“Yea, what were ya doin Paul?”, Keith asked. Once again, Paul dubbed himself an idiot. Why hadn’t he come up with an excuse on the way over? “I was talking to someone about Sleeping Beauty”, he lied smoothly. And technically, it wasn’t even a lie. He HAD been talking to someone about that. The lads just weren’t allowed to find out who. “How’s that going by the way?”, Ryan asked. “Really well”, Paul replied. Thank goodness they bought it. “I asked the fans to get me to 10,000 hits, they got me almost 20,000” “20,000?!”, Damian repeated. “Wow Paul”, George said. “They must really like you or something” “Or something”, Paul laughed. “So how’s the bench coming?”, he asked, wanting to get off the subject. The lads all looked at each other. “Let’s just say it’s not sittable yet”, Damian replied. “Well how much is done?”, Paul asked. “The base”, Ryan answered. Paul sighed. “Well, then we better get to work” The next few hours were spent busily working. “No Paul, not like that”, George said. “You have to smooth the inside corner of each leg where the plane won't reach”, he was reading from a book. “No you don’t”, Paul said. He took the book from George. “You have to Lay out the side profile of the rear legs on the cedar blanks first” “Ouch!!”, Ryan cried out, holding his hand. “What happened?”, Keith asked. He looked up from the nail he was hammering. “I cut my hand” “How?”, Damian asked. Ryan rolled his eyes. “I don’t know Damian, maybe on a sharp piece of metal” “This is why Ryan became an accountant and not a builder”, Paul teased his friend. “This is EXACTLY why”, Ryan said, still holding his hand. George asked. “Do ya need a band aid Ryan?”, he asked. Ryan looked up at him. “Do you have one?” At this, the guys all laughed. “Hold it together Ry”, Keith slapped him on the back. “I usually keep one in the back of my wallet”, George reached into his back pocket. “In case Sarah needs one”, he pulled out a princess band aid. “Are you taking notes Keith?”, Paul asked. “Good Fathers keep pretty, pink, princess band aids on them at all times” Keith laughed. “Even if it’s a boy?” “Oh most deffinatly if it’s a boy”, Paul said with a straight face. “I mean, Ryan’s wearing one, its going to become the new fashion” “Go work on the bench Paul”, George said as he handed Ryan the band aid. Sure enough, it was pink. Ryan just stared at it for a second. “Thanks George”, he sighed as he put the band aid on. Just then, Keith’s cell phone rang. “Hello Love”, he greeted Paul smiled. No prizes to figure out who THAT was. As usual, whenever one of the other lads made reference to the woman in their lives, it made Paul think of Zara. He couldn’t wait to text her later. Wait a sec. Why wait til later? He could text her now. The lads wouldn’t know who he was talking to. Paul got out his phone. “I love you”, he texted. By this time, Keith had gotten off the phone. “That was Katie. She wanted to know when we’re coming back”, Keith announced. “Where does she think we are?”, Ryan asked right away. Keith laughed. “At a pub” George laughed as well. “Well, I hope she’s not expectin’ ya anytime soon” Paul’s phone vibrated. “Love you too”, Zara replied. “How’s the bench coming?” “Wonderful”, Paul texted. “At this rate we’ll have it done in about 10 years” “I miss you”, Zara texted back. Paul smiled down at his phone. He missed her too. So much. He looked up and caught Ryan looking at him. Paul smiled back, trying to keep it cool. “One of my mates”, he lied. “Ahh”, Ryan nodded, looking like he didn’t believe him. “well, we should get back to work on the bench” “Right!”, Damian said, overhearing. “I want to get back to Gianna” “Isn’t she with the girls?”, Keith asked. “It’ll be too late to see her tonight anyway”, George added. Damian’s face fell. “Yea, I guess I’ll see her in the morning” “Can we please get back to work on the bench now?”, Ryan asked. “We have to get this done before the wedding, and we can’t bring it on tour” Paul sighed and put his phone away. He’d see Zara at rehearsal the next morning.

