Here is the next update!! Enjoy!!
"Now what did you want to say to me Keith?" Cecily asked as she sat down on a fallen tree and watched him pace nervously back and forth in front of her as if not at all sure of what to say or how to begin.
"Cecily, do you be rememberin that time at the well...?" Keith began, Cecily nodded not at all sure what he was leading up to.
"You promised me that you wouldn't tell anyone a very important secret of mine," continued Keith.
Cecily now knew exactly where he was going with this conversation, "Keith you know that I will never tell anyone that you are the Highwayman!" she exclaimed.
"I know, to be honest with ya I never expected ya to keep that promise so well," admitted Keith.
"What has come up that has made you question my ability to do so?" asked Cecily though she knew, she did want Keith to find out that she had been spying so she had decided to play it safe and pretend to know nothing.
"Well I am going ta be pullin off a bigger heist then I have ever done before and I am very worried about it," Keith said, "One I don't know if I will be able ta do it, and the entire village and our life we have now may depend on my success, and Two cause that band of gypsy's are back and I am afraid that they might complicate things,"Keith finished.
"But what does that have to do with me?" asked Cecily, "I am not going to tell on you no matter what, even if I don't agree with your methods at times."
"I don't want you to go near those gypsy's at all Cece," said Keith, "I haven't forgotten what happened those couple years."
"Keith that is my business, and I really don't see what you have against gypsy's and noblemen."said Cecily, something had always puzzled her about Keith, she remembered his mother a bit and how refined she had been, and Keith had always had a certain dashing air and grand manners which were even more refined even then Paul's.
Keith looked at Cecily not sure what to say, finally he cleared his throat nervously and said almost as if to himself, "Well I be supposin someone should know n case something happens..."
"Keith what are you talking about? I know you have some secret, but nothing is going to happen to you!" Cecily said.
"It figures ya know that I have a secret, ya do seem to be knowin everythin goin on in the village an then some," Keith commented, "But how ya keep all that ta yerself is beyond me."
"Now why do you have such a grudge against noblemen?" asked Cecily, "I know that is something far beyond the fact that they are not kind to the rest of us lowly peasants," she finished sarcastically.
"Well ya see I am not jus one of the lowly peasants..." Keith said, "I was born a nobleman's son."
Cecily stared at him in shock, this was the first time that anyone had ever told her that she was speechless about, "But you have been in the village for as long as I can remember," she said, still trying to grasp what she had just been told.
"It's a long story," said Keith with a sigh as he sat down next to Cecily, "Ya see me Da was a nobleman and he and me Mum used to own extensive property somewhere around...."
"What happened?" asked Cecily gently, she could tell that this was a painful topic to Keith by the look on his face.
"Well me Da was killed durin a gypsy raid," said Keith his voice full of bitterness, "My uncle said that he tried to save him but couldn't, then instead of helpin me Mum ta keep the estate runnin he took it over an things got so bad me Mum left with me ta start a new life as she didna want me growin up under me uncle's thumb."
"Oh Keith I'm so sorry!" exclaimed Cecily tears in her eyes, "I had no idea....."
"I'm really sorry that I didn't understand before," said Cecily laying her hand gently on his shoulder and giving it a squeeze, "How long ago did all of this happen?"
"It happened about 18 years ago now, jus before ya came to the village, I was jus 7 at the time," Keith said, "Now da ya understand why I want ta keep ya safe an make sure that at least someone be knowin the truth about me if something were ta happen."
"Yes I do understand," said Cecily, "Don't worry I am not going to do anything stupid, I am just worried about you, You have to promise me that you won't do anything rash, it is important that we save the village, but not at the expense of you," she finished.
"Have you ever thought about going back and claiming your property and land though?" she asked curiously hoping she would not offend Keith.
"I have but I do na want ta be livin that type of life let alone goin to see me rotten uncle again, besides I dinna think that I can be provin who I am at the moment. Please dinna be worryin about me Cece," he said kindly noticing the look of pity and worry that was on her face.
"I'm sorry but I can't help it," said Cecily with a sigh, Please do promise no unnecessary risks," she pleaded.
"Fine, I promise I'll na be doin anythin that ye wouldn't do," he said with a grin and a wink.
"Oh you ," said Cecily with a smile as she shook her head.
Keith gave her a quick kiss on the cheek and then ran off toward the village leaving Cecily sitting there to think about all of what she had just heard and worrying about what might happen very soon.
