart with a crown on the top of it. The heart was made of a gorgeous, shimmering red ruby. Nikki admired its unique, pristine beauty; she never saw a ring like this before. She guessed it was Irish, and immediately wondered if it stood for anything. With curiosity getting the best of her, Nikki popped open her laptop and opened up the search engine in her internet browser. She searched for information on Irish rings, and the first link that showed was for something called a Claddagh ring. Nikki clicked on the link and, sure enough, the picture of the Claddagh ring matched the ring Ryan gave to her. Nikki scrolled down to see the meaning of it. It was a sign of either being romantically in love, or lacking thereof. Nikki shut down her computer and simply stared at the beautiful piece of jewelry. It was stunningly admirable, but if she accepted this ring, Ryan would forever be a staunch romantic interest to her. She had no choice, she had to give the ring back to Ryan for her own protection. Nikki groaned loudly, “Why couldn’t these situations be easy for once?” She shook her head and gazed up at the ceiling; she needed some peace. She decided to work on her some of her Celtic Thunder designs, working until 3 AM, and running from her love for Ryan 24/7. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- More to come soon! Thank you all bunches for reading!

YAY!!! Finals are done, so I can get back to my writing!!! For my beloved Nikki and everyone who's reading this! Thank you ALL for reading!!! Enjoy!!! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It was 10AM the next morning. Nikki hadn’t slept well for the six hours she did manage to fall asleep. She yawned, and slowly tried to roll off the bed, but ending up thumping onto the floor with a gasp. “OUCH! Geez, this early and I’ve already had an attack of killer clumsiness…” Nikki laughed at herself and hopped off the floor. She had to hurry and dress before it got any later. She wasn’t sure how Irish people took to tardiness, and she certainly didn’t want to test anyone’s patience. Quickly, Nikki grabbed her purse and sketchbook, ran down the stairways to get some exercise, and grabbed a cup of coffee from the tiny hotel pub before she rushed out the doors and into a taxi. Within minutes, Nikki reached the exquisitely built, white marble auditorium where the Celtic Thunder rehearsals were always held. Nikki wanted to make a memorable impression on Sharon, so she perked up, put on her dazzling smile, and stepped lightly through the immense, golden-framed glass doors. She felt as though she had walked into the lobby of her old private school. The carpet was a deep velvet red, a mahogany desk sat in the right hand corner of the lobby, the walls were filled with plaques and colored a plain yet beautiful cream, and an enormous glittering chandelier was hanging from the flower-patterned ceiling. Nikki walked down the corridor that led to the main auditorium, stopping at the doors. She stood on her toes to see through the small windows into the room, just to be sure they were in there. Sure enough, the guys were rehearsing “Take Me Home” on the stage with Sharon watching them from the front row. The rest of the cast and crew were either bustling to and fro in preparation or watching the group practice. Nikki waited until the song was over with. She gulped what seemed like a brick down her throat, her hand shaking nervously as she pushed open the door. In an instant, Nikki heard a cry of joy, “Nik!” She looked up bewildered; it was Chloe. She came skipping down the long aisle to Nikki with a huge smile on her face. She was dressed in a flowing green dress, similar to what the other dancers were wearing. Chloe grabbed Nikki lovingly, and Nikki in return gave Chloe a joyous smile. “Wow, Chlo…you certainly don’t act like any regular pregnant woman.” Nikki winked at her, making Chloe giggle, “I know, Nik. It surprised me, because Sharon thought that, for one last show, I could perform with Keith since I’m not too far ahead in my pregnancy as yet. I’m so excited!” “Great! So I can see you attempt to perform and, if I’m lucky, mess up.” They both laughed heartily, “And here I thought you were a sweetheart!” Sharon called out to Nikki, interrupting her “uplifting” conversation with Chloe, “Nikki, dear! Why, it’s about time we’ve met!” She gently clutched Nikki in a maternal embrace. Sharon was definitely the mother figure over Celtic Thunder, no doubt