The next morning, everyone gathered for rehearsal. Paul caught Zara’s eye as he walked in and gave her a quick smile. Zara gave him a small smile back and quickly turned away. “Okay everyone, time to start!”, Belinda called as she came through the door. “Good morning Belinda!”, Damian called from across the room. He was standing by the wall with his arm around Gianna. Belinda smiled. “Good morning Damian. Ryan, Paul, and Zara, get on stage. We’re going to start with That’s A Woman” This was now one of Paul’s favorite songs. Not only did he get to perform, but he got to hold Zara and dance with her at the same time. He walked onto the stage and got into position for the start of the song. Zara wasn’t in her dancing dress, but she was gorgeous all the same. She looked over at him. “Don’t drop me”, she called from across the stage. Paul was aware that Ryan was on the other side of the stage as well, so he couldn’t give her the exact answer he wanted. “How much are you going to pay me?”, Paul asked, trying to give a normal, smart aleck answer. “Oh I’m not going to pay you. You’re just going to be a gentleman for once” “Ouch”, Ryan commented. “She got you there Paul” “I’m always a gentleman”, Paul retorted playfully. “Now Ryan on the other hand….” “Are you three ready up there?”, Belinda called from the floor. “Yes Belinda, we’re ready”, Zara said quickly. Belinda started the music and Paul watched Zara as she did the opening moves. When he first started singing, he wasn’t really paying attention to much of anything. Just the notes and making sure he got his pitch right. But as the song went on, he started concentrating on the lyrics and the way Zara was moving. She was so talented. Paul had to be careful not to get out of character and just stare at her… Then the feel of her hand on his chest, gently alluring him… Paul was trying, oh so hard, not to look at her in any other way other than how he was supposed to. But that was the thing, he was SUPPOSED to be looking at her as if he was in love. The tricky part was doing it so that no one knew it was real. While Ryan was singing his part, going on about how women were evil, Paul was dancing with Zara. The feel of her in his arms was nothing short of enchanting. She was so delicate, Paul was afraid he would break her. He couldn’t help it. He looked at this woman and knew that he would love her forever. As he dipped her, Paul knew that he had failed in his plan not to show his real feelings. The quick look that Zara gave him said that she was feeling the same sudden passion for him as he was for her. This was bad…. They were in the middle of a rehearsal. “Good Paul”, Belinda called. “You’re getting a lot better at looking at her as if you were in love” Great. Even Belinda noticed. When the song ended, Zara went off to get a drink and Paul went into a side room to think. “Hey Paul”, Ryan said as he came in. Yea, Paul was in for it. “Hey Ryan”, he greeted. “Great rehearsal” “Paul, what’s going on?”, Ryan asked. “What do you mean?”, Paul tried to play dumb. Ryan walked in and sat down. “I think you know exactly what I mean Paul”, he said seriously. Paul said nothing and raised his eyebrows. “Zara, Paul”, Ryan said. “Tell me what’s going on with you and Zara” Paul closed his eyes and put his head in his hands. “How long have you known?”, he asked, not looking up. “I’ve been suspicious for quite some time, but after last night.. .and now this morning! Paul you were practically drooling over her this morning” “Yea, I know”, Paul said. “I’m in love with her” “I kind of guessed that much”, Ryan replied. “I can’t believe you actually found a girl! Finally!” Paul looked at him. “So you think this is a good thing?” Ryan laughed. “Of course Paul! Why wouldn’t love be a good thing?” “Because Zara and I are co workers”, Paul explained. “Sharon won’t approve” Ryan just stared at Paul for a second. “Okay, first of all, what are Keith and Katie?” “Married”, Paul knew what Ryan was getting at. Keith and Katie had started out as co workers. “They weren’t married at first”, Ryan countered. “And second of all, what is Sharon going to do about it?” “Fire us”, Paul said flatly. Ryan shook his head. “She wouldn’t do that. She loves both of you too much. And she really doesn’t care if co workers date” “She might”, Paul muttered. “No, she doesn’t”, Ryan said firmly. Paul thought about this. What Ryan said made sense… so why was he so reluctant to tell everyone? “I’ll talk to Zara about it”, Paul said. “Good”, Ryan clapped him on the back. Just then, Anna peeked her head in the room. ”Ryan?” “What’s up?”, Ryan turned to smile at her. Anna walked in and took Ryan’s hands. “I was just wondering if we could go over some- what’s this?” she held up Ryan’s bandaged finger. “That?”, Ryan asked. “That’s a band aid” “I can see that”, Anna said. “But how did you hurt your finger?”
