He is trying to do the right thing but he should have told Paige that the child wasn't his, not that she let him get a word in edgewise. Can't wait for the next update.

*Note Ryan didn't tell Paige that the baby wasn't his because he wanted a clean break and he knew that that was the only way he could truly try and let her go. Thanks again for reading guys-glad you all are enjoying it, though some of you dislike Ryan atm ;-)

Paige slid to the floor in a heaping mess, the tears flowing freely now; her breath coming in gasps How could he? She sobbed. She’d trusted him, believed him when he’d said that Colleen was just a friend. How stupid was I? She thought to herself. She sat on her bedroom floor and cried until she physically couldn’t cry anymore, then exhausted and spent she dragged herself up onto the bed hoping rest would find her. A few hours later she awoke to pounding on her door; stumbling she made her way to the living room and threw open the door “You look like heck” Lorena commented as she breezed through the door “Thanks” she said half heartedly “What’s wrong?” she asked suddenly concerned “Ryan’s getting married” Lorena’s face lit up “That’s great, I didn’t know you two had talked about it when is the-“ “He’s marrying Colleen” Paige cut her off “WHAT? Why would he be marrying-“ “Colleen’s pregnant that’s why” she said as she moved to sit on the couch, her legs suddenly weak after having spoken it out loud “OMG Paige honey I’m so sorry” she said hugging her friend “Thanks” she mumbled as she started to cry again. “I’m gonna talk to Paul and find out what the heck is going on” “NO!” Paige practically shouted “I mean what would be the point Lor? It’s obvious that Ryan wasn’t happy and decided to find happiness elsewhere. I really don’t care to know all of the details; can we just let it be? Ryan and Colleen are getting married and having a child; nothing’s gonna change that.” “So where does that leave you?” her friend asked Sighing she thought for a minute “For the moment it leaves me in need of chocolate and alcohol.” She attempted to laugh but her laughter dissolved into tears as she leaned on Lorena and let the hurt consume her. Weeks passed and Paige tried to get back to normal. Her business had taken off so much so that she’d spent every waking moment at the bakery, though part of her believed that it was because she was trying to drive the thought of Ryan from her memory. Everywhere she turned she saw something that reminded her of him; she thought of him as she ran in the mornings for obvious reasons. However she also thought of him whenever she made buttercream remembering the first time he’d kissed her, she couldn’t listen to Bon Jovi or the Righteous Brothers without the image of him holding her or singing to her coming to mind. Lorena, god love her, had done everything humanly possible to help her forget Ryan. They’d gone to countless movies, went shopping, and Lorena had set her up with every available man she knew; if he had a pulse he was knocking on Paige’s door. She’d even gone so far as to stop talking about Paul, though secretly she wondered if something else had happened because her eyes were sad at the mere mention of him. Today was another one of those long days and she was on her way home when her phone rang. She cringed and made a mental note to change the ring tone to something not so Bon Jovi. “Hello?” she said as she found her phone, it was a number she didn’t recognize but an international number she noted “Helloooo???” she questioned again; she was just about to give the caller a piece of her mind when the line went dead in her ear.

“Are you ready?” Father Quinn asked as he peaked his head in the door “One minute Father” Ryan said as he replaced the receiver; he didn’t know what possessed him to call her on today of all days. He just knew he needed to hear her voice; maybe it was so he could hear for himself that she was ok. He’d heard from Paul that she was doing alright; throwing herself into her work, which was just like Paige. Whenever she was upset she turned to work, which usually helped ease whatever was weighing on her mind. Of course Paul also mentioned that Lorena had been setting her up with every available man in town, which tore Ryan in two. However he had no right to be upset-he’d brought this on himself and it was her right now to date whom ever she wanted. But that didn’t make it any less painful; with one last look at the phone Ryan left to take his place at the altar. The ceremony was small with just friends and family because both Colleen and Ryan had agreed that with everything that was going on it was for the best. They’d decided, or rather Emmett had decided that the cermony should take place as soon as possible because even though they’d put the cart before the horse as he put it; he didn’t want his grandbaby born to an unmarried couple. So Colleen and her mom had worked tirelessly to put together a wedding in a matter of a month. Time and time again Colleen asked Ryan if this is what he really wanted, more so he thought because she thought he might back out, leaving her to explain things to her family. He couldn’t help but smile as he watched her walk down the aisle; though he wasn’t in love with her, Colleen never looked so beautiful; Colin was a moron to leave her. When she’d reached him and her father gave her away, he took her hand and turned towards the priest to commence with the ceremony. When it came time for the vows, Colleen looked at him questioningly one last time; especially when the priest asked if there was anyone present that could show just cause why the two of them should not be married. Ryan merely smiled at her and repeated his vows, relieving her fears. “I now present to you Mr. and Mrs. Ryan and Colleen Kelly” Fr. Quinn said as the ceremony ended. The church erupted in thunderous applause as Ryan and Colleen made their way back down the aisle and out of the church. By the time they’d reached the limo that would take them to the reception, Colleen was crying “Come on Colleen don’t cry” “I can’t help it” she said taking the tissue that he offered “You love her Ryan” Ryan hung his head because there was no denying her statement “This was my decision” “I know, but I didn’t have to go along with it” “No, but you did for the sake of this one” he said pointing to her slightly rounded stomach “Yeah but maybe I was wrong, maybe if I talked to-“ Ryan cut her off “What’s done is done Colleen; now can we please get on with the reception?” he wanted this day to be over as quickly as possible People came through giving them well wishes and congratulations, but Ryan was never so happy to see his boys “Hey Neil, thanks for coming” he said giving him a handshake “Wouldn’t have missed it for the world” he replied, not looking at Ryan but at Colleen. “You look stunning” Colleen blushed slightly, why she had no idea “Thank you Neil” she said kissing his cheek “You’re a lucky man” Neil said turning back to Ryan. Why did Neil look so sad? After all he was the one who had just lost the love of his life. His thoughts were interupted by more well wishers; he was glad that they’d decided on a small ceremony because he wasn’t sure how much more congratulations he could take. Ryan was grateful an hour and a half later when Colleen had told him that she’d told her parents that she wasn’t feeling very well and wanted to leave early. “I figured you wanted to get out of there” she said as they walked to the car “So you’re feeling ok then?” he asked “I’m fine, if you don’t count the guilt I’m feeling” “Just think about the baby” Ryan replied. That’s what he had to do everytime he felt guilty, or was missing Paige which for him was every waking moment since he’d left her. Most of the time it worked; and other days it was like a black cloud following him around. Today was one of those black cloud days.

