Ryan was awakened by Cori leaning across the bed to silence her phone. He wrapped a heavy arm around her waist and smiled as she laughed. She turned to face him and snuggled happily into his embrace.
“Come on sleepyhead, time to get up.”
“But I don’t want to, I just wanna stay here with you.”
Cori ran a playful hand through his hair. “As wonderful as that sounds, you do have to get up. I’m not about to incur the wrath of several thousand Thunderheads because you slept through a show.”
Ryan chuckled at the image and reluctantly released Cori, sitting up and stretching as she slid off of the bed. Following her he wrapped his arms around her waist from behind as she stared into her closet. She covered his hands with her own and enjoyed the moment before pulling away.
“You do have a show tonight. Go and get ready, I’ll see you at the venue.”
With a sigh Ryan nodded and started to turn away. At the last moment he turned back and pulled Cori into his arms, kissing her quickly before rushing out of the door. The dancer laughed and sat down before her legs gave out on her, wondering if the room was spinning because of the kiss or because she hadn’t eaten since breakfast yesterday.
An hour later, freshly shaved and showered, Ryan walked into the venue’s makeshift cafeteria and joined his band mates at one of the tables. “There you are!” exclaimed Paul. “I thought you were going for a run this morning and when you didn’t come back I thought maybe some crazy fan had you tied up in her trunk.”
Everyone laughed and Ryan shook his head. “I was going to go for a run but…well…I went to talk to Cori instead.” The table fell silent as everyone waited to hear what had happened.
“And?” Neil prompted, raising a pierced eyebrow.
“And we’re better.”
“From that smile, mate, I’d say you were more than better,” said George with a teasing grin.
“It’s complicated. We have a lot to work through and right now her career has to come first.”
“So?” Damian asked. “Are you together or not?”
“A bit of both. But I told her I’d wait as long as it takes.”
“Ugh, I think I’m going to be sick,” Keith teased earning him a scowl from Ryan.
“Good for you,” said Paul while clapping him on the shoulder.
“Yeah, you deserve to be happy,” commented Damian before inhaling what was left on his plate.
“Thanks guys,” said Ryan before finally touching what was on his plate. He hadn’t eaten all day and nearly put Keith to shame with his meal.
As they were finishing up Cori and Haley-Jo came walking in, deep in discussion about something. Both girls waved in their direction and Cori gave Ryan a shy smile which earned him a good bit of ribbing from the others.
“Are you two finally an item?” asked Haley-Jo while assembling a plate.
“Yes and no. I need some time to work on my career and to work some issues out.”
“Oh?”
“Yeah, but he said he would wait for me. Let’s see how long he’s willing to wait.”
Haley-Jo put a hand on Cori’s shoulder. “I’ve seen the way he looks at you, I’m pretty sure he’d wait until the world ends for you”.
Cori couldn’t help the blush that tinged her cheeks at the dancer’s words.“You really think so?”
“I know so.”

Onyx! Love how a Teenager like Haley-Jo knows what she's talking about when it comes to Ryan and Cori! And I have a wee suggestion for you. How about putting Damo and Haley-Jo together!

Just a short update tonight but the next one will be much longer. ________________________________________________________________________________
The rest of the tour went by without incident. Cori practically lived on her cell phone and laptop, furiously attempting to work on her showcase from across the country. The only difference from before was Ryan was now free to show his affection. He often would sit behind Cori and rub her shoulders as she sat hunched over her computer or would simply hold her hand when they sat together at lunch.
His happiness was infectious and Cori was often seen with a smile on her face which would widen when Ryan stepped into her field of vision. She still had nightmares filled with images of her past but they were becoming less frequent as the tour progressed.
Cori still made time for everyone, making sure everyone’s costumes and dance steps were up to standard and also helping play pranks on unassuming crew members whenever she got the chance.
Currently she was sitting at the keyboard on the stage with Neil, helping him work through the chords of a new song he was working on. “What about something like this?” she suggested before playing a set of chords that were so fast that it took Neil a few tries before he could mimic them on his guitar.
“Hmmm…close but not quite,” said Neil, his brow furrowed in concentration. “Wait, I think I’ve got it.” He played a set of chords similar to Cori’s but expanded the range slightly.