Yea, it’s not much of a cliffhanger, but I didn’t know how else to end it

“My finger?,” Ryan asked. “I just.. cut it yesterday” Anna went over and looked at his finger. “Aww, honey. You did? How?” “Well, you see.. umm.. you know we were at a pub last night?”, he asked. “Yes…”, Anna agreed slowly. “Well there was a fight there”, Ryan said. “And a bunch of Guinness glasses got smashed” Paul knew that Ryan was making all this up right off the top of his head and he mentally groaned. “This was the worst cover story he had ever heard. Appearantly Ryan wasn’t good at thinking under pressure. “And I cut my finger on a piece of glass”, Ryan finished lamely. Anna looked confused, but didn’t argue. “So where did you get that stylish band aid?”, she asked. “George”, Ryan answered. “He had it in his wallet” “His wallet?”, Anna laughed. Paul could see his friend starting to squirm. He knew that his friend wanted to get off the topic. “Yes, his wallet”, Ryan answered as he kissed her on the cheek. “Now what did you want to talk to me about?” “Just about the wedding”, Anna said. “What about it?”, Ryan took her hands and pulled her closer to him. “About the cake, the color of your tie, stuff like that” Ryan and Paul looked at each other. “I didn’t know my tie even had to BE a color”, Ryan half laughed. Anna looked at him. “Of course it does”, she said as if it was obvious. “It does?”, Ryan asked. “yes” Paul stood up suddenly. “Well, it looks like you two have a lot to talk about. I think I’m gonna go” “Oh no, you can stay Paul”, Ryan said quickly. Paul could tell that he didn’t want to be left alone on this. “Oh I don’t think I can”, Paul smiled. “see you later”, he said as he went out the door.
Later that night, Paul went to Ryan’s hotel room. “You cut your finger on glass??”, he asked incredulously as he walked in. “It was all I could think of!”, Ryan defended himself. He was on his laptop checking the football scores. “That was the worst cover story I had ever heard”, Paul shook his head. “Thank you. I’m quite proud of it”, Ryan jokingly took that as a compliment. “Did you tell Zara?” Paul shook his head. “Haven’t had a chance. We can’t meet a lot, we have to be careful” Ryan rolled his eyes. “Come on Paul, no ones gonna think anything of you two hanging out. And if they do, it doesn’t matter… cus they won’t care! They’d actually probably be happy for you” Paul ran a hand through his hair. “I don’t know why I’m being so paranoid about this”, he confessed. “I guess I just care about her too much to risk anything”, he sat dejectedly down on the side of the bed. “Bull”, Ryan said flatly. Paul’s head snapped up and he looked at Ryan. He was shocked at first, Ryan never used language like that, but then immediately took the deffensive. “What did you just say?”, Paul asked in a threatening tone. “I don’t mean that you don’t love her!”, Ryan amended. “I just meant that that’s not the reason” “Oh”, Paul cooled off. He looked back down at the floor. “Well what is then?”, he asked quietly. He was really confused about this… Ryan sat down in the chair opposite of him. “Let me play Mr. Shrink for a second”, he said. “Oh Lord”, Paul rolled his eyes. “Now I’m really doomed” “No your not”, Ryan said impatiently. “Now listen a minute” Paul sat up and exaggeratedly gave Ryan his full attention. “now, you and Zara are both professional performers”, Ryan started. “Yea…” “So, you and Zara fall in love, and you subconsciously realize that when Anna and I fell in love, we got engaged. “So?”, Paul asked. “I’m not done yet”, Ryan told him. “So then, you see that when Keith and Katie fell in love, they got married” Paul wasn’t getting it. He had no clue as to where Ryan was going with this… “You don’t get it do you?”, Ryan asked. Paul stared at his friend. “How could anyone possibly get that?”, he asked. Ryan sighed. “You think that when everyone finds out that you and Zara are in love, they’ll expect you to get married like everyone else. But, you know that you both want to continue with your careers a bit first. You don’t want everyone bugging you about getting married, so your keeping it to yourself” Paul thought for a moment, trying to understand what Ryan was saying. Suddenly, a light went on in his head. “You’re actually right…”, he said slowly. “I know”, Ryan smiled. “How do you know all this?”, Paul asked. Ryan shrugged. “I just put myself in your shoes” “You know, on one of our first dates, Zara and I talked about this. We were talking about kids and getting married. And we both agreed that we wanted to wait a bit. You’re actually right Ryan. I don’t want everyone pressuring me to get married. That’s what you lads did with me finding a girl and it was awful” Ryan grimiced. “Sorry mate” “I gotta talk to Zara”, Paul said. He REALLY needed to talk with that woman. He was so tired of playing this game… He hated not being able to be affectionate with her in public. He loved her for crying out loud! He wanted to shout it from the rooftops! But he couldn’t… and that was something that needed to be fixed. Suddenly filled with determination, Paul stood up. “I gotta talk to her”, he said. “Well good!”, Ryan said. “Let me know how it goes” Paul didn’t answer, he was already out the door.