about that whatsoever. “So, are you here to work on your sketches hon?” Nikki nodded, smiling as always, and flipped through her sketchbook to the Celtic Thunder portion, “I hope you like what you see so far, Ms. Sharon. I haven’t exactly seen them on stage as yet, so I had to guess what would be most comfortable for them.” Sharon couldn’t help bust gasp as she flipped through the thirty designs Nikki created. Nikki twisted her purity ring again and again as she awaited Sharon’s approval. “Darling…this is. Oh, INCREDIBLE! I never knew you had such tremendously rare talent! If you ever feel like quitting your current job, you’re already accepted here.” Sharon winked at blushing, gleaming Nikki, “I’m enthralled that you’re this pleased, Ms. Sharon. If it’s okay, I’d like to stay and draw up some more sketches for the group as I see them in action.” “Of course, dear! Stay all day, if you’d like! You’ll feel right at home here. I have a desk set up in the back for you. Come with me, Nikki.” Sharon led Nikki to a wooden receptionist’s desk in the back of the room, “Thank you so much. I’ll be much more productive working visually than working with my imagination alone.” Nikki laughed, “Anytime, dear.” Sharon gave Nikki’s shoulder a squeeze and walked back to the front stage. Nikki got herself settled in the desk, but her peace was soon disrupted by approaching footsteps. Nikki guessed who it was, and knew she still HAD to look up. Slowly, she tilted her head upwards and glanced at face on her visitor, but it was several visitors actually. Led by Keith, Chloe, and Ryan, Paul, Damian and George all stared at Nikki with nothing but smiling and warm dispositions. Chloe walked over to Nikki and held her hand out to her, helping her up, “Nik, meet the vocalists of Celtic Thunder, who have been, dare I say, DYING to meet your lovely self!” Slightly embarrassed, Nikki offered back a warm smile to them all, including Ryan, “It really is quite wonderful to meet you all. I know many ladies would give anything to be in my position right now.” All of them laughed at that, “Welcome to Ireland, Nikki!” Paul exclaimed with a great amount of excitement. He charmingly took her dainty hand into his and kissed it. Paul looked up at her with gazing eyes, but George pulled him back by the arm, “Ay, Paul! Would you save the failed Romeo attempt for the swooning fan girls, eh? Welcome to Ireland, lass! Enjoying your stay, I trust?” He embraced Nikki and fuzzled her straight blonde hair, breaking her embarrassment, “I am, George, thank you.” Damian also approached her with planting a soft kiss on her hand, “Welcome to Ireland, Nik. We don’t get to see such beautiful American lasses around this old country such as you too often. I hope we see you around here often, if not daily.” “I definitely hope so also, Damian. Thank you.” “So, Nik,” began Keith, “have you come to watch us fail at dancing on stage, or are you here to work?” Nikki laughed slightly, “Well, I’m hoping that your failed attempts will help me understand what you all will be comfortable wearing while performing, which is why I’m here.” Paul, doing what Paul always does, suddenly interjected, “I don’t by that, lassie. I know the exact reason why you’re here…you’ve come to blackmail Celtic Thunder, so all the fans could see our sad attempts at the perfection we try to obtain on stage. Oh no, I’m going to end up as a stand-up comedian instead of a professional singer!” Nikki glared at Paul in absolute confusion, “Uh, no Paul, search me if you want, but I have no camera or video recorder at all.” “Sureee.” “Is he always this…um, suspicious?” Keith rolled his eyes and whispered to Nikki, “He’s the clown out of all of us.” “I heard that, blondie. Come here and I’ll show you the ugly side of a clown, besides the horrible face paint.” The rest of the guys took off to stop the ridiculously funny “argument” between Keith and Paul, but Chloe remained next to Nikki, “Hey, Nik…do you feel like talking about anything?” Nikki tensed, “I know what you’re feeling behind your glamorously smiling façade, Nik, and you can’t hide that from me.” Nikki sighed, “You know about Ryan’s surprise visit to me, don’t you?” Chloe was befuddled, “No…wait…he VISITED you?! How’d he know,” “where I was staying? I don’t know, in fact, I was actually hoping that either you or Keith knew the answer to that.” Chloe shook her head repeatedly, “No clue, sweetheart. But, besides that, what did he say, what