“That sounds great!” exclaimed Cori as she attempted to memorize what Neil had just played.
Before long the two were rocking out, playing off of each other and trying to outdo the other on each turn. The sudden drumbeat behind them made them turn around and Declan grinned and proceeded to lay down a steady beat.
The music got everyone’s attention and Ruth’s violin was added to the mix. A few minutes later Keith’s electric guitar pierced the air followed by Brendan’s whistle. Soon the entire band was rocking out and both George and Ryan had grabbed their guitars and joined in. Paul and Damian entertained them with their absolutely horrid dancing in the aisles and Sharon walked in to see what was going on. She smiled to herself when she saw everyone either playing or dancing, this is what Celtic Thunder was all about.
Practically on cue, the musicians brought the music to a furious climax and ended with so many riffs and notes that the hall seemed to echo for hours. Sharon, Damian, Paul, and the dancers broke into a furious applause as the musicians took a bow. The instruments were carefully replaced as everyone began to get ready for the show.
Cori was about to slip backstage when she saw Sharon and a few stagehands gathered around one of the camera operators who was holding a small camcorder. “That’s brilliant! That is going up on the website.” Apparently their private jam session was about to go viral. She laughed and headed towards the costume shop, smiling at her secret.

As promised a much longer update! _________________________________________________________________________________
All too soon the summer leg of the tour came to an end. The lads were all emotional as they took their final bows, telling the audience that they would see them next time. Instead of rushing for the busses the guys took their time at the Meet and Greet then headed back to the hotel. Sharon had arranged a wrap party for those involved with the tour and everyone was ready to let their hair down and relax.
Cori was sharing a room with Julianne and laughed as the blonde held up practically every dress before tossing it away. Finally she looked towards Cori and pouted.
“What’s the matter?”
“I can’t find anything to wear!” she exclaimed while throwing up her hands in frustration.
Cori chuckled and stood to sift through the pile of clothes heaped on the bed. “Nothing blue I’m assuming?” she asked. Since Julie had to wear the same blue dress every night on stage she had a feeling that she didn’t want anything to do with that color.
“Please no!”
“Okay, how about this?” she asked while pulling a slinky wine colored dress from the pile.
“Ohhh, I like that one.”
“Here, go put it on and I’ll help you with your hair.”
Soon Julie was the model of the seductress. Cori had fashioned her hair in curls that were swept back from her face. Paired with a deep red lipstick she looked like a movie star from the forties.
“What are you wearing, Cori?” Julie asked while fastening on her earrings.
“Something…” Cori said vaguely while slipping into the bathroom to get changed. Soon she emerged and Julie’s eyes widened as she stepped into the light.
Cori’s dress was hot pink and cut off at her knees. It only had one strap and clung to her every curve like it was painted on. Sky high pink stilettos and sparkling earrings finished off the ensemble. Her makeup was simple and her hair was piled up on top of her head, a few wisps sneaking out here and there.
“Wow,” said Julie while taking it all in. She could barely believe that this was the same woman who talked through a mouth full of straight pins while working on costumes.
“Do you think it’s okay?”
“Okay? You’ll be beating them off with a stick tonight!”
Cori rolled her eyes and grabbed her purse. “Ready?”
The party was being held in one of the hotel’s ballrooms and both girls could hear the music before they even rounded the corner. They met up with Caroline, Haley-Jo, and the other female cast and crew members before heading into the ballroom.
Ryan and the other lads were already there when there was a slight commotion by the door. “The girls must be here,” said Paul with a wide grin.
“Is that Cori?” Damian exclaimed, his voice rising nearly an octave.
Ryan felt his jaw hit the ground as the girls entered the room. Each one looked absolutely stunning but he only had eyes for Cori. He slowly took in her outfit, his eyes drifting over each curve until they met her own.
After greeting everyone Ryan slipped an arm around Cori’s waist. “You look amazing.”
Blushing slightly at the comment Cori took a moment to take in the black suit with the royal blue shirt he was wearing. “You don’t look too bad yourself.”
Ryan kissed her cheek and led her through the crowd. “I’m going to have to keep one arm wrapped around your waist all night.”
Tossing her hair and laughing Cori stopped by the bar for a glass of wine before going to mingle.
