I piped up in a quiet whisper, my hysteria breaking through my words.
"No... I.. I saw.." was all I could manage to get out before the sobs of pain and panic overtook my ability to speak.
"What did you see?" I couldn't answer. Couldn't bring myself to say his name aloud, as if that alone would make him materialise in front of me.
I lay there on the floor, shaking and without my pride. My somber prediction had been right. I finally reached my breaking point. And it hurt, did it ever pain me so! The pent-up sadness, fear, hysteria and paranoia of the last few weeks was all coming to light now. I'd hit rock bottom, the only consolation was I had nowhere to go but up from here. If I ever could find the way out. I felt strong arms grab me, another pair of hands gently pulling me free of the mess of cases and curtains. Yet another pushing my tangled mess of hair off my face, drying my constant hysterical tears that wouldn't cease. I didn't notice who it was, but I held onto him for dear life. When my sobs had subsided some, my hysteria quelled, I glanced up to see who it was.
"Oh. Hi George." I squeaked out in surprise.
In response, he patted my back and smiled.
"It'll be okay. Are you calmed some now? Need anything? Tea, a blanket perhaps?"
Of course. Always the father figure, tending to everyone else's needs before his own. It felt good, almost as if I had my own father back again. The days when he banished all the monsters I'd see at night with his reassuring hugs, the stories he'd tell me. After all this time, I'd nearly forgotten what it's like to have a father, and a family.
Ryan gestured over for us to come and follow him. Emmet stood beside him, and gave me a sympathetic look. We followed the pair of them out to centre stage where Sharon, Damian, Neil and Keith stood.
"We had security do a sweep of the premises, and neither hide nor hair of him was found."
"Are- Are you sure, Sharon? I saw him, with me own two eyes, sure as anything! He was right there!" I pointed to where his terrifying form had appeared to me. "But I was so sure.. I thought.."
"As far as anyone can tell, he was never here tonight." she replied, a touch of concern in her voice.
I sank to my knees, absorbing the information. Never here.. Am I going crazy? Was he really never here? What's happening to me? I thought, my mind racing a million miles an hour.
