Colm scrubbed a hand over his exhausted and sleep deprived face. He hadn't shaved in the two days that Meredith had been missing. Her parents had come to stay in D.C. as the investigation was on going. He felt as if he was only half existing as worry and frustration had set in heavily. He had been in touch with Sharon as to what was happening and she had given him the okay to stay on and do what he could. The second day was quickly coming to a close and he had to get out of the house, he had to be of some use. They hadn't been contacted by anyone, no leads had turned up, but he knew that she would fight to stay alive. What ever the situation, Meredith would fight. That notion helped ease the knot that had taken up residence in his chest since she went missing.
****************************************************
Meredith felt the bruises and split lip, she was sure that something was cracked or broken as she felt pain when she breathed. Her mouth felt like she had swallowed cotton and her body ached. She had only been given a miniscule amout to eat and drink, he was torturing her, trying to break her down, but it only made her fight harder against him.
"Are you ready to reconsider yet?", Kelly said leaning against the wall of the small room.
She glared at him, hoping he could see the hatred in her eyes,"You're going to have to kill me, Kelly. Because I will never be with you again. You think doing this will make me love you? You think hitting me or starving me will make a difference?"
"It's a funny thing, love", he crossed his arms,"because if your new fiance loved you so much, wouldnt he have come for you by now. I mean you have to wonder?"
She shook her head as tears pooled in her eyes,"He does love me and as soon as they find out where we are, he will come."
"I don't know, Mer", he crossed the room and stood in front of her,"What do you see in him? What did he see in you? Because I don't understand either one."
The tremors of fear rolled through her as she kept her eyes on his,"What did you ever see in me?", she turned the question,"Why do you want me so badly."
"Because I don't want anyone else to have you", he ran a thumb over the cut on her lip,"Even if it means you don't make it out of this whole thing."
"So you would kill me", she said as a tear escaped.
He studied her for a moment,"Not sure yet. But all that aside, I did bring you water", he sat the bottle on the bed

"You have to have gotten something by now", Colm said to the detective who stood in the living room. It had now been eight days since Meredith had gone missing.
"That's why I'm here", the man said trying to calm him down,"There was a cell phone call made from Lieutenant Severide's phone to the fire house today.
"Oh God", Meredith's mother clung to her husband.
"He didn't stay on very long, but it was long enough for us to get a location."
"So, what now?", her father asked.
"For now, you folks will wait here. We will be in touch, we already have a SWAT team enroute to the location."
"I need to be there", Colm said quickly.
"We know you mean well, sir", the detective shook his head,"But having family or loved ones at the scene can make it very difficult."
He nodded,"Please don't let anything happen to her."
"We won't", he attempted to reassure them all,"I'll be in touch", he said as he showed himself out.
****************************************************
Meredith was wishing for death, she had lost all sense of time. All she knew was the darkness and the pain in her body. She knew she had lost blood and that something was very wrong with her breathing. She had to nearly gasp for air. Her body was limp as the light came through the door.
"Still hanging in there", Kelly knelt next to the ratty mattress.
"Just kill me", she wheezed,"Be a man................and..........do it."
"Oh Mer," he sighed,"That would make it too easy at this point. You have about a day if you're lucky, but I do know how you like to fight."
She felt the tears sliding down her cheeks,"You're a coward, you want the control and you hate the fact I won't give it to you."
"You already have", he said standing up. As he closed the door there was a loud explosion and she could see smoke swirling under the door.
"Colm?", she whispered as there were more explosions and finally the door was kicked open.
"Clear!", a voice yelled.
"Meredith Morgan", a man knelt down removing is mask.
"Yes", she gasped,"I'm............Meredith."
"Where are my medics?", he said into a radio, he listened for response and turned his attention back to her,"Stay with me Meredith, stay with me."
"Okay", she attempted to keep her eyes focused but the room was starting to get darker and darker as she fought for air. Her lungs were burning and she couldn't get air into them.
"She's seizing", the man yelled as the paramedics rushed in with a gourney.

Colm paced the hallway as Carla, Meredith's sister sat with her parents, George and Myra. The three of them held hands and talked quietly. He didn't want to disturb them as they all barely knew each other. All they knew of him was that he was taking Meredith to Ireland, they hadn't even been told about the engagement. Meredith had been taken straigh into surgery upon arrival. It had been nearly seven hours since they had rushed her in. They hadn't been given any information since that point.
"Colm?", Carla touched his shoulder.
"Yeah", he turned.
"I know that we hardly know each other, but I wanted to tell you thank you for everything that you have done for my sister. She has changed so much since you came into her life and it has made me so happy."
"I love her", he said as his voice caught in this throat.
"I know you do", she hugged him,"I know she loves you too, I can hear it when she talks about you and see it when you two are together. So, no matter what happens tonight, thank you."
He nodded,"She's a fighter, that's for sure."
"Oh, I know", she laughed as they both swiped at the tears on their cheeks.
"Meredith Morgan's family?", a man dressed in dark blue scrubs approached them.
"That's us", George said standing up.
"I'm doctor Connors and I was your daughter's surgeon."
"How is she?", Myra asked clinging to her husband's arm.
"She is critical, but stable. She was severly dehydrated and malnourished. She sustained three broken ribs, a large puncture to the lungs, a ruptured spleen, as well as a broken ankle and arm. We have her sedated right now, the next seventy two hours will be critical."
"Can we see her?', Carla asked.
"She's in the ICU, so one person at a time."
"I'll wait out here,"Colm said,"You all go first." he watched them follow the doctor and sank into the chair as his emotions finally over came him.