How Sharon had managed to find such a great DJ on such short notice was nothing short of a miracle and it didn’t take long for everyone to hit the dance floor. As usual Cori was first, dragging a protesting Damian behind her. The poor boy couldn’t dance to save his life but he had so much fun that no one really cared.
“Keeeeeeeith!” Cori squealed as the blonde surfer scooped her up and spun her around the dance floor. Giggling she fell into his arms and let herself be swept away by the music. Glancing over his shoulder she flashed Ryan a smile before Keith dipped her so far her hair nearly brushed the floor.
“May I have this dance?” asked Paul with a bow. Cori giggled and dipped into a curtsey before taking his outstretched hand. The tenor guided her in a slow waltz around the room, making her laugh when he spun her before pulling her into his arms once more.
The song ended and Paul gently took Cori’s elbow, nodding towards the open doors leading to the terrace. The night was clear and cool but before Cori could say anything Paul was draping his coat over her shoulders. She twisted to look up at him and smiled. “Thanks.”
“No problem, couldn’t let my best mate’s girl get sick,” he watched her face as he spoke and was amused by the multitude of emotions that she went through.
Cori stood in silence at Paul’s words, not quite sure how to react. Was she Ryan’s girl? Well, he did love her and even though she couldn’t say it back she definitely had serious feelings for the blue eyed Irishman, so she guessed that made her his girl. Finally, the soft voice next to her pulled her from her musings.
“He loves you, you know.”
Cori nodded. “I know, every time he says it I want to turn around and see who he’s talking to.”
“Do you love him?”
The dancer stiffened. “I care for him. I love you all, you’re my family, but I have feelings for Ryan that I don’t have for anyone else.” She sighed and walked over to the railing, looking at the illuminated city below. “I’m not good with relationships and love is something that terrifies me. I’m so afraid of getting hurt or messing things up that I usually chase the guy off long before he is ready to tell me that he loves me.”
“Now it makes sense,” said Paul as he came to stand beside her.
“What makes sense?”
“Ryan said you two were taking it slow, very slow and I couldn’t understand why. But now I get it and maybe it’s better to get your feet wet before jumping in headfirst. I know that there are several relationships that would have ended much differently if I had taken things slowly.”
“But then you wouldn’t have met Dom.”
At the mention of his girlfriend’s name the tenor’s face lit up. “Yeah, that’s true.” He placed a hand on Cori’s shoulder as he spoke. “I just have one request for you.”
“Of course, anything.”
“Don’t hurt him. I haven’t seen him this happy in ages and after what happened last time I was beginning to wonder if he’d ever let himself fall for another girl.”
Cori frowned, Ryan hadn’t mentioned anything to her. He’d talked about a failed relationship or two but nothing that would compare to what Paul was telling her. “What happened?”
Paul regarded her for a long time before deciding to tell her. “The last girl that Ryan dated was Simone. She was sweet, gorgeous, and brought out the best in Ryan. He was absolutely mad for her and loved that she didn’t have any problems with his unusual schedule. Then things started to change. She suddenly wanted his attention all of the time and when on tour that is impossible. Her mood would go from loving one moment to vengeful in the next breath and poor Ryan got caught up in the middle of it. But he still loved her and didn’t see that she was changing. We could see it but you know what they say…”
“Love is blind,” finished Cori.
“Exactly. Finally he told us that he wanted to marry her. We begged and pleaded and finally convinced him to have a good, long talk with her about their future together before proposing. That talk didn’t end well. I don’t know exactly what happened, Ryan still won’t tell us everything, but I know she accused him of cheating on her. Now, Ryan may be the heartbreaker of the group but he was nothing but loyal to her.”
“Ryan was so shocked that he didn’t know what to do. He just sat in my room, numb, it was hours before he said one word. It took months for Ryan to recover and it broke his heart so see the woman that he loved make such a drastic change. Finally things settled down but Ryan hasn’t been the same.” Paul shook his head and let out a slow breath. “I will never forgive that woman for what she did to him. It nearly killed him, for awhile we really thought we were going to lose our brother.”
Cori stood in complete shock. She had no idea that Ryan had been though all of this but she understood why he didn’t bring it up. Once certain demons have been exorcised it is not wise to keep calling upon them. After a long time she finally found her voice.