hey, sorry its been a while. i have a lot of things going on. but finals sre done next week! so you guys should get more updates while i'm on break! thanks for being so patient!!!
Paul walked around the studio quickly and found Zara talking with Anna and Katie. “Zara”, he said, walking up to her. “Can I talk to you?” Zara looked up, obviously confused and wondering what was going on. “Now?” “Yes, now. Please” Zara got up and followed Paul into the other room. “Paul? What’s wrong? You wouldn’t do this unless something had happened” “Nothing’s wrong sweetheart”, Paul soothed as he rubbed her upper arms. Zara looked likes she didn’t believe him, so he rushed on quickly. “I think we should tell them” “What?!” Paul laughed a bit at her reaction. “You’re the one that wanted to keep it a secret in the first place!”, Zara went on. Paul looked at Zara’s confused face and sighed. “I know,” he said. “But Ryan said-“ “Wait a sec”, Zara interrupted. “You told Ryan?” “He found out”, Paul laughed. “He’s actually a smart guy. Surprisingly” Zara sat down on the couch behind her. “Wow Paul…” Paul sat down next to her and took her hand. “I was kidding”, he defended himself, thinking that he was wowing his bash on Ryan. But Paul was only joking. He knew Ryan was smart. Heck, the guy was an accountant, he HAD to be smart! “Come on Zara, you know I was joking…”, he kissed her hand. “No, it’s not that”, Zara said. “It’s the fact that I, appearently, have no say in this” “Paul was confused now. “No say in what?”, he asked. “I’n our relationship…”, she replied, her voice curious. “What?!”, Paul was really bewildered now. No say in their relationship? Everything he did was for her! “First you tell me that no one’s allowed to know, then you all of a sudden want to tell people?”, Zara asked. “What about our jobs?” Paul laughed. Not to be mean, but from sheer relief that he actually knew what she was talking about now. “They’re fine”, Paul assured the lovely girl in front of him. “Ryan convinced me that Sharon’s not a monster. He helped me figure out that the real reason I didn’t want to tell anyone, is because I didn’t want them to pressure us into getting married” Zara had been playing with their entwined fingers, but when he said that, her deep brown eyes snapped up to search his. “You don’t want to get married?” “Not right away”, Paul said. “Give it a few years” “A few years?”, Zara repeated faintly. “We need time for our careers Zara”, Paul said. He was so excited for their future together. He had everything all planned out. “So, we’re going to tell the other lads and everyone, then we’ll tell the fans” “The fans”, Zara said in a dull voice. Paul didn’t notice this though. “Well yea”, Paul said. “They’ll be happy for us, and- What?” Zara had been looking at him in a weird way. Not mad… but not happy either. Zara raised her eyebrows. “Were you even going to talk to me about this?” Ok, Paul was officially confused again. “I am talking to you!” What was Zara’s problem? She looked near ready to yell at him… Zara threw up her hands. “Paul, you dragged me in here, and basically told me that after weeks of secrecy, all of a sudden you’re ready to tell the whole world!” Paul just stared at her. Speechless. Telling the whole world had kind of been the whole point…”Well not the whole world”, he tried to lighten the mood. One look at Zara’s face told him that lightening the mood was NOT the best thing to do at the moment. “You know what I mean Paul” “I thought you wanted people to know”, Paul was starting to get defensive now. “Not the fans! I don’t want my private life being gossiped about!” “They’re going to find out anyway”, Paul argued. “They always do” “And what’s this about not wanting to get married?”, Zara went on. “You can’t just come in here and TELL me how our relationship’s going to go Paul. We need to discuss things” Paul didn’t know how to respond. Part of him wanted to be the understanding boyfriend. The other part was getting annoyed. He went with the first part. “Zara honey, I’m sorry. I’m just so excited for our future. I have all these plans” “Were you going to talk to me about these plans?” Paul pulled back from her, knowing that he was on thin ice. “Well some of them”, he said. “But some of them are common sense. Like the whole getting married thing…” Big mistake. Zara stood up abruptly. “I’ve got to go” “Zara wait”, Paul stood up. Zara turned and looked at him, her eyebrows raised. “I love you”, Paul stated. Zara didn’t respond and turned to leave. “Hey”, Paul called. After a moment of indecision, she turned around again. Paul made sure to say each word firmly. “I. Love. You.” Tears came to Zara’s eyes, and she looked as if she wanted to go to him. Instead, she walked out the door.