did he do? Did you listen to what he had to say?” Nikki looked at her feet. Chloe sighed, “I knew you wouldn’t have.” There was a long pause, then Nikki finally spoke up, “He left an envelope under my room door with a note inside, but I didn’t read it,” “Why?!” “Because, I just didn’t feel like reading it, and I was more curious as to what else was in the envelope.” Chloe leaned closer to Nikki with wide, suspicious eyes, “There was also a Claddagh ring inside. At first, I didn’t know its name, but I researched it on the internet and found its meaning.” Chloe nearly fell out of her chair, “You’ve got to be joking…Nik, that’s wonderful! Why aren’t you wearing it?” Nikki sighed in frustration, “Because Chlo, I know you think I should just give Ryan a chance, but I CANNOT do that, I can’t risk jeopardizing my life and career again.” Chloe saw the depression in Nikki’s eyes, and gave her a gentle hug, “I understand, Nik. I’m sorry for being so pushy. This is YOUR decision, not my own. You need to do what you deem best.” Nikki patted Chloe’s hand affectionately, “It’s alright, Chloe. No harm done.” “Well, I wish I could talk with you some more, Nik, but I have to get back on stage. Would you like to do lunch with me around 2 o’clock?” Nikki grinned delighted, “Of course.” “Yay, great!” With that, Chloe gracefully made her way to the stage again. Nikki began to simply doodle on the blank page of her sketchbook, trying her best to gain focus on her work. She quickly sketched out a new dress for Chloe, one that was silky with much room to move. She even added a few features in there so it would be unique to her, such as making it light blue, Chloe’s favorite color. Then, right after Keith’s song, Sharon called Ryan on stage to practice “Bad Bad Leroy Brown.” The music began, and Ryan’s sweet, melodious voice rang out through the entire seating area. Nikki didn’t sketch, but instead traced Ryan’s every move with her eyes. He had to play a “bad guy” in this song, which would allow Nikki to see into much of Ryan’s true inner character, so she thought. Nikki believed that if Ryan could pull off playing a bad guy really well, then he is truly wicked like all the other guys she dated. But, if he let some sweetness shine through, then he is the amazingly wonderful man Chloe vouched for. Ryan didn’t realize Nikki was watching him so intently, but she was still splattered all over his mind. This was strange to him, because, oddly enough, this had never truly happened to him when he met an attractive girl. But Nikki was more than attractive to him, she was…almost unrealistic, in the sense that she was unlike any other sweet girl he’d seen. She was literally an angel, he actually convinced himself to believe that. Nikki was amazed at how talented Ryan was; he was as elegant on stage as he was offstage. But, more than that, Ryan wasn’t allowing the bad boy atmosphere to get to his head. He was maintaining his gentleman spirit. Maybe Chloe WAS right…she SHOULD listen to what Ryan has to say, because it probably is the truth. Nikki already made it a primary mental note to listen to his explanation as soon as he was available to chat. However, nearing the end of the song, something violently took hold of Nikki, in a number of ways. Out came a gorgeous, female red-haired Irish dancer. She flitted about the stage effortlessly, with Ryan watching her. She danced her way into Ryan’s strong arms, and he tightened his grip on her. He looked deeply into her eyes with what seemed to be more than a “feigned” love. Suddenly, Nikki realized where she had once seen this girl. It was the same girl who approached Ryan on the plane, and there she was, spinning around in Ryan’s arms. Nikki didn’t know how to feel; a range of emotions raged throughout her entire body. She felt jealous, aggravated, infuriated, betrayed, and wasted. Just when the song had ended, Nikki briskly collected her belongings and shoved them harshly into her bag. Snatching up her sketchbook, Nikki made her way towards the exit, nearly running out of the building. Apparently though, she was not quick enough. A rough hand tenderly took hold of Nikki’s small wrist. She swung her head back to see who was restraining her. It was Ryan, standing there with an apologetic expression on his beautifully angled face. Nikki turned her face away from his and writhed, trying her absolute best to get away from him. At that moment, he disgusted her, to say the least, “Let