George was sitting in his hotel room. He wasn’t watching tv, he wasn’t listening to music, he was just sitting.
Three days. It had been 3 days and Sarah still hadn’t been found. Ryan was gettingout of the hosptal today, and Sharon and Anna had gone to pick him up. George decided to call Carrie. Talking to her always seemed to cheer him up.
“Hey George”, she answered. “Any news yet?”
“No Carrie honey”, George replied sadly. “Not yet”
“I’m coming George”, Carrie said.
“What do you mean your coming?”
“I booked a flight and it leaves in an hour. I’m coming to the US”, Carrie explained.
“Carrie hon”, George’s voice got soft. “You don’t have to come, being here will only cause you more stress”
“George it’s been 3 days. It’s causing me too much stress NOT being there”
George was relieved that Carrie was coming. He needed her there for support.
“Okay”, he said. “What time does your flight land?”
“2:30”, she answered.
After a few more minutes of talking, they got off the phone. Just as George was hanging up, someone knocked on his door. When he answered it, Keith was standing there.
“Ryan’s back”, he said with a huge smile on his face. “Come on, we’re all in his room”
“Ryan!”, George greeted him when they got there.
“Hey George”, Ryan said from the bed.
“We wanted to have a party for ya Ryan”, Damian said. “But with Sarah being missing and everything…”
George closed his eyes, the worry and pain returning.
“Well we just decided to have a joined party when we find her”, Paul said, hoping to lighten the mood.
“Carrie’s coming”, George anounced. “Her flight gets here at 2 :30”
“She’s coming here?”, Keith asked.
“Where else would she go?”, Paul said to him. “Austrailia?”
“Maybe she likes it there Paul”, Keith answered. “Have you ever thought of that?”
“Carrie’s never even been to Austrailia”, Paul said.
“How do you know? George has Carrie ever been to Austrailia?”, Keith asked.
“I don’t think so”, George replied, smiling a little.
Paul gave Keith a look that said, “Ha! So there”
Keith rolled his eyes.
“So Ryan”, Paul said. “You just got out of the hospital. What are you going to do next?”
“Ummm…. I’m going to finish the tour?”, Ryan asked.
“No! I saw this on tv, it’s what Americans do after they win their football. You’re supposed to look happy, and say ‘I’m going to Disney World’”
Ryan thought for a moment and then smiled. “I’m going to kiss my girlfriend”, he replied as Anna bent down to kiss him.
Paul looked away pointedly while Damian laughed.
Sarah had been with Aunt Elle for a long time. She missed Daddy, and Paul, and Damian and everyone else.
“When can I go back to Daddy?”, she asked.
“Honey, you live with me now”, Aunt Elle replied. She was washing some dishes.
“But Daddy will be worried if I don’t come back. And he has to leave for the next show soon”
“No he won’t”, Aunt Elle said. “He knows your with me”
“Can I call him?”, Sarah asked. “I miss him”
“Aww, I’m sure you do sweetie”, Aunt Elle said. “But I don’t know his number. Now come on, let’s go feed the cats”
Back at the hotel, it was almost time for George to go get Carrie and Keith and Katie were going with him.
“Why do they get to go?”, Damian asked. “Can I come?”
“Damian, let the love birds have some alone time”, Paul said.
“They won’t be alone, George will be with them”, Damian argued.
George is going as their escort”, Paul explained. “He’s like a chaperone”
“I can help him”, Damian said.
“No you can’t”, Paul said.
“Why not?”, Damian asked.
“Because you’re younger then them”
“So?”
Keith, Katie and George all laughed as they left with Paul and Damian still arguing.
When they got to the airport, they all sat in blue plastic chairs, waiting for Carrie’s flight to land. After a few minutes, George decided to give them some alone time.
“I’m going to walk around a wee bit”, he said. “Will you two be ok here?”
“Yea”
“We’ll be fine”, they said.
After George left, Keith and Katie started talking about Sarah.
“Where do you think she could be?”, Katie asked.
“I really don’t have a clue”, Keith answered. “I thought we would have found her by now”
“Me too”, Katie said. “Poor George, he must be a wreck”
“He is a wreck. Haven’t you seen him these last few days?”
“Yea, but he’s trying not to show it. If that’s him NOT showing it, just imagiane what he’s really going through”
Keith looked at her. “You know”, he said. “You amaze me”
Katie laughed. “How?”, she asked.
“Your just so… compasionate. And sensitive and understanding”
“Well thank you”, Katie said, smiling. “So are you”
Keith thought for a second. “Can I talk to you about something?”, he asked.
“Keith, you know you can talk to me about anything”, Katie replied to Keith’s question.
“Okay, well you know how I was honest with you that one morning?”, Keith asked.
“Yea”, Katie said slowly.
“Well, it’s time for me to be honest again”, Keith said. He paused for a second, thinking about how to word what he wanted to say. “I know that this problably isn’t the best time, with Ryan just out of the hospital and Sarah being lost and everything. And this definatley isn’t the best place”, Keith laughed a little. “But I need to tell you that my feelings have changed. No, scratch that. Yhey haven’t changed, they’ve grown. I know what I’m feeling, and I know where I want this… us… to go”
Katie’s eyes filled with tears.
“I like you Katie. A lot. So I have to aske you, here in an airport, with Sarah being lost…. Katie, will you be my girl? Katie- girl, will you do me the honor of being my girlfriend?”
“Oh yes Keith”, Katie said with tears in her eyes. “I would love to be your girl”
“Really?”, Keith asked.
Katie laughed. “Of course”, she said as she leaned forward to kiss him.