Paul just stood there. Dumbfounded. She just walked out on him… As in, purposely ignored and walked out the door, walked out on him. She must be really upset… Paul breathed in deeply and then let it out in a whoosh of air. He sat down in the previously vacated chair and buried his head in his hands, leaning his forearms on his knees. “Paul?”, said a voice. Paul looked up to find George and Damian in the doorway, and realized what an akward position he was in. “Oh… umm… hey guys”, he said as he sat up. “You okay Paul?,” Damian asked, his blue eyes shaded with concern. Paul ran a hand through his hair. “Yea, I’m fine”, he lied. “Just tired” George and Damian exchanged glances. “Then why did we just see Zara run out of here crying?”, George asked. Shoot. Paul had no answer to that… he wasn’t exactly able to think straight at the moment. Still… George and Damian were waiting for an answer. An answer that Paul couldn’t give. “My guess would be that she’s upset”, he said. “Yea, no duh Paul”, Damian rolled his eyes. “Why though?”
Paul wanted to tell them. That was just the thing though. HE was fine with letting people know. It was just that telling people was the exact reason as to why Zara was mad at him. Well, that and not wanting to get married right away. Which only made sense in Paul’s mind. They couldn’t marry right now. They were both busy with their music. They were always traveling to different places. Paul thought it was best to wait until things settle down… why couldn’t Zara see that? “Umm… Paul?”, George asked. Paul snapped out of his daydreaming. “What?”, he asked. “Why is Zara crying?” “We had an argument”, Paul sighed. Damian and George looked at each other again. “And it made her cry?”, Damian looked shocked. “What were you arguing about?”, George asked, equally shocked. Paul sighed again. He couldn’t lie anymore. He was so sick of the lies… he couldn’t even think up a good lie at the moment. “I can’t tell you”, he said simply. “Why?”, Damian asked. “It’s… complicated” Now it was George’s turn to sigh. “Just tell us Paul. We know SOMETHING’S bothering you” “I can’t tell you”, Paul said. “Why?”, Damian repeated. Paul turned to Damian, exasperated. “Because that’s the thing! The whole reason we’re fighting is about telling you!” Oops. George’s face looked as if a light had gone off in his brain. “Ohhhh! You mean…” “George…”, Paul started. “What?”, Damian didn’t get it. George pointed to Paul. “You… She…” “George”, Paul said more firmly. “What?!”, Damian was still lost. George looked at Damian now. “Nothing”, he said quickly. “Oh no!”, Damian exclaimed. “I’m not a kid anymore. I know something’s up. What’s going on?” Ok, game over. Paul knew that these two wouldn’t drop it unless they got the truth. “Zara and I are in love”, he said softly, a small smile on his lips. George’s face broke out into a huge grin. “That’s great!”, he exclaimed. “Congratulations!” Damian laughed. “Awesome! Finally!” “Yea…”, Paul laughed a bit. It felt so good to finally tell someone. “So what’s wrong then?”, George asked. Paul told them everything. From how they first started sneaking out, to ho Zara walked out on him. “Wow Paul”, Damian said when Paul was done. “We had no idea…” Paul laughed, automatically in a better mood now that someone knew the truth. “That was kind of the whole point Damo” “So what are you going to do?”, George asked. “I have no idea”, Paul shook his head. “I know what we’re going to do”, George said. “What?”, Paul asked, ready to accept any help he could. “We’re going to go get your girl back”

“How?”, Paul looked at George anxiously. “How are we gonna get her back?” George blinked. “How? I don’t know… I was just saying we should” Paul looked at him. “You mean you don’t actually have an idea?” “I’m not known as the romantic of this group!”, George defended himself. “That would be you” Paul huffed in frusteration and raked a hand through his hair. “Well I don’t know what to do…” “Seriously?”, Damian asked. George and Paul turned to look at him. “Seriously what?”, Paul asked. Damian looked back and forth between them. “You two seriously have no clue as to get her back?” “And you do?”, Paul asked. “Well yea”, Damian said as if it was obvious. “How?”, Paul asked. Damian got an excited look on his face. “I heard about this one thing… Girls love it!” “Well what is it??”, Paul asked. Just then, Ryan walked into the room. “What’s going on?”, he asked. He took in the excited look on Damian’s face, the impatient one on Paul’s, and the wary one on George’s. Paul explained to Ryan how George now knew the whole story and about the present situation with Zara. “And Damian was just about to tell us his brilliant plan to get her back”, George said. “Damian’s plan?”, Ryan laughed. “Hey!”, Damian exclaimed. “My idea happens to be really good!” “What is it Damian?”, Paul asked. Damian just smiled.