me go, Ryan! Get away from me!” He gave a loud, exasperated sigh, “I will, Nikki, but PLEASE answer this one question for me.” “What?!” Nikki nearly yelled, startling Ryan. “Why are you doing this to me?” Ryan whispered. Nikki glared as deep as she could into his dark brown eyes, “Because Ryan, you’re just like all the other guys who seem to be attracted to me, a two timing jerk.” Nikki reached into the pocket of her leather purse and pulled out the ring Ryan gave to her, setting it in the palm of his hand. He glanced down at it, helpless, then back at Nikki with a pained expression, “Nik,” “Goodbye, Ryan.” Nikki took two steps away from him, then turned her back and sprinted down the hallway and out the front doors. Ryan stood stagnant where Nikki had left him, clutching the ring tightly, with one huge question dominating his mind: would he ever see Nikki again? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- More to come soon!

Enjoying it so far? If you have any ideas/suggestions, please let me know! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- With tears streaming down her lovely plump cheeks in the back seat of the speeding taxi, Nikki scorned herself for ever coming to Ireland. Back at the Celtic Thunder rehearsal, she heard her heart spilt in two, something she was trying to avoid. She wiped her face with her palms aggressively as she tried to block out her emotions. Her theory to life was if you don’t think about the bad things, then you won’t wallow in your egotistical self pity. But this time, it seemed impossible NOT to think about the situation. Nikki looked up desperately at the sparkling Irish night shy, never failing to take her breath away. Why did Ryan Kelly have to ruin everything for her? At the moment, she didn’t feel bad at all for blaming Ryan. She truly did believe he was the cause of all her hurt. If only he left their friendship alone, instead of trying to make it a romance. An awkward vibrating noise began midst Nikki’s thought, catching her attention and dragging her back into reality. She reached into her purse and flipped open her cell phone, not bothering to check who was calling, “He-llo?” She mentally smacked herself when her voice cracked; she knew allowing this circumstance to control her like this was wrong in almost every way possible. “Nik? Are you alright, love?” Nikki froze; it was Tony Jones, her boss. He called her love?! Ugh…What was she supposed to say? “Uh, um, yes, of course Mr. Jo—Tony,” she gave a nervous chuckle, “um, what’s up?” Tony laughed, “Don’t be alarmed about me calling, Nik. I’m a regular person, just like yourself. And I’m just calling to check up on you, making sure you’re safe since I haven’t heard from you in a while.” Nikki blushed, but truly didn’t like him calling her, not at this moment, “That’s very thoughtful of you, Tony, thank you. I’m perfectly fine. My flight was…pleasant too. But, I hope you don’t mind if I come home a bit earlier than scheduled. Apparently, Ms. Sharon was more accepting of my designs than I thought. I left copies of them for her at the rehearsal.” “Of course I have no problem with that, Nik!” Tony seemed a bit more than averagely pleased about that, “Besides, NYC is missing its glorious sunshine spirit now that you’re gone.” “Nah, I’m sure it could do without me for a while.” They both laughed, though Nikki was feigning her happiness. “Well, Nik, I’ll let you get back to whatever you were doing. Please be safe and take care, hun. Come back here anytime you want, preferably soon though.” “Of course, Tony. Bye.” “Bye Nik.” She hung up the phone and let out a deep sigh of pure relief. “I’d better call Sharon and be sure she’s okay with my designs before I leave.” Nikki dialed Sharon’s number, and tried her best to keep the conversation short and sweet. However, she couldn’t help but feel guilt when she heard the disappointment in Sharon’s voice; she really did want Nikki to stay with Celtic Thunder in Ireland. She hung up the phone with one last goodbye, asking Sharon to tell the gang bye for her as well. The taxi stopped in front of her hotel, and Nikki put on her best smile possible as she paid the driver and hopped out the car. She sauntered into the hotel and made her way to the elevators, but stopped suddenly when her stomach growled. Nikki didn’t feel like eating, but her body was telling her otherwise. “Guess I should grab something to eat...that’s better than dying of starvation overnight.” She