“So how are you doing?” Lorena asked Paige as they shopped one Saturday afternoon “I’m doin ok” she sighed “Are you really?” “Well I guess as best as can be expected, not everyday your boyfriend marries another woman who’s carrying his child” Her friend winced “I know honey and I’m sorry we had to stop in the baby section, but there’s an office baby shower on Monday and I of course got busy and forgot until the last minute” “Oh really? With what? Or shall I say with WHOM” she attempted to waggle her eyebrows ala Paul style “Oh Paul has nothing to do with it” she sighed rather sadly “Well that didn’t sound too good” “Oh we’ve just been fighting a bit lately” “Anything you want to talk about?” Paige asked as she examined a rack of baby books “Not really, let’s get back to you and how you’re doing” Lorena really didn’t want to make things worse for Paige by telling her the whole reason Paul and her were fighting was because Lorena had refused to come out for the baby shower that was being thrown for Colleen and Ryan. He’d argued that Ryan was still his friend and it was his duty to be there for him, to which she countered that Ryan wasn’t worth the gum on the bottom of her shoe. “Like I said I’m doing ok” and honestly she was. Sure there were times when she wanted to throw things, like the time she came across the picture that Lorena had taken of her and Ryan the night of her first concert. She’d taken one look at it, and when the tears started to fall from the bad memories, she’d heaved it across the room shattering the glass. However time had done her good and her heart was starting to heal. “Well you know if you need anything I’m here for you” Lorena squeezed her hand “I know, and I appreciate it” she smiled back “Well I’m ready if you are” “Yeah, go ahead I’ll be right there” When Lorena left, Paige hesitated a second before she snatched one of the books off of the shelf and headed to the register. Though Colleen wasn’t due for sometime; Ryan had spent the better part of the last 3 months trying to get the house ready for the baby’s arrival. Needless to say when he’d fixed up the house, he didn’t have a baby in mind. He and Colleen had decided it would be easier for her to move in with him since his house was a lot larger than her apartment. Just recently they had decided to turn his study into the nursery since it was close to the bedroom that Colleen had been using. He was packing up the last of his desk when he saw it; it was the picture that Lorena had snapped of him and Paige the night of her first concert. Lorena had had it framed and given them each a copy; he ran his finger over her face remembering her smile, her laugh, the way she felt in his arms. “Can this box go?” Neil asked entering the room Shoving the memories aside and the picture into the box he said “Yeah that can go, thanks” With a nod Neil snatched up the box and left. Neil was such a good friend; ever since he’d found out about Colleen he’d really stepped up and helped out. He’d check in on Colleen from time to time when he knew that Ryan would be late getting home, ran errands, helped Ryan get through the baby shower without killing himself and today he was helping ready the nursery for the baby. ‘He’s gonna make some lady very happy one day’ he thought to himself. “Ryan?” Colleen interuppted his thoughts “Yeah?” “This came in the mail today, and it was addressed to Baby Kelly so I opened it” she said a bit nervously “Ok, I take it it’s another baby gift?” he asked questioningly She nodded “It’s from Paige” she said handing him the package Stunned, he willed his hand to take it; inside was a baby book. It was a story book about a monkey and he laughed recalling the comment he'd made about Paul and the zoo “There’s a note with it” Colleen said Finding the folded piece of paper he recognized Paige’s bold handwriting: “In case the baby grows tired of Yeats”