A few hours later, Paul was ready. All he needed to do was write the note. “What should I say?”, he asked the other lads. “Just speak from the heart”, Ryan said. “From the heart”, Paul repeated. “Okay” “My Dearest Zara”, Paul wrote. “I know that you’re mad at me, and for what I did, I am deeply sorry. I just want you to know, that everything I do, I do it for you. And even though you’re mad at me… there’s no one else I’d rather be fighting with. You are so precious to me Zara darling, please don’t be mad. Meet me at our spot at 9 tonight and let me make it up to you. I love you. Paul” Paul finished writing the letter and handed it to the other lads to read. “What do you think?”, he asked. “It’s really good”, George said. Ryan nodded in agreement. “It’s sweet. I think she’ll love it” “It’s perfect”, Damian added. Paul reread the note and tried to imagine Zara’s reaction when she read it. He hoped she would show up… “Okay, now we need to give it to her”, Paul said. “Ryan, you give it to her. She knows that you know what’s going on” Ryan took the note. “Will do, mate” “Now Paul”, Damian turned to him. “You go to your spot and wait for her, then follow the plan” “What if she doesn’t show up?”, Paul suddenly doubted. “She will”, George said as the lads started out the door. “Just remember, from the heart” “Good luck Paul”, Ryan said as he left. “See ya Paul”, Damian said. “Good luck” Once all the lads were gone, Paul started to pace. And with the pacing, came the worry. What if Ryan didn’t get the letter to her? What if she saw it was from him and tore it up? What if she read it, but was still so mad that she didn’t show up at all? Paul groaned in frusteration and sat on his hotel bed. He loved her so much, he couldn’t bear to have her mad at him. The next two hours were the longest of his life. Finally, it was time to go and meet Zara. Hopefully. He got to their spot, and after only a few minutes of waiting, he saw her coming through the trees. She had actually come. Paul’s heart leapt at the sight of her as he restrained himself from running to the woman he loved. “I’m so sorry”, Paul murmured when she was close enough. He wanted to reach out to her and take her in his arms, but knew that that probably wasn’t a good idea. “I’m sorry too”, Zara whispered. SHE was apologizing to HIM? No, that wasn’t right. She had done nothing wrong… “For what?”, Paul asked softly. “For walking out on you” Paul sighed and stepped toward her, giving up and holding her anyway. “No Zara, no”, he whispered in her hair. “This is all my fault.” It faintly occurred to him that he wasn’t following Damian’s plan at all… but he’d get to that later. “But it’s my fault too”, Zara insisted. “I shouldn’t have walked out… we could have talked… I should have been more understanding” “Shhh…”, Paul silenced her by putting a finger to her lips. “This is not your fault Zara. I should have talked to you, instead of telling you how things were going to go” Zara’s deep brown eyes looked up at him through tear kissed lashes. She looked as if she was about to say something, but Paul held up a finger. “Wait”, he said as he let her go. He walked to a tree a few feet away and got out 5 roses from behind it. Zara’s eyes widened in shock when she saw them, and her hand flew to her mouth. “Paul”, she whispered. Paul smiled and stood in front of her. Time to put Damian’s plan into action. “You know how red roses symbolize love?”, Paul asked her. Zara nodded. “Well, there’s only one difference between these roses and my love for you”, he said. “What?”, Zara asked. “These roses will eventually die. However, my love for you, my dear…”, Paul reached into his jacket pocket. “Will die only when this last rose does,” as he said it, he drew a small, wooden rose from his pocket. Zara gasped and her eyes filled with tears. “That means never” Paul winked at the lovely woman before him. “That means never. Let’s go talk”

