You know the drill, I don't know Ryan's parents and all that jazz... ___________________________________________________________________________________
Four months later...
“Home sweet home,” said Cori as Ryan unlocked the door. She had insisted on staying with the tour until the end and it hadn’t been easy. The long plane ride had helped her catch up on her sleep but she was thrilled to know that she wouldn’t have to travel anymore.
Right on cue Molly came flying down the hall and Ryan knelt to meet her, laughing and scratching her behind the ears as she covered his face with kisses. Cori had slowly lowered herself to her knees and Molly stopped short when she went to greet her. The dog sniffed at her hand warily and gently nudged her swollen stomach. “She knows something has changed, I smell different to her,” said Cori while carefully patting Molly’s head. “It’s okay girl, it’s still me. I’m going to have a baby and you’ll have to take good care of her okay?” The dog seemed to think about it then agreed with a ‘woof’ before flopping down and insisting on having her belly rubbed.
After indulging the dog for a few more minutes Ryan stood and helped Cori to her feet, her knees popping in protest. “Where is my cat?” she asked after a minute. Rory had adopted her the first time that she had visited and even though he was Ryan’s cat, his heart belonged to Cori.
“Probably asleep on the bed, as usual.”
“I think that is a wonderful idea. I’m going to lay down for awhile then I’ll help you fix dinner, okay?”
Ryan nodded and kissed her cheek, letting his hand rest on her stomach for a moment before she slipped away. She hadn’t been gone long when her voice got his attention. “Ryan? Can you come here?”
Frowning Ryan headed towards the bedroom. Cori was standing in the doorway of the spare room, her hand over her mouth. “Look.”
When they were married they had done some rearranging and remodeling of the house. Ryan’s junk room had become Cori’s dance studio. They had ripped up the carpet and installed hardwood floors, there were mirrors on three of the walls, and a barre was wrapped around the room. The guest room had been cleared and had more or less sat empty for months, neither one could decide what to do with it.
After Cori had announced that she was expecting they both knew that it would be the perfect nursery. Ryan had explained the idea to his parents, asking if they could help paint the room and assemble the furniture while they were on tour. He and Cori had planned on finishing the room once they returned.
Ryan’s eyes widened when he took in the room.
It was finished.
The walls were a sunny yellow, Cori didn’t particularly like pink, with delicate lace curtains hanging over the window. All of the furniture was white and everything was set up and ready to go as if the baby had already arrived. The stroller was parked in one corner and was filled with stuffed animals. The blanket that one of the fans had knitted was draped over the side of the crib and a very familiar rocking chair sat in the other corner.
“This was Gran’s chair,” said Ryan while going over to touch the object. He had many fond memories of this chair and knew that it had sat in his mother’s bedroom for ages. It had been repainted a bright white to match the other furniture and cushions made of soft yellow material padded the back and the seat.
Cori sank into the chair with a sigh and rocked slightly. “It’s perfect,” she said while resting her hands on her stomach.
The two stayed there for a long time, amazed that Constance and John did all of this for them. The changing table was already stocked and the closet was full of outfits as were the dresser drawers. All that was missing was the baby but she wouldn’t be ready to make an appearance for another few months.
Cori finally pushed herself out of the chair and squeezed Ryan’s hand. “I’m going to go lay down before I fall asleep in that chair.” Her husband chuckled and let his hand rest against her back for a moment before she slipped into the bedroom.
Ryan had been right, Rory was sound asleep on Ryan’s pillow. Cori giggled and the cat raised his head, greeting her with a meow. She slowly changed into a pair of sweats and one of Ryan’s old shirts before crawling under the covers. Rory stretched and insisted that she pet him and Cori was happy to indulge her friend. Soon sleep began to take over and she drifted off, calmed by the familiar scents of home and the loud purring next to her ear.
Cori slept for a little over two hours and would have slept for longer except that the little one was performing a tap dance on her bladder. With a sigh she rolled out of bed and headed towards the bathroom. Even though she was tired she knew she needed to get up or she’d never go to sleep that night.
Walking into the living room she couldn’t help but smile. Ryan was sound asleep with his head tipped back against the couch and Molly was snoozing as well, her head propped on his leg. Part of her wanted to snap a picture to give the fans a glimpse of the glamorous rock star life but she decided against it. This was her moment to enjoy, no one else’s.
Standing behind the couch she slowly ran her fingers through his mussed hair, loving that he turned his head into her touch. “Time to wake up, handsome. The munchkin and I are hungry.”
Ryan slowly stirred and smiled when he heard Cori’s voice. Tipping his head back further he caught her gaze and grinned. “How long was I out?”
“No idea, I just got up myself. I believe the little one is taking after her uncle Keith, all she wants to do is sleep and eat!”
Ryan chuckled and slowly stood, careful not to disturb Molly’s nap. He followed Cori into the kitchen and stuck his head into the fridge while she began a pot of tea. “I love my mother,” he said while emerging with a large white dish.
“Is that your mother’s stew?” Ryan nodded. “I love your mother too. I swear, that’s one of the reasons why I married you.” Ryan made a face and Cori kissed him with a laugh.
Soon the stew was warmed up and they both dug in, appreciative of a home cooked meal after so many months on the road. Neither one talked much, they were content to merely be in each others’ presence. Cori was thrilled that she was eating for two and devoured two huge helpings of the food. Ryan laughed but he was used to it, even a pregnant Cori couldn’t keep up with Keith’s high metabolism.
After dinner they piled the dishes into the dishwasher and headed into the living room. Cori sank down with a sigh and tried to hide her yawn. She had slept all afternoon but was still exhausted.