made her way slowly over to the small hotel pub and sat on the barstool furthest away from seated couples. Nikki played with her ring while glancing at the menu, trying her best not to look at the men and women holding hands and gazing into each other eyes affectionately. She quickly gave the waitress her order, “I have some things to take care of, so if you don’t mind, please hurry with my order.” “Certainly, miss.” She turned to stare at the dark corner wall once more. This was never how she pictured her time would be spent in Ireland. Though she tried to choke back her tears, one stubborn drop flowed down her stained cheek, but before more could escape, she felt a gentle and warm touch on her hand. Nikki spun around abruptly, and she turned to face an old man who took a seat beside Nikki, grinning pleasantly at her, “Don’t be frightened, little lass. I saw you sitting here alone, unlike the other young ladies here. I hope you don’t mind if I join ye.” The man looked like he was around eighty years old. His face was heavy with wrinkles, but his eyes didn’t fail to shine with care and consideration for the world. His accent was most definitely Irish. Still, Nikki was shocked that he came to sit with her, “I don’t mind at all, Mr…?” “Clark Burke, darling. But we can keep it to a first name basis.” He gave her a wink, making Nikki beam, “Well, it’s a pleasure to meet you Mr. Clark. My name is Nikki Collins.” “Ah, so you have some Irish blood in you, eh Nikki? Because you’re last name is Collins, which is an Irish surname.” Nikki stared at Clark thoughtfully, “Really? Huh, I never knew that.” “I’m a blessed man to be sitting next to such a beautiful Irish lass.” He took her hand into his soft, wrinkled one and kissed it. “So, Clark, do you live nearby here?” “As a matter of fact, I do, about half an hour away from this very hotel.” “Really? What are you doing here, then?” Clark chuckled loudly with his velvety base voice, “Ah, we’ll get to that in a moment dear. First of all, I want to know about you.” Nikki rested her chin on her palm and grinned directly at Clark’s welcoming green eyes, “Absolutely! Where would you like to start?” Clark looked up at the spinning ceiling fan, contemplating, “Hmmm, let’s start with why you’re here, and then why you look so distraught.” Nikki looked down, her eyes saddening. Clark noticed her expression change and placed his hand on her back like a father would to his daughter, “We don’t have to talk about anything that may bring you discomfort, Nikki.” Nikki looked into his inviting green eyes once more, this time with glistening tears in hers, “No, no, it’s fine. I’m not a very secretive person unless the situation calls for it.” She straightened up in her seat and sighed calmly, “I’m from New York City in the US, and I came here on a business trip. I work as a fashion designer for the largest clothing designer in New York. About a month ago, my boss assigned me to create some designs for the famous Celtic vocal group, Celtic Thunder.” Nikki nearly shuddered when she remembered the first time she met with Ryan. Clark looked at her wide eyed, “Wow, you met Ireland best kept secret, huh? Lucky lass you are, Nikki.” He laughed and nudged her shoulder; she joined him in laughter, “I guess I am. So, my boss sent me here to finish up my Celtic Thunder project. Now that I’m done, I’ll be heading back to New York first thing tomorrow morning.” Mysteriously, the thought of leaving so soon harshly stung her. Clark didn’t take his soothing eyes off her, “Ah, so is that why you seem so depressed? Sad to leave Ireland, eh?” Nikki began playing with her ring again, “Um, well I am definitely sad about leaving Ireland, obviously, but that’s not the exact reason why I’m feeling so…miserable and frustrated.” Clark seemed puzzled, but suddenly had an epiphany, “Your heart became attached to one of the young men in the group.” Nikki simply stared at him in astonishment, “Clark, are you some psychiatrist, or something to that extent?” Clark threw his head back and bellowed, “Heavens, no child! I’m a retired factory worker, and I happen to know the five lads of Celtic Thunder quite personally. They call me their ‘granddaddy.’” Nikki shook her head, “You know them?! Wow, it is a small world after all.” Clark fuzzled her hair, like George did earlier, “Only because I know George Donaldson very well. He and I have quite a lot in common, you know. I met him while he was strolling