Paul took Zara’s hand and led her to sit under the tree. “We don’t have to tell the fans”, he started. “Thank you”, Zara smiled at him. “And we… can wait to get married” Paul could tell that this was a hard concession for her to make. He rubbed his thumb back and forth across the back of her hand. “Why don’t you want to wait?”, he asked softly. “Because I love you Paul”, Zara stated. “I don’t want to wait. There’s just something about getting married… something that makes you mine forever” “I’m already yours”, Paul promised. “For now, forever, for always.” Gosh, he sounded like a hallmark card. Zara stared up into his eyes. “I know. I guess I’m just being silly”, she looked down into her lap. Paul leaned forward and used his finger to lift her chin and bring her eyes back to his. “You’re not silly”, he told her. “I understand why you want to get married. I do too. Just not yet”, he winked at her. “Why?”, Zara whispered. Paul leaned in and kissed the confused woman before him. “Because we’re both really busy with our careers right now”, he said. “Marriage is a time to be together, not a million miles apart” Zara nodded. “But we’ll always have our careers. We’re not planning on quitting any time soon” “I know”, Paul sighed. “And I don’t want to wait 5 years or anything… just two or three” “Three?”, Zara’s eyes got wide. “Okay, two. And a half”, Paul compromised. “Deal”, Zara laughed. “I can wait that long… I guess” Paul kissed her again. “Just remember Love, I have to wait too” Zara blushed and looked away. “I talked to Katie, Anna, and Gianna”, she changed the subject. “About us?”, Paul was surprised. Zara was the one who didn’t want to tell people… “Well, they kind of saw me upset and I was confused, so I asked for advice” “And what did they say?”, Paul was amused now. “They said I should talk to you” Paul laughed. “Well, I talked to Damian, Ryan, and George. The whole rose thing… Damian’s idea” Zara laughed. “Can’t believe Damian would actually think of something like that” “Oh he’s quite the romantic”, Paul smiled. “So… forgive me?” “Yes. Will you forgive me?” “Always”, Paul kissed her a third time. Paul stood up and offered his hand to help her to her feet. “Shall we go back?”, he asked. “I think so. Everyone’s probably wondering if we made up” Paul put his arm around her waist and together they walked back through the trees.
When they got back to the hotel, everyone was hanging around in the lobby. They walked in normally, not touching each other, and Paul could sense everyone’s curiosity. “Everyone, I’d like to introduce you to my girlfriend” The first thing that Paul noticed was that everyone immediately broke into smiles and cheers. Everyone except Keith, he just looked confused. “About time!”, Ryan exclaimed. “Did my plan work?”, Damian asked. Anna left Ryan and went to hug Zara. “I knew he would listen”, she smiled. Paul turned to Zara and wrapped his arm around her waist. “I think they’re happy we made up”, he said as he kissed her on the cheek. “Whoa, whoa, whoa”, Keith moved Katie off his lap and stood up. “Made up? You two? What the heck is going on??” “You didn’t know Keith?”, Katie asked him. “Know what?”, Keith asked. George laughed. “Where have ya been Keith? We’ve known for a whole 4 hours!” “Known what??, Keith was exasperated now. Paul laughed an explained everything to Keith. “I’m just glad you two worked everything out”, Ryan said, putting his arm around Anna. “Trust me, so am I”, Paul laughed. “What’s all this commotion?”, Sharon asked as she walked in. “Paul and Zara are a couple!”, Damian exclaimed happily. “Paul and Zara?”, Sharon turned to look at them. “Yea”, Paul said. “I hope that’s okay Sharon”, he knew that Sharon would be fine with it. But he still had to ask. “Of course it is!”, Sharon beamed. “I couldn’t be happier for you!” Paul grinned. He couldn’t be happier either. Sharon knew, the lads knew, Ryan’s wedding was coming up, and most importantly, he had Zara. He was so relieved. Now that everyone knew, he could finally love Zara the way she deserved to be loved. No more sneaking out, no more lies, and no more secrets. The Tenor’s Secret was no more.

