Okay here is the next update!! More surprises...LOL Enjoy!!
As they stood in the dimly lit barn Keith said, "Seriously Cecily, you should not be wandering around at this hour," he insisted.
"Keith the more that you delay telling me the worse I imagine what you might have done and the harder that I will be on you," Cecily said still staring at Keith.
"I just held up a nobleman's carriage," Keith mumbled, eyes lowered not wanting to see the disapproval and hint of disappointment present in Cecily's eyes.
"What nobleman? and how much?" Cecily asked continuing to question him.
"You know the mysterious one, and no more then he could afford to lose," sneered Keith.
"One of these days you are going to get recognized Keith," said Cecily, "With all the traveling and trading that you do around these parts it is bound to happen sooner or later as you are not invisible when you pull off those raids."
"That makes you sound as if you are almost concerned about my safety," Keith said with a twinkle in his eye.
"You know that I don't approve of this Keith and yes I am worried about you making it back without a hangman's noose or a bullet attached to you," Cecily said sternly, "And the only reason that I have never said anything is because you are one of my best friends."
"Can't we be more then friends Cece?" asked Keith as he stabled his horse and walked towards where she was standing slowly.
"Stop right there Keith," Cecily ordered him sternly.
She had to admit to herself that the tall, blonde, and dashing Keith dressed in his highwayman outfit and walking towards her had made her heart race.
But standing up straight she said,"Now is not the time to ask something like that Keith."
He stopped right in front of her and looked straight down into her eyes.
Cecily tried but couldn't pull her eyes away from his gaze.
"Haven't you even for a moment ever considered the possibility that something more then friendship could ever happen to us?" he asked still staring at her as if trying to discover the truth in her eyes.
"Keith I......" began Cecily, Just then though Keith bent down and just before his lips were about to meet hers Cecily heard a gasp behind her and whirled around to see Katherine standing holding a lantern in the door way of the barn.
The shocked look on her face and the way she was staring at them was enough for Cecily to realize what she must be thinking.
Keith stared down at the ground and shuffled his feet hoping that in her shock at finding them together in the barn in the middle of the night that Katherine wouldn't notice his outfit.
Cecily meanwhile had turned bright crimson and was at a loss of what to say for a minute.
Nervously tucking a stray piece of hair behind her ear Cecily finally said, "Katherine believe me this is not what you think it is, I can explain," she insisted.
Cecily started to walk over to talk to Katherine, "Just give me a few minutes to clear my mind before you explain please," said Katherine, "Then meet me at our place."
Cecily sighed as she sadly watched Kathleen walk away.
She felt a hand on her shoulder and she turned around to see Keith looking at her.
"I'm sorry Cecily, I dinna mean for this ta happen or Katherine to see us," he said staring at her pleadingly hoping that she would forgive him.
"I know that you didn't mean it Keith," Cecily said still avoiding his gaze, "I just hope she didn't guess your precious secret," she choked out tears glistening in the corner as she turned away.
"Cecily please, ya know that I care fer you far more then about me secret identity," Keith pleaded.
"Really Keith?" said Cecily staring at him with a questioning look.
"Now Katherine must think...." she trailed off shaking her head in frustration.
"Katherine....." began Keith then a thought struck him and his eyes went wide in wonder.
"What is it Keith? what does Katherine have to do with anything?" asked Cecily.
"You dinna understand the way that Katherine looked when she came in made her look exactly like the noblewoman who was in the carriage," he said as he mentally compared them.
Despite the different clothing their features and even their hair was almost identical.
"You mean that you think that Katherine is that nobleman's hidden heir? his daughter?" Cecily asked in amazement her mind working a mile a minute putting all the fact and theories that she had about Katherine and adding them to this new revelation from Keith.
"Well I dinna get that far in the figuring yet but now that ya mention it yes that is exactly what I think," Keith admitted.
"But now what are we gonna do about it?" he mused.
"We are not going to do anything at the moment," said Cecily, "You need to change and dispose of your booty," she said not being able to keep a ouch of distaste out her voice as she said it.
"And I am going to talk to Katherine, I think we both have some explaining to do," Cecily said.
"But what do I say?" asked Keith.
"Nothing to anyone,"Cecily said, "If I can keep your secret all of these years then it will not hurt you to keep Katherine's."
"Fine I will na say anthin," mumbled Keith still uncomfortable with the idea.
"Yes you do like to gossip like an old woman sometimes," said Cecily with the hint of a smile.
"Cecily are you still upset with me?" asked Keith.
"Yes, honestly I am Keith," Cecily said with a sigh as she turned to leave.
"Will it help if I say that I am sorry again?" asked Keith, "I don't want you to stay mad at me."
"Oh Keith no need to act like a little kid just give me a little time,"she said turning and giving him half a smile as she walked out of the barn.
Cecily just wanted time to sort out her confused feelings.
Keith sighed and set to work putting thing away and changing, this night had not ended at all like he had hoped.
Cecily meanwhile was mentally preparing herself to talk to Katherine, knowing that this was going to be a very interesting and most likely emotional talk.
