Sirens blared. Lights red and blue flashed as they passed me. They were looking for me. They finally found me, at least, they thought they found me. They didn't know I escaped a few days ago I have been running and hiding since. I have no idea where I am and I want to go to them. I want to feel safe...but I can't. I can't trust them. They might work for him. They might take me away again.
Suddenly I heard voices. I couldn't make out what they were saying, but they were getting closer. I held my breath as they got closer to me. They were close enough that I could make out what they were saying.
"Savannah wasn't in the house. They think she escaped recently. Well, they hope she just escaped for her families sake." One of them said.
My family. I miss them so much. I can't remember the last time I saw them. My mom and dad and my sister. Tears sting my eyes, as I swallow the lump that had formed in my throat at the mention of my family.
"I know, but they wouldn't have asked us to come out if they didn't think there was a chance of finding her." The other one said. I wonder how many there are.
"If they really thought there was a chance of finding her...well...alive, they wouldn't have asked us amateur detectives. They would have gotten the real deal. They're still searching the house, remember?" They think I'm dead. The thought makes me sad. Especially since I can't be found. He might find me again. Why did he want me? The thoughts of being in that house consumed my memory.
"Alaina, sweetie. Come here please," he called to me in a sickingly sweet voice that always made me cringe. My name isn't even Alaina. He thinks I'm his daughter...his dead daughter.
"Yes, dad?" I answered, coming into his den. I was scared. Scared of what he was going to do to me.
He stood up and walked over to me. I cringed. "I just want to tell you that I love you," he said, pulling me into a hug. It took all I had not to pull away.
"Oh." Was all I could get out. My throat was dry, my hands were sweaty, and I could feel the tears threatening to spill. He held me at arms length and studied my face for a second.
"Honey, what's wrong?" He asked with concern. I had to lie. He couldn't know the reason. The last time I told him why I was crying, he got mad. I didn't like him when he was mad.
"I-I just have a h-headache," I stuttered out. He hugged me again. I wanted my life to end.
"Go lay down. You'll feel better soon." He smiled at me, with his creepy, lopsided smile. I nodded and left as fast as I could, not wanting to be in his presence longer than I had to be.
I sniffled at the memory.
"Did you hear that, Ryan?"
"Let's check it out."Oops. I forgot they were still here. They started coming near the tree I had been hiding in since the sun had set for the night. I held my breath, hoping they wouldn't see me.
"Ry...I think there's someone up there," he said uncertainly. I didn't move. I didn't breath. I shut my eyes tightly hoping they would leave.
"It's a girl. I think it's her, Emmet!" I stiffened even more. They saw me. I was scared. They were going to take me back to him. I just knew it. I couldn't let them take me. Not again.
"Hey, Savannah, we work for the police. We want to take somewhere safer. Can please come down?" He asked softly. I ignored him.
"I think she's scared." The other observed.
"Yeah. Maybe I'll go up there and try to talk to her." I can't let them come near me. I looked around for a broken branch or anything I could use as a weapon
He began climbing the tree. I started poking at him with the branch and he retreated back down.
"She's not letting me climb," he sighed. Yeah, you just stay down there.
"Maybe we should call the others?" The other one suggested. The others? No. They couldn't do that. I would have escape this spot and now. I started slowly climbing down the tree, my weapon in hand. They were still talking, trying to decide what to do. I hopped to the ground, making a small thud and they turned to me with surprised expressions.
"OK, put the stick down and please, just come with us. My name is Ryan and this is Emmet and we're here to help you. We aren't going to hurt you," Ryan said, coming closer to me. I held up my stick and stopped coming near me. They're lying to me. They must be.
"I don't think she's going to listen to you."
I started backing away, but then decided I needed a distraction. So I threw my stick at Ryan and took off running.
"Ryan, are you alright?" I heard Emmet almost shout.
"Go after her, I'm fine."
"Savannah! Wait!" He called to me. I didn't stop. I couldn't stop. He would take me back. His footsteps were getting closer to mine. I couldn't let him catch me. I just couldn't.
Suddenly, a force knocked me to the ground and I felt arms wrap around me. I struggled against him. I couldn't let him take me back. I kicked and punched and his grip loosened just enough for me to get away, but I wasn't fast enough and pulled down again. I whimpered. I was scared. I didn't want to go back.
"It's OK. I've got you. You're going to be alright," he whispered comfortingly. I couldn't stand it, tears began to fall and pretty soon I sobbing. He held me close and I hugged him tightly. Sobs wracked my body as he held me there, still whispering to me that I was ok now and no one was going to hurt me again.
"She alright?" I heard Ryan ask.
"She will be," Emmet replied. "She will be."
**Well hello my lovely friends of Noxland! I am back I guess for a little while. Not sure how often I'll update, but for now, I have been bitten by the writing bug. Let me know what you think.. and suggestions are definitely welcome. Maybe a new name too... Couldn't think of anything that fit the story**