Epilogue
The day of Ryan and Anna’s wedding dawned clear and bright as the couple joined in Holy Matrimony. Paul remembered that George had tried to get Ryan to marry in a kilt, like he had at his wedding. Paul was glad that Ryan didn’t listen though. The fitting black tux looked good on him. “You look good Ry”, Paul told him in the side room behind the alter. They were waiting there for the guests to arrive and for everything to be ready. “You look like a man ready to get married” “I’m nervous”, Ryan paced back and forth in the small room. “You have your song ready?”, he suddenly turned to Paul. Ryan was referring to the song he had asked Paul to sing. That had been so long ago… that was before he had fallen in love with Zara. The day after the lads had been checking out girls for him in the pub. “Of course I have the song ready”, he told the anxious groom. He had had the song ready for weeks. They had decided that he would sing, “If I Loved You”, from his cd. It was simple, but still nice. “Okay, good”, Ryan started to pace again. “Relax Ryan”, Paul laughed as he took his friend by the shoulders. “You’re getting married! Not going to prison!” “He lies”, Keith quipped from across the room. “Marriage IS prison mate” Ryan half laughed. “Don’t tell him that”, George said. “Marriage is amazing Ryan. Keith, the bachelor at heart here may not like it…” “I was kidding!”, Keith protested. “You know I love Katie! I’d die for her!” “What do you think of marriage Damian?”, Paul jokingly turned to him. Damian put his hand on his chin and pretended to seriously consider the question. “I think that marriage is not something to be taken lightly, but is probably a lot of fun. I don’t plan to try it anytime soon though. Don’t get me wrong, I love Gi! But we have a long way to go” “Thank you for that inspiring insight Damo”, Paul said seriously. “See Ry?”, George asked. “Even Damo agrees” “Yea”, Ryan nodded. Just then, the priest poked his head in the door. “It’s time”, the kindly man smiled. The wedding went off without a hitch, and Ryan and Anna exited the church beaming. “You’re finally married!”, Paul slapped his friend on the back at the reception. “I know”, Ryan’s smile looked as if it would break his face. “Do you know how long it’s taken to get to this?”, Keith asked. “Too long” “I remember when he first laid eyes on you”, George turned to his wife’s cousin. “That was priceless”, Paul laughed. “And then Keith thought I was trying to steal her”, Damian remembered. “That was so long ago”, Anna laughed. “I was on tour with you guys, babysitting Sarah” “That was my favorite tour”, Ryan smiled at his bride. Paul wrapped his arm around Zara, knowing what she was thinking. She couldn’t wait to get married. Neither could he. “Umm… Ryan?”, Keith asked, looking at his phone. “What Keith?”, Ryan asked. “Isn’t it time to go check on your mom?” Ryan looked confused, and for a second, so did Paul. “My mom?”, Ryan asked. Suddenly, Paul understood. They had planned to present the bench at 3. Keith must be TRYING to be subtle. “Yes, your mom”, Paul played along. He’d smack Keith upside the head later. Seriously, could he have been ANY more obvious? Ryan was still confused, but went along with the lads. As soon as they were out of the door, Paul turned on Keith. “Are you okay Keith?”, he asked. “Haven’t had too many drinks already?” “Yea, sorry. Bad excuse” “Terrible excuse”, Paul corrected. “Where’s the bench Ry?”, Damian asked. “Over here”, Ryan led them to a side room and they pulled out the bench. “Okay, so I’m gonna go in there, and make a speech about Anna, then you guys bring the bench in”, Ryan instructed. “Got it”, Damian replied. Ryan went in and Paul listened to the speech. “Well Anna, it’s taken us long enough, but we’re finally married”, Ryan said and Paul smiled. About time. “I love you Anna”, Ryan said. “I’ll always love you. I can’t wait to get started on our life together, and hopefully, someday you’ll look like Katie over there”, he nodded to the very pregnant woman. Paul could imagine Ryan winking at Anna, and Anna’s accompanying blush. “Just know, that no matter what happens, I’ll always love you”, Ryan continued. “Over the past few weeks, I’ve been working on something for you. The lads helped. So Anna, this is my wedding present to you” They hadn’t come up with a signal before hand, but Paul imagined that if they had, that would have been it. Him and the other lads picked up the bench and brought it in. Anna’s face was priceless. Her eyes filled with tears and she turned to Ryan. The bench really had turned out quite well. It wasn’t lopsided and they had painted it a beautiful mint green. The engraving on the backrest only added to the cuteness of it. “I love it”, Anna said to Ryan. Ryan leaned in and kissed her. Paul searched the room for Zara with his eyes. When he found her, he walked over and wrapped his arms around her from behind. “Soon Love”, he whispered in her ear. “I know”, she turned around in his arms and wrapped her arms around his neck. “Wanna dance?”, Paul asked. Zara smiled. “Just don’t drop me”, she whispered as she took him by the hand and led him to the dance floor. A slow song was on and Paul swayed her gently in his arms. “You happy?”, he asked. “Yes” “Even though we’re waiting?” “Of course”, Zara answered. “Cus at the end of the wait, I get you. I’d wait forever if I had to” Paul’s heart swelled with love for her. It had been a long journey… but from babysitters to secrets, it was worth it. And honestly, Paul wouldn’t take back a single second of it.
