Gods! 200 reads in four days?? I don't know if that's just another day at the office around here, but it sure makes me feel loved! I haven't got time to thank each one of you, but I am indeed grateful for everyone who reads, comments, and enjoys this story, and any others I end up posting in the future.
Thanks, all of you!

Oh, it's a miracle! An update!!
----------
Paul exhaled heavily as he set the sack of basil down on the shelf closest to the floor. The nineteen-year-old had been working in the shop for a good seven hours straight, moving containers of herbs and spices out of the storage room, and onto the shelves.
"Ya can go home now, if ya'd like," said Neil, whose father owned the shop. He leaned against the front counter. "I work here, too, ya know. I can take over, 'n work the evenin'."
"Nope," Paul refused. "I'm bein' paid for this, and I'm gonna do the work."
"Gods, your mam was right when she told me dad you were stubborn," Neil shook his head. "I suppose I'll head out, then."
Neil walked out from behind the counter, and made his way toward the door. "Don't let anyone rob us," He called as he left.
"I won't!" Paul replied after him.
As soon as the door had closed behind the other man, Paul plopped down on a nearby crate, and let out a weighted sigh.
He didn't particularly like working at Mister Byrne's Herb and Spice Shop. To be quite frank, the combined scents of the roots, flowers, and woodsmoke made his head spin, and the constant labour was not something that the young man was used to.
But, it made him money, and provided him with a lot more respect from the villagers, and those were two things that he needed (the latter more so than the former; the villagers had seen him as lazy and arrogant prior to him being employed at the Herb and Spice Shop).
Paul glanced around the room, tapping his foot idly.
"What am I supposed to do, now?" He thought. "I've already moved all of the inventory, and I doubt there'll be that many customers at this hour."
"I should'a just left when Neil offered," He muttered to himself.
As if on cue, the shop's front door opened slowly, and someone entered the building.
Paul immediately stood up, and put on his best people-pleasing face.
"'Ello, sir! How can I help--"
It was then that Paul realized how familiar this man looked. His mind churned, working rapidly in an attempt to recall just where he knew this person from.
Paul recognized everything; The messy soot-black hair, the pale skin, the daring but distrustful eyes-- Everything.
However, he could not, for the life of him, place a name.
"Hello, I'm, um. I'm lookin' for someone. I was wonderin' if ya knew where he was," The man said.
"Aye. Who?" Paul asked.
"A boy, maybe eight or nine years old. About this high," The man held a hand up to his waist. "Paul, his name was."
Then it hit him.
Paul knew exactly who this man was, and why he couldn't come up with a name. The man hadn't told him his name all those years ago.
Paul only knew him as The Thief.

Wow! The elusive Ryan the Thief has returned after an absence of 11 years! Which is not much to somebody like Ryan. And those of Ryan's ilk forget that us mere mortals do age! Boy is he in for a shock in the next update!

I'm so sorry for the lack of updates! I've been swimming in school work lately, and haven't been able to write much. I've got a bit of free time right now, so I'll try and get something done.
Thank you for your patience!

Lopp, there are alot of other writers here who are either still in Middle school,High School or going to college. So not having time to update due to School work is a common occurance around here! So don't worry about not updating fast enough! School work comes first then updates.

Oh, look! Angst, angst, and more angst!
I'm glad I could get another update up. Unfortunately, it might take even longer for the next update, because I had an idea for another fic... That happens to me a lot, I should warn you. I tend to jump from project to project.
Ha. Anyway, on with the update!
----------
"You," Paul said, almost accusingly.
The Thief raised an eyebrow.
"Yes...?"
"What's your name?" Paul asked.
Cautiously, The Thief answered, "Ryan. Why are ya a- Wait."
A flood of realization washed over Ryan's mind.
"You're him...? Paul?"
Paul nodded.
"But you-- You can't be! Paul's just a lad, and you're--"
"Grown-up?" Paul finished. "Yeah. We humans tend to do that."
"I knew that, I--" Ryan paused. "Just. How long's it been?"
"Years," Paul replied, his anger subtly seeping into his words. "Eleven years."
"Oh," Ryan breathed, a sudden coldness coming over him.
"Oh?" Paul repeated irately. "You promised you'd come back."
Ryan held up his hands defensively. "Hey, I did," He said.
"Yeah, and you sure took your time doin' so," Paul spat.
By now, Ryan was beginning to reciprocate the anger that Paul was displaying.
"Oi, be glad I came back at all," Ryan growled. "I could'a just forgotten about ya all together. I would 'ave too, if I knew how ya were gonna treat me when I got here."
"I sat at my bedside every night for four years before I finally decided you weren't coming back!" Paul shouted.
Ryan, voice small, asked, "Why did you bother? Why did you care so much?"
Paul hesitated to explain, not wanting to show any kind of weakness to the other