That's great that Lyla learned how to get around the bus! Loved how into the book Damon got and that Lyla lent the second book to him! And that truck with knowing which book is which and knowing when Sharon is wearing her glasses is really cool!

I've had to deal with loss of sight before. It is possible to smell plastic glasses frames, and I know most of my books by the feel of the cover. I always end up with bits of myself in the characters, even when they are based off of my sister or brother. Lyla was based off of me more than anything else, but that was not my original plan.

When she was felling better, Keith took her shopping. She protested that she couldn't even see what he was picking out for her, but he insisted. He brought each peice to her to feel, and the fabrics she liked were then found in colors he said looked great with her green eyes. Finally he handed her a stack of things and sent her into a changing room. She even began giggling when he Ooo'd and Aaahh'd over clothes she couldn't see. He picked his favorite outfit, which he SAID was a green top and a tan skirt, and bought it for her. Then he sent her and her new clothes to Sharon, saying, "Get this girl all prettied up and I'll be back for her in half an hour."
When he returned, he whispered, "Ye are absolutly gorgeous!" Lyla smiled and said, "I hope so. I just wish I could see. I miss sight. All I want right now is to see your face in all it's goofy glory." Keith made a choking sound. "Me? Goofy?" But the comment barely got a faint smile that faded quickly. "Hey, baby, ye look great, and I'm all ready to take ye dancing and to dinner." That got a smile. "Thanks Keith. Yer great." He laughed. "Yer accents getting thicker, the Irish one, not yer Kansas princess one." Lyla laughed. "I don't mind. I sometimes wish I lived in Ireland. It's so pretty and I would be near you." She turned to look where she thought his face was. He bent his head gently and kissed her cheek. A slow smile spread over her face, and lighting up Keith's world. Then he led her to his car. He held the door for her before getting behind the wheel. "I'm still curious how in the world ye Americans drive on the wrong side of the road." He shook his head. Lyla lightly punched him. "It's ye Irishmen that are on the wrong side of the road! We learn to drive our way, you learn yer way. You just have to do it frequently and ye get the hang of it." He smiled again at her accent, before asking what she wanted for dinner. They decided on Italian and he drove to the nearest place with good recommendations. They were seated and the waiter got their drink orders before dissappearing to the kitchen. Keith read the menu out loud, ignoring the grumpy looks he was getting from the other tables. She decide on chicken alfredo, and Keith ordered two bowls with some garlic bread. While they waited, they talked. He asked her about her family, but she quickly changed the subject, so they talked about Ireland. By the end of dinner Keith had convinced Lyla to come with him to Ireland after the tour. They were headed for the door when Lyla was stopped by a twenty something barbie doll. "I've been watching you and you don't seem to care one bit that your on a date with THE Keith Harkin! You could at least LOOK at him once in a while!" She turned to Keith, "When your tired of being ignored, call me." Lyla was crying and Keith was livid. "For yer INFORMATION, this is my GIRLFRIEND! Ye will NOT talk to her like that!" He put his arm around Lyla's shoulder and led her out of the restaraunt, murmering in her ear. "It's okay, she was a jerk. Don't let her ruin yer evening. Please, let's just go dance." He helped her into his car and they drove to a nice place with lots of lights. Soft music was playing, and Keith led her to the middle of the floor, his arms around her waist. She put her arms around his neck and lay her head on his shoulder. They swayed gently as Keith softly sang to the music, Sway with Me. Lyla had heard the song before, by Michael Buble, but Keith voice seem ten times more wonderful.

LOVE THIS UPDATE! So happy that Keith took Lyla shopping and on a real Romantic Date! The best part was Keith telling off that obnoxious fan and Keith saying for all to hear that Lyla is his girlfriend! Well done Donna!

Here ye go! I know it is short, but time to SLEEP!
It was late when they got back, and they paused just outside the bus. Lyla leaned against the bus while Keith stroked her hair, tucking a strand behind her ear. "I had a lot of fun tonight Lyla." She nodded and pulled him into a hug. After a moment he leaned back and kissed her. A proper kiss, on the lips, with no one to see or object. Lyla felt as if a meteor could hit and she wouldn't have noticed. After a long moment, he pulled back, and they climbed into the bus. "How was yer night?" Neil was lying on the couch. "It was lovely, what are ye doing here?" Lyla queried. He smirked. "Sharon told me to report on when ye got back so's she could plan on how tired ye was gonna be." With that he dashed out the door. Lyla giggled, then slapped her hand over her mouth, remembering the rest of the lads were only a few feet away. As the two of them crawled into bed, she heard snickering. "Go to sleep PAUL." She whispered. She heard a gasp at being recognized, and the rest of the guys started chuckling. Then they all went to sleep, they had a concert tomorrow.
I had this written out before I began posting, and sadly, it is getting close to the end.

Typical Sharon to send somebody else to make sure Keith and Lyla got back in one piece! Loved the proper Kiss Keith gave Lyla! The best part was Lyla recognizing Paul from his snickering!

I hope you enjoy the ending of Stick Close to Me. It's been a lot of fun to write, and see your comments. When Lyla woke up the next morning she jumped. Keith rolled over. "What is it love?" "The light's too bright, could you turn it off?" She was stunned when he jumped out of bed, whooping. "What's the deal?" Damian grumbled. "Lyla just told me the light's too bright! Her sight's coming back!" Everyone hollered until Sharon banged on the door. "What's so exciting it can't wait til people are awake?" Keith ran to the door and explained, forgetting he was just in his shorts. Sharon smiled. "That's great, but would you please put on clothes?" He glanced down and shrugged, flexing his arms. Sharon gave him a shove back and left, chuckling. Lyla could see faint outlines on the black she had seen before. She was thrilled. Keith picked her up and twirled her around until her head hurt. He handed her some clothes and could barely contain his excitement while she dressed. When she emerged he took her hand and the lads took her out to celebrate. They got her ice cream and she avoided getting any on herself, though Keith was grinning so much and waching her he tried to put his spoon in his nose, ending up with chocolate all over his face. Lyla crowed when she found his face and kiss the drops of chocolate off his face. Keith could not wipe the grin off his face. Two months later, Keith and Lyla were on the plane to Ireland. Her sight had completly returned, though she saw more green and blue, while reds were subdued. Keith could feel the ring in his pocket, heavy with anticipation. When they landed, he pulled Lyla aside and got down on one knee. "Lyla Amanda Powers, ye are the most amazing person I have ever met, and I want to spend the rest of me life with ye. Would ye do me the honor of becoming me wife?" Lyla looked into his eyes, the color of the ocean, and whispered, "Yes. Of course I'll marry ye." Keith swooped her up and spun in a circle. Then he planted a big kiss on her lips, grinning like a madman.

This story is continued in Oopsies. A Colm story. When I began Oopsies I had no intention of going beyond the one shot, but you all, and the characters, have inspired me. Natalie was just a random girl in my mind, but then suddenly she announces she is Lyla's little sister. I hadn't planned that, she just spoke and there she was. I am constantly amazed by the way my characters take over the story and begin to write their own story. So if you want to know more of Lyla, in the eyes of her sister, please read Oopsies.