down these here Irish streets one morning about a year ago. Since then, the rest of ‘em lads have come to know me as well.” Nikki nodded and beamed with a smile, “But, Nikki dear, what happened? Those lads are such gentlemen…did Ryan wrong you?” “Wait, how’d you know I was….in love….” Nikki cringed at the words, “with Ryan?!” “It was a guess, dear. You seem like the dream girl Ryan has always been looking for.” Nikki tried not to scoff at that, “He did wrong me, Clark. He was already romantically involved with one of Celtic Thunder’s dancers, a red haired young lady, but never told me. He allowed me to fall for him, even when it was wrong.” Clark shook his head, “I know Ryan very well, Nikki, and I can vouch for his character. Ryan is not like that. I’m sure others have told you that already. His stage character is the farthest thing away from his true self. It’s all acting dear, he’s just very good at it. Of course, I don’t know whether or not he is in love with another girl besides yourself, so my lack of evidence can’t prove you wrong. But, if he has offered to explain things, I would suggest that you listen.” Nikki completely disagreed with him, “But how do I know he’s not acting, if he’s a good actor?” “True,” Clark leaned closer to Nikki, “Would you like to know why I come here every week, Nikki?” She nodded yes, “When I was twenty-five, I had begun my third year of factory work. That year, a beyond beautiful young lass named Rebecca became the factory receptionist, and she stole my heart the moment I saw her. But, she heard about my reputation from the other factory girls. I was the most unfaithful, untrustworthy lad in our tiny town. Rebecca tried her hardest to stay away from me, but she loved my company. Eventually, over the course of a few weeks, she grew fondly attached to me, which infuriated a few of the other female factory workers. Rebecca was so gullible then, and believed one girl’s silly story that she was actually romantically involved with me. Rebecca left the factory that same year with a broken heart over something that she wouldn’t let me explain. Thankfully, I had bumped into her in this very pub ten years later and she, surprisingly, was thrilled to see me. That same day, I proposed to her right here in this corner, and she accepted. Since her death four years ago, I’ve been coming here every week to relive the sweetest memories I shared with her.” Clark’s story touched Nikki deeply and made her ponder briefly about her shattering relationship with Ryan. She gave Clark’s wrinkly hand a tender squeeze and looked at him with apologetic eyes, “I’m sorry, Clark.” He returned the friendly gesture by patting her hand, “Don’t be, dear. We lived a long and contented life together. Ryan is the exact replica of myself when I was his age, except he isn’t the untrustworthy type. The lad is as loyal as a Saint Bernard.” “Excuse me, miss?” Interrupted the petite blonde waitress, “I have your food ready to go.” “Oh, thank you.” Nikki handed her a tip and took the plastic container from the young girl. “You should get going, dear, it’s getting late.” Nikki glanced at her watch disappointed, “I guess I should. Here,” Nikki grabbed a napkin and quickly scribbled down her number, address, and email, “please keep in touch with me, Clark.” Clark took it with a gracious smile on his face, “You know I will, lass. It wasn’t an accident our meeting here.” Clark got off the stool and helped Nikki down. He gave Nikki a warm, fatherly embrace, “Take care of yourself, darling.” “I will, Clark. Goodbye!” She called as she ran off to the elevators. He waved to her until the elevator doors sealed shut. After she showered, changed, and ate, Nikki powered up her computer and began searching for airline flights to New York. It seemed her boss needed her back at work right away, because he was ecstatic to hear that she was coming home soon. Still, Nikki was unsure about what to do. Clark urged her that love also means giving second chances, but how would she know Ryan wasn’t a liar? This whole situation was all too stressful for Nikki, and Ryan. Nikki doubted that she could fix this situation, and she was always taught that messing with things one cannot fix ruins them even more. Nikki shut her eyes firmly, “I love you, Ryan, which is why I am doing this for you. It’s what’s best.” With that, Nikki booked a flight to New York for 7AM. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- More to come soon