Ryan gently touched her shoulder and smiled as he settled himself on the couch. “Come on, love, let’s watch a movie and rest. We can unpack tomorrow.”
Cori nodded and waited until Ryan was comfortable before curling up against him. “Am I too heavy?” she asked as Ryan rolled his eyes.
It was a struggle for both of them to stay awake and eventually they called it a night around nine. Cori settled herself on her side and Ryan wrapped an arm around her waist, coming to rest on her stomach. He made a surprised sound when he felt a kick against his hand. “She’s glad to be home too,” Cori murmured sleepily and Ryan slowly rubbed her stomach as she drifted off.

The next morning Ryan went for a very cold run while Cori fed the animals and started to unpack. Ryan had insisted that she wait until he returned but she shoved him out the door, determined to do as much as possible. She had everything put away except what went in the bottom drawer, she just couldn’t reach it anymore.
Ryan returned, shaking fresh show from his hair and making Cori squeal when he put his cold hands on her bare arms. “You brat! I shouldn’t make you breakfast for that!”
Ryan laughed and tried to look contrite. “I was just hoping you’d warm me up.”
Cori somehow kept a straight face as she pointed at her swollen stomach. “This is what happened last time you asked me to warm you up.” Ryan laughed and she giggled. “Now go and get cleaned up. Oh, and can you put the things on top of the dresser in the bottom drawer? I can’t reach it.” Ryan nodded and headed down the hall.
After breakfast the two bundled up, Cori knew she’d be shedding layers all afternoon, and got ready to head over to see the parents. It was snowing softly but it wasn’t sticking yet. If it kept up like this Ryan would have to shovel the sidewalk and driveway in the morning.
They pulled into the familiar driveway and Ryan helped Cori out of the car, keeping a steady arm around her in case the walkway was slick. He opened the door and closed his eyes in bliss. His mother was cooking and the house smelled heavenly.
“Mum? Dad? Anyone home?” he called while taking Cori’s coat and hanging it up.
A moment later they both appeared and even though Ryan received many hugs and kisses, his mother was focused on Cori. “Cori, you look beautiful!” Constance exclaimed while rubbing her stomach gently. “How are you feeling?”
“A little tired but I’m doing well,” she replied while being led into the living room. She lowered herself onto the couch and Ryan quickly sat next to her before his mother could take the spot.
“Has Ryan been taking good care of you?” Constance asked while shooting her son a look.
“He’s been wonderful,” said Cori while taking his hand in hers. “He rubs my feet and my back, carries my luggage, does the dishes. I could get used to this!” Ryan shook his head ruefully and kissed Cori’s temple.
“We both wanted to thank you for finishing the nursery for us. You didn’t have to do that!” said Ryan.
John waved it off. “It was our pleasure. Your mum was glad to have me out of the house for awhile while I painted and put together the furniture.”
“And I loved decorating! It’s been so long since I set up a nursery and I didn’t want you to have to deal with the stress of rearranging the furniture. Do you like it?”
“It’s perfect,” said Cori. “And Ryan said you gave us his grandmother’s rocking chair. That was so generous of you but you didn’t have to do that.”
Constance smiled and squeezed her husband’s hand. “That chair is meant for rocking babies. My baby is all grown up and none of the other siblings wanted it so I thought it would be perfect for you.” Cori smiled and dipped her head in appreciation.
“So son, how have you been dealing with this? I know it’s a big change for you but Cori hasn’t driven you mad yet has she?”
Ryan laughed and wrapped an arm around Cori’s shoulders. “She’s been fine. The mood swings were a little difficult to get used to but I learned to just keep me mouth shut and I’d stay out of trouble!”
“Actually so far everything has been going really well,” said Cori. “And I’ve done my best to keep my emotions in check but this sot made me cry on stage the other night.”
---------------------------------------------------------------
The last show of the tour was always bittersweet. The guys hated leaving each other and would miss seeing their fans every night. This time it was also more difficult because Ryan would be MIA for awhile after the baby was born. The fans were gracious and had come to love Cori but it was still difficult for them to see their favorite singer step down for a time.
After Ireland’s Call the guys had come back onto the stage and were joined by Sharon and Phil as they introduced the musicians behind them. Finally Ryan was handed the microphone and he couldn’t contain his smile as he spoke. “It is my pleasure to introduce our brilliant choreographer…and my beautiful wife, Cori Kelly.” The audience went bananas as Ryan helped Cori climb the stairs to the main stage and kept a steady hand on her back as she bowed. He smiled brilliantly at her before leaning down to press a kiss gently to her stomach. Tears immediately filled her eyes and the fans went wild.
---------------------------------------------------------------
“It was just so touching that I couldn’t help it,” said Cori, her voice catching again.
Ryan kissed her gently and squeezed her tight. Across the room Constance and John watched the exchange. They had often wondered if their son would ever settle down and they couldn’t have been happier when Cori entered his life. She had brought out a side of him that they had never seen before and they would forever be grateful.
Cori wiped her eyes and laughed before looking back up. “There was actually another reason that we came over today, well besides to eat your food, Constance. We picked out a name.” Cori glanced up at her husband and he nodded. “Lynay Jade.”
“That’s beautiful!” exclaimed Constance. “How did you come up with it?”
“Gran’s name was Lynn and Cori’s was Nadine so we pushed them together to get Lynay. And this little girl is the most precious thing we could think of, so it was only appropriate to name her after a precious stone, Jade.”
“It sounds perfect,” said John. “And speaking of my wife’s cooking, I believe that lunch is ready.”
Ryan helped Cori up and she was swept away by Constance. He turned when he felt his father’s hand on his shoulder. “I’m proud of you son.”