“Paul, I would never do anything like that to Ryan or to any of you. You’ve become my family and even if we had a falling out it is not in my nature to be vindictive. I just want Ryan to be happy and if he is happy with me that is amazing but if he decides that he’ll be happier elsewhere I will have no problem letting him go. I’ll mourn the loss but I’ll respect the choices that he makes.”
Paul smiled and leaned down to hug Cori before leading her back into the ballroom. “And that’s why we all love you. Now go take care of my boy, he looks lonely.”
Cori handed Paul his jacket before searching the room for Ryan. He was leaning against the bar, sipping a beer, and his face lit up when he saw her. She walked over to him and slipped her arms around his neck, kissing him softly.
“You’re freezing! Where have you been?” Ryan asked while rubbing her bare arms.
“Outside, I needed some fresh air.” She glanced behind her and grinned. “Come and dance with me, that’ll warm me up.” Ryan met her smile and wrapped an arm around her waist before leading her onto the dance floor.
Ryan pulled Cori into his arms as the first notes of ‘Wait for You’ spilled from the speakers. Cori’s eyes widened as the familiar notes reached her ears. “Did you plan this?”
Ryan shook his head. “Nope.”
Cori looked at him suspiciously for a moment before laying her head on his shoulder as they swayed to the music. Ryan’s raspy voice softly sang the lyrics and Cori felt her chest tighten knowing that he meant every word.
She didn’t know how she would handle being with someone who saw the sun rise and set in her eyes but she was willing to try. Ryan wasn’t Jesse and he was surrounded by a group of people who would rip him limb from limb if he ever hurt her. Letting out her breath in a rush she closed her eyes and let the world fall away as they danced.

The next day was difficult to say the least. Most of the instruments, equipment, and a million other items had to be stored while some items were shipped back to Ireland along with the performers and most of the crew. Cori was among those who were staying in the States. She was flying to New York to work on her showcase while nearly everyone else went back home for the break.
The mood was somber in the airport, everyone was exhausted and was reluctant to say goodbye. Cori took her time, hugging everyone and taking a moment to speak with them before moving on.
“I can’t thank you enough for this opportunity, Sharon,” she said after releasing the woman from a hug.
“You’re quite welcome, my dear. Please let us know if there is anything I can do for you and don’t be a stranger.”
Cori smiled and nodded. “Yes, ma’am. Don’t forget me. I heard you and Phil whispering about a new show. Let me know if you need some help.”
Cori winked and Sharon placed a finger to her lips.
Finally it was time to say goodbye to Ryan. He had been silent all morning, trying to keep his mind off of the fact that Cori was leaving. He felt her tap his shoulder and followed her as they walked a little ways off.
For a long time they just stood there, neither one willing to say goodbye. Finally Cori jumped up and threw her arms around his neck. He wrapped his arms around her waist and held her tight, feeling her body tremble. Her breath hitched and he felt the splash of warm tears on his skin. Resting his cheek against the top of her head he let his own tears fall, praying to whoever was listening that he would see her again.
Finally Cori let go and she wiped her cheeks with the sleeve of her sweatshirt. She placed one hand on Ryan’s shoulder and let the other rest over his heart, her breath catching when his hand came up and his fingers threaded with hers.
A sad smile spread over her lips as she stood on tiptoe and kissed him. She didn’t care who was watching and what they would say, for that moment she had Ryan and that is what she wanted to remember.
The kiss seemed to go on forever and when they finally parted they did not pull away, they stood together with their foreheads resting against each other until the chime on Cori’s phone exclaimed the inevitable.
“Wait for me?” she asked, looking deeply into the blue eyes now clouded with tears.
“Forever,” Ryan rasped, hoping he wouldn’t break down in front of her.
Slowly they parted and Cori picked up her forgotten bag. She quickly walked away, not daring to look back at the man that loved her.
Ryan stood watching her until she disappeared from sight. With a sigh he turned back to the group, sinking into a chair and wondering how he was going to function without her.
A strong hand on his shoulder made him look up and George sent him a sympathetic look. “It gets better, lad. I promise.”
Ryan nodded and closed his eyes. George had to leave not only his wife but his daughter as well every time they went on tour. If George could handle it so could he.
Ryan sat up a little straighter. He would get through this. And before he knew it Cori would be in his arms once more.
