This is a story that mkk59 and I co-wrote for a group of friends. We thought that you might all enjoy reading it as well. It all started with one little idea and update and it grew to a whole lot more! Anyway, Enjoy!!!
"Flight 104 leaving New Delhi and heading to Sydney is departing from gate 44 now" a slightly bored airport employee's voice was heard saying over the loudspeaker at the minimally crowded airport.
It was a late evening flight and an assorted group of tourists and Aussie natives were scattered in the seats around the gate entrance.
All of them stirred, grabbed their luggage and proceeded to show their tickets to the attendant then head down the tunnel onto the plane.
It was one of the smallest planes that made trips there and back over the ocean.
The pilot George Donaldson had boarded not long before along with his co-pilot Declan O'Donoghue.
This was their last flight of the season before they headed back to Ireland for a much needed vacation and visit home with their families.
The flight attendants Colm and Rachel were also glad to be having time off soon.
Colm planned on spending it with a few of his mates before he headed to college to study for his teaching degree.
Rachel, was in her early 20's, she had graduated college not long before. She actually had her sister Arianna along on the flight as a passenger, they were going to be spending some time together in Australia just relaxing and being tourists.
The other passengers made up quite an interesting combination of different professions, ages, and from all different parts of life.
The male passengers included:
Paul, who was a successful business man, his successful marketing company made him incredibly rich. This enabled him to travel for pleasure whenever he choose. He sat back in his seat in first class and smoothing out his expensive suit settled down for a long and comfortable flight.
Emmet, a young doctor just out of medical school, he was on his way to Oz in an attempt to establish himself as a town doctor in one of the smaller towns closer to the outback.
Ryan was an accountant, he was headed to finish up details on a very complicated business case. He loved having challenges like this and was looking forward to getting to it as soon as the plane landed.
Keith was a wanderer, basically he was traveling for the fun of it. He had run off from home when he was younger, having a stash of money, and making more here and there along the way to get him to a new place when he felt the urge to move on.
Damian was traveling to meet up with the rest of his family. He was heading home to Australia after a school trip with mates from college to Europe. His dark head bobbed in time with the music playing through his ear buds.
There was another young lad Daniel who was traveling back home with his strict nanny Sharon. He was a bit bored at the moment and every now and then his blond head was seen poking over the top of his seat as he glanced at the other passengers.
Last but not least there was Neil, He was traveling with his Uncle Phil to go and collect and record various Australian artists and to collect old folk songs. His looks made others assume that he was himself in a rock band.
Some of the female passengers included:
Danielle or Dandy as her family and friends called her. She was traveling with her younger brother Daniel. They made eye contact over the seat a few times trying to come up with some plot without Sharon noticing.
Linda was a Canadian, she was heading off on Holiday with her friend Sasha. She was working undercover for the Canadian detective force on the trail of smugglers.
Sasha was unaware that her friend was using her as a cover. But she had a plan of her own, to find some handsome roving, rugged man from the outback. Though she was willing to settle for someone like the dark haired CPA a few seats ahead.
Bonnie was a nurse, she was being transferred to an important post in a major Sydney hospital. She was looking forward to the change of scenery and the OZ weather.
Misty was vacationing model/small film star. Heading to OZ without her retinue and somewhere sunny and warm where she would probably not be recognized.
Jen was a writer for a travel journal, she was heading from Sydney to New Zealand doing a survey and write up on some of the less known beauties and villages around.
The last three were traveling together as a research group who dabbled in things from Ghost-hunting to adventuring and collecting things from artifacts to stories.
Amy the leader, was a teacher taking a break for some experience outside the classroom, she was on the watch for any new adventures and was always the first into a new and exciting situation.
Mary was the youngest of them, was only in college, being only in her late teens, she was always coming up with wild plots and schemes. She was also the one who did all of the research and planning.
Liss who was a Psychologist, was the glue between the others. She always was able to work and sort out any irregularities in plans as well as organize everything from travel to shopping. This was needed as Amy and Mary often butted heads on who was in charge.
The chatter of the passengers on the plane diminished once the fasten seat belt lights lit up and the plane prepared for takeoff.
Some talking resumed after the plane was in the air, but most had diminished an hour or so into the flight as passengers read, slept, or listened to music.
It wasn't until they were over the middle of Australia that some turbulence began to shake the plane.
At first it was only noticed by the more alert passengers, as it was dark out and most were asleep by then.
Flashes of lightning was seen out of the windows when suddenly a loud crash split the air as a bolt of lightning hit the left wing.
The plane jarred and everyone was shaken awake by the impact and loud crash of thunder which followed.
George and Declan fought to keep control of the plane but knew it was too badly damaged to keep in the air much longer.
Rachel and Colm did their best to calm the passengers, some of which had gotten a little hysterical, and try to make them brace for the impact that was shortly to follow.
Miraculously the crew was able to land the plane in one piece, though it jarred everyone badly and the windows shattered as they bounced along the rugged ground.
Coming to a stop hundreds of yards from where it first touched down.
Comments please!!! We love to hear what you say!!