"Colm", Carla said touching his shoulder.
"Yeah", he looked up through blood shot eyes.
"I'm going to take mom and dad home, if you want to go in and see Mer."
"Sure", he stood up. They all said their goodbyes and he made his way to the intensive care unit. He checked in at the nurse's station and was shown to Meredith's room. The room was kept at low light, the machines beeped hauntingly and he could hear the respirator that helped her to breathe,"Hey beautiful", he said placing a kiss against her forehead. She had two blankets that covered her midsection where the surgery had occurred, he could only assume they were to keep her warm and help with the healing. He felt the hot tears well in his eyes as he saw the bruises on her face and the cast on her arm,"I'm so sorry", he said,"I should have woken up, I should have done more." He kissed her cheek and gently stroked her hand as he sat by her bedside. When a nurse came in on rounds he stepped outside and called Ryan giving him the latest update. He resumed his vigil, not daring to sleep.
***************************************************
Kelly had been gunned down the night that Meredith was rescued. Colm and her family had nearly rejoiced at the news because it meant that she was free, that he would never be able to hurt her again. Now they had to wait for her to wake up. It had passed the seventy two hour mark and still she had yet to open her eyes. The doctors and nurses checked on her frequently and assured them that she was getting stronger and that it would be any day.
"It's been a week", Colm said to Ryan as they talked on the phone.
"But they said she's doing better right?", he replied.
"Yeah, but it's been a week, she should have woken up already."
"Listen lad, I know it's hard. I've been where she is now and you can't control what your body and your brain decides. The biggest thing is to know that she is getting better and any day now, she'll wake up."
"I know", he sighed,"Thanks for being the go between with Sharon and everything. I kow I am supposed to be there to stat rehearsals."
"Don't worry about it, you'll catch on quick enough. Besides we still have a few months."
He was silent for a moment,"If she needs rehab or anything, I'm not leaving her."
"Relax boy'o, just wait and see what happens."
"Thanks again", he hung up and finished packing the small bag for Meredith. He looked at his phone as it buzzed,"Carla?", he said quickly.
"She's awake and asking for you," there was a smile in her voice.
"I'm on my way", he grabbed the keys and the over night bag. It took everything in him not to speed down every road he took.

Meredith sipped on the water that her sister held for her, due to the lack of food and exercise over the last two weeks of the ordeal she was physically weak,"Thank you", she smiled tiredly,"Is he on his way?"
"He'll be here soon", Carla replied sitting on the edge of the bed,"I have never seen someone so devoted to another person. He barely left your side, we had to force him to go home and sleep or to go out and get food."
"Found a good one, didn't I?"
"You did", she smoothed her hair back,"The bruising has faded a lot, your face is almost normal again."
"Thanks", she laughed with a wince.
"Careful", she patted her leg through the blanket,"Mom and dad will be here tonight."
"Are they okay? I know with daddy's heart."
"They're fine", she waved her off,"Mom even made him see the doctor yesterday just to make sure", she turned as she heard a knock and motioned for Colm to come in,"I think I need coffee", she gave her sister a wink.
"Thanks", Meredith squeezed her hand,"Hey there", she looked at her fiance, drinking in the site of him. His face was drawn and tired, his eyes held dark circles from the lack of sleep. But his blue eyes glittered with happiness and she knew hers mirrored the same.
"Hi", he said sitting her bag on the floor and the flowers he carried on the small night stand,"How are you feeling?"
"Not in tip top shape, but I'll get there", she reached for his hand.
He stepped towards her, wrapping her cold, small hand in his,"I didn't know if I would see you again."
"I know", she nodded as a tear finally spilled from her lashes.
"None of that now", he kissed her tenderly.
"Sorry", she sniffed.
"No more apologizing", he cupped her cheek in his hand,"Here, let me do something", he carefully shifted her in the bed and then lay next to her,"I've missed doing this", he said wrapping her in his arms.
"I've never felt safer", she said quietly as her head rest against his chest. Something inside of her released as he held her, every tear she had held back during her time in the dark room with Kelly, every ounce of fight she had kept up, every pain she had endured, it was all released in sobs against her fiance's chest. The harder she cried, the tighter his arms were.
"He'll never hurt you again", he whispered kissing the top of her head. He held her until the tears had subsided and her eyes had closed from exhaustion. He looked down and saw her hands fisted in the material of his shirt, he pulled the blankets over the both of them and lay there afraid to sleep or move for fear that she would be gone again when he awoke. It didn't last for long though, the sleep deprivation he had been fighting soon won out and his eye lids slid to a close.
