"Not a problem, lass. I wasn't paying any attention myself.", he smiled.
"My name's Ali. Ali Dawson, that is.", I said, introuducing myself to the handsome Irish lad.
"I'm Damian McGinty, but I assume that you already know that, seeing how stunned you looked earlier. Thunderhead?"
"Yes. You guys are amazing. In fact I was listening to A Bird Without Wings just as I ran into you."
"Were you, really? What a coincidence that is. Who's your favorite lad?"
"Well, you actually. So, it's quite a pleasure to meet you."
"And it's a pleasure to meet such a pretty girl like you as well." I blushed.
"I hope you don't mind my asking, but what exactly are you doing here? Pennsylvania's a boring state. Specifically here in Bushkill.", I stated.
"Well, actually, the lads and I decided to take a vacation back to the states this summer and we're staying here in Bushkill."
"But Bushkill's so quiet and boring. Nothing ever happens here, well nothing has ever happened here, until now, that is."
"I think it's quite lovely here."
"You wouldn't think that after living here for almost your entire life. Maryland was much better."
"Maryland?"
"Yeah, my family used to live there before we move here. We were actually supposed to move to Virginia. To Virginia Beach, but nope, we're here in boring, land-locked Pennsylvania."
"It'd be cool to live at the beach, I suppose."
"Exactly! But, if I did live in Virginia, I wouldn't have met you today."
"True. You're a pretty fast runner, Ali.", he said changing the subject.
"Well, yeah. I guess. I do cross country. And well, my speed kinda depends on my mood, ambition, and... who I'm running with.", I replied as looked into his deep blue eyes.
"So where exactly were you planning on running to?", he asked.
"Not sure. You?"
"No where, really. I'm still unfamiliar with the area."
"Oh, well would you like to go to the creek. It's not to far from where we are now, and it's in the diorection we're going anyway. Nonetheless, we'd still pass it."
"Sure, I'd like that." After a few minutes of running and talking with Damian, we arrived at the creek.
"Okay, this is it- Saw Creek."
"It's nice and peaceful here."
"It is. Sometimes, I just run down here and think. Sometimes I do homework here. Sometimes I bring my dog here. He loves it down here as well."
"You have a dog?"
"Yes, he's a purebred beagle puppy. Only four months old. His name is Cow."
"Cow? That's a funny name for a dog. Especially a dog that small."
"My sister, Melissa came up with the name. I have three sisters. All are older than I. Gaby's the oldest, she is 6 years older, then Melissa, she's 5 years older, then Sara, she's a year and 11 months older, then there's me. I'm only seventeen."
"You're only seventeen? You look older. I was thinking at least nineteen. I'm eighteen, nineteen on September 9th. What about you?"
"Eighteen on December 13th. So you're exactly a year, three months, and four days older than I am."
"That would be correct." I looked at the creek and smiled to myself.
"What?", Damian wondered.
"Nothing really. It's just that six summers ago, when I was eleven, on Gaby's birthday, Sara, my best friend, Lizzie, and I went on a walk here."
"And what happened?"
"Well, you see the random piece of land in the middle of the creek?"
"Yes."
"Well, Lizzie, Sara, and I wanted to get to that for some reason. Lizzie tripped on a rock or something and fell in the water. She took Sara down with her. I, fortunately, was still dry. Then somehow, all three of us fell. As we tried to get up, our flip flops slid loose and began to float downstream. Sara had to swim far down the creek to retrieve them for us. We were all soaked as we walked back home. Once we got back, we all sprinted up the stair to the bathroom to dry up. The way we interpreted the story to our parents was that Lizzie tripped and accidentally pushed us and we all fell in. To this day, they have not heard the true story."
"And what if I were to meet your parents sometime and tell them that you, Sara, and Lizzie didn't actually 'fall' as you said you did?", Damian jokingly taunted.
"You wouldn't!"
"Yes, I would!"
"What is I decided to push you into this creek right now?"
"Now, let's be honest, we both know you'd never do that, Ali, now would you?"
"I don't know, I very well may do that and I very well may not. It all depends."
"Come on, Ali. You know you wouldn't."
"You're more so making me want to push you in, Damo."
"Fine, do it.", he replied, not expecting for me to actually push him into the creek.
"Wasn't expecting that, now were you Damo?"
"Nope, not at all! In fact, I wasn't expecting it as much as you aren't expecting this."
"Expecting what?" I asked. I was genuinely confused. Then I felt something pull me into the creek. Oh. This is what he was talking about.
"Okay, now I really did not see that coming!"
"Of course you weren't. But I did half expect you to push me in. Expect the unexpected."
"Wait. How exactly did you push me in?"
"With my ninja skills."
"Okay, Damo. You can call it that."
"NINJA ATTACK!" Before I could say what, Damian splashed me with water. I attempted to splash him, back, but he move out of sight before I could react. He swiftly swam behind me and splashed me again.
"See, I told you I was a ninja.", he smirked.
