On December 7th 2011, I had the opportunity to see Celtic Thunder Live at the Fox Theater in Detroit, MI. I was still a relatively new fan to their music but had been listening to their CD Heritage every chance I got. I kinda remember seeing them on PBS in 2008 cause I remember Damian singing Come By The Hills. I was not a devote Thunderhead at that point.
Easter 2011 I was watching Detroit Public Television and there was Ryan Kelly and George Donaldson with Fred Nehat. They were promoting their latest concert. I was really taken with Ryan Kelly there was just something special about him. I'm not sure what it was it could have been his accent or those eyes. My mom was gonna get tickets to their concert but I just couldn't see her paying that much for two tickets, so I told her not now that I'd wait.
During the interview I think they were talking about Neil moving from his place as the lead guitar to being out front with the lads. I think they might have mentioned Emmet but I wasn't paying too much attention I was so mesmerized by Ryan Kelly. It was the Heritage concert they were promoting. I loved every bit of the show and I guess that's when I fell for Neil as well.
It wasn't long after that I was reading on the CT website that Ryan was stepping out of the spotlight for a while. I was heart broken. I was hoping to see him perform live when Celtic Thunder came to the Fox in December. The day I read that blog was the saddest day of my life. No one really told why he was leaving but that's when Neil took over for Ryan.
After that day I immersed myself in all things Neil Byrne. I went on YouTube to listen to anything he had uploaded. I loved listening to him sing. I even loved watching him play the guitar. I would watch his hands with a new found admiration. I'm sure that sounds weird but I loved watching his hands.
When Riverdance first starting touring the USA. My brother and I saw them at The Masonic Temple in Detroit, MI. I was so fascinated with the dancers and the precision of the steps I paid more attention to their feet than the performance as a whole. I was in awe of how well they worked together as a whole.
I consider myself to be very observant about everything around me. I pay attention to the tiniest detail when most people usually overlook it. I see what other's can't or won't see. It's like I have an uncanny sixth sense. I'm not psychic but I've been known to see things happen.

I remember signing up for celticthunder.ie website. I didn't go to the pub chat much but I did read all I could from questions and answers posted in the forum section. I also added all the lads of CT to my Facebook so I could keep tabs on them. As I said before I started going to YouTube to watch videos that Neil had uploaded. I was taken in by Neil.
There wasn't a lot of Celtic Thunder videos that had been uploaded so I would watch the acoustic videos of Neil. I'm so glad he moved out of the background he's got an amazing voice. Once more CT videos were uploaded I would watch them. I loved 500 Miles when George sings it.
I've even started participating in live chats with Paul Byrom who left the group in November 2010. I was lucky to get a shot out from Paul when his chat had crashed I was the first one to sign back in. It was pretty cool. I did recently participate in a Q&A on Twitter with George which was pretty cool cause I finally got a question answered. I did get to be a part of a couple live chats with Neil which was awesome seeing that he is one of my loves.
In answer to someone I met in the Pub, yes Aeryn you can like more than one. I think I'm living proof because I like, love, adore, and are completely nuts for two. I don't consider myself to be a stalker just an equal opportunity lover.
Now back to the story of how I finally got to meet my two loves.
At the time I didn't have the money myself to see Celtic Thunder Live because I was still paying on my car which I paid off in either May or June. Once I started to accumulate money I went to check out the tickets I could get on Ticketmaster.com. The tickets I was finding for the highest price were really great but I still wasn't able to afford them just yet so I waited and I waited.
I would occasionally check back to see if I could still get amazing seats on the main floor. I wanted to be on the main floor and not in the balcony. I was a fan of main floor seating at the Fox after having seen a few Broadway shows there in the past. I was reading more post in the forum. I didn't check Ticketmaster everyday but would from time to time just to see what I could get. I needed two tickets for the December 7th show.

On May 24, 2011 Sharon posted in a blog that there would be a surprise singer that would be appearing with the lads in St John's in Newfoundland. She also mentioned this was the first and last piece of information we'd be getting about him until you see him on the stage and hear him sing. Apparently, this was a surprise worth waiting for kinda like a Christmas present your dying to open. I guess I along with other CT fans would have to wait to see for ourselves who this new person was. She did mention that she met this person before but that the other lads hadn't which adds to the mystery of this guest performer.
During the summer I didn't check the for tickets as much because I didn't like feeling disappointed. I might have checked only twice during the summer. On August 21st Damian announced that he would be stepping down due to his new role on Glee. On August 22, 2011 Sharon announce that Ryan would be joining Celtic Thunder on tour. News of Ryan's return was the greatest birthday gift I could have ever gotten. At the end of August the lads would appear on QVC which was another ritual they had with the QVC audience besides St. Patrick's Day.
Only three more months before the Celtic Thunder concert at the Fox Theater in Detroit. I continued checking Ticketmaster at least once a month but the closer I got to CT D-Day I would check it more frequently. I learned that it was possible to still get good tickets the closer to the concert. Apparently, all non-pledged tickets are returned to the venue which is great for people who couldn't afford to make a pledge for CT concert tickets.
Before I continue with my story I need to give you a bit of back story. I'm 39 years old, I live in a not so good area of Detroit, I am the only the oldest of two. I live with my parents, brother and our dog. We've lived in the same house for 40 years and the area isn't what it once was. I still have to get permission to go anywhere after dark which seems weird but its the truth. My mom doesn't like being home by herself even if my dad is home.
I knew I'd have to ask my mom if I could go to see Celtic Thunder on December 7th. I wouldn't be able to go alone which is why I needed two tickets instead of one. I was lucky my brother did like Celtic Thunder. Back in 2010 I discovered an ancestor from Ireland but when I went back to retrieve more information about this person it was as if the entry had disappeared. I knew that the Padgetts had come from Ulster, County Down, Northern Ireland.
- more tomorrow I'm getting tired. its time to go to bed.

- a short update its late and I just finished updating Once In a Lifetime.
So now I had a better idea of why there was such a strong attachment to Ryan when I saw him and George on PBS on Easter. My ancestor came from Northern Ireland. County Down isn't too far from County Tyrone. I always knew there was more of me that was Irish besides my name. When I was young I wanted to change my name cause no one knew how to pronounce my name. Now that I'm older I love my name, Colleen, not only is it in the dictionary but if you can get an Irish Lad to pronounce your name it sounds so much better.
I kept finding the same tickets every time I looked at the end of November so I figured they would still be there when I was ready to purchase them. My mom finally gave in to my wants because if she didn't let me go I was planning to make life miserable for them. I had to play my trump card. My mom didn't want me to complain because I didn't get to go so she decided it would be best to let me go.
I never told her the price of the tickets because if I did she'd say, "why are you wasting your money." I kept the total price of the tickets and parking a secret from her. Friday, December 2nd I went to my bank to withdraw the total amount I needed. I had to then put the money in my brother's bank because I was gonna use his debit card to make the purchase since I didn't have one.
Finally on Monday the money was available in his account. We didn't go to his bank until after the cut off for deposits to be posted on Friday. Monday night I logged in to the Ticketmaster.com server to see what tickets I would be able to get.
- more tomorrow. i'm really tired and its late super late...