Keith leaned forward and kissed her softly on the lips.
“Thank you”, he said.
“For what?”, Katie asked.
“For just being you”, Keith said.
Just then, George came back and noticed their faces, but he just smirked to himself and didn’t say anything.
“Hey you two”, he greeted them casually.
“Hey”, Katie said, trying to hide a smile.
“Hey George”, Keith said. “When is Carrie’s flight landing?”
“In about 10 minutes”, he said looking at the flight chart. “Wait a second… it’s early!”, he said happily. “It’s landing now!”
When the flight landed and the passengers disembarked, George looked for Carrie. When he saw her, he ran to her and scooped her up in his arms.
“I missed you so much”, he said, tearing up.
“I missed you too George”, Carrie said, also crying.
“Hey Carrie”, Keith said, coming up and giving her a hug.
“Hi Keith. How are you?”
Keith laughed. “Well at the moment, I’m the happiest man alive”, he said. He wrapped his arm around Katie’s waist. “Carrie, I’d like you to meet my girlfriend. This is Katie”, he said proudly.
“Girlfriend?!”, George said, surprised. “When did this happen?”
“We had a little chat while you were walking around George”, Keith answered.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you Katie”, Carrie said. “How did you meet Keith?”
“I’m their floutist”, Katie explained.
“I told you Carrie, Kim got sick”, George reminded her.
“Oh!”, Carrie said, finally understanding.
“Yep!”, Keith said, smiling. “And now she’s my girlfriend”
“So what are we going to do about Srah”, Carrie asked as they headed back to the hotel.
“We have to wait for Officer Tom to contact us”, George told her.
Carrie looked at him in disbelief. “You don’t expect me to sit around a hotel room, doing nothing, just waiting for the phone to ring do you?”, she asked.
“Of course not”, George said, trying to forget that that’s exactly what he had been doing that morning.
“Then WHAT are we going to do to get her back?”, Carrie asked, going into protective mother mode.
“Well… umm…”, George tried to come up with an answer to satisfy his wife. “You can call Tom tomorrow”, he suggested
“Good”, Carrie said. “Now how is Ryan doing?”
“He’s out of the hospital”, Keith said. “Just got out today”
Just then George’s cell phone rang. It was Officer Tom.
“Hello George, how are you?”, Tom said.
“Do you have any news?”, George asked.
“We have a few leads”, Tom replied. “Why don’t you come down to the station and I’ll tell you about it?”
“Okay”, George agreed. “I’ll have my wife with me. She just flew in”
“Sounds good. I’ll see you in a few”
“What?”, Carrie asked as soon as George hung up.
“Tom says he has a few leads. Keith, will you and Katie get back to the hotel okay?”
“Yep. We’ll be fine”, Keith replied. “Good luck George, I’ll be praying”
“Thanks Keith”, George said. “I’ll see you later”
“Bye”, Keith and Katie said as they walked off.
George took Carrie’s hand as they got in a cab and went to the station. George looked at his wife. She looked tired and stressed out, as if she hadn’t been sleeping much.
“How are you doing?”, he asked, stroking her face with the back of his hand.
“I’m fine”, she answered, looking out the window.
“No Carrie, I mean how are you REALLY doing?”
“I’m so scared George”, Carrie whispered as she started to cry. “I can’t eat, I can’t sleep, I just want to know where she is”
George held her close as he tried to soothe her. “We’ll find her Carrie. I promise you”, he sai softly.
“But what if she’s hurt? What has she been doing for food? She must be so scared”
George had been trying, for the past 3 days, not to think of these things. He sighed.
“We’ll just have to wait and see what Tom says”, he told her.
When they got there, Tom met them at the door.
“Hello George”, he greeted them. “How’s it going?”
“Hello Tom”, George said. “This is my wife, Carrie”
“Nice to meet you Carrie”, Tom said. “Well I’m sure that you two are anxious to hear my news”, he said as they entered his office.
“Is it good news?”, Carrie asked. “We have some leads”, Tom answered. “We talked to a man with a little dog and said that he recognized the picture of Sarah. Appearantly she had wanted to meet his dog, Molly”
“Yes”, George said excitedly. “That’s why she ran off. She wanted to pet a puppy”
“Did he see where she went?”, Carrie asked.
“No”, Tom replied sitting down behind his desk. “He didn’t notice. But we also talked to a woman that saw Sarah walking off with an old lady”
Carrie went pale.
“She was kidnapped?!”, George exclaimed.
“Not necessarily”, Tom explained. “The woman might have took her home to take care of her. She might be helping Sarah look for you”
“Then why didn’t she bring her here?”, George asked.
“I don’t know”, Tom replied. “I’m not saying that’s what happened, but we can’t rule anyhting out. We’re trying to get more information”
“How long until you find more out?”, Carrie asked him.
“Not sure. It might be a few hours, or days. We don’t know”
“A few days?”, Carrie asked faintly.
George took Carrie’s hand. “It’s already been three days. You should have found her by now”
“I’m sorry George”, Tom replied. “We’re doing the best we can”
George calmed down a bit. “I know Tom”, he said. “I just miss her so much. Her smile, with those cute little dimples, her giggle when I tickle her”, George couldn’t go on. “Just please find her”, he whispered.
“I promise we’ll do everything in out power”, Tom said, looking sympethetic.
“Thank you”, George said as he and Carrie stood up. “Call me any time of the day or night”
“You know I will”, Tom replied.
When George and Carrie got back to the hotel, they went straight to Ryan’s room. As George opened the door, something hit him in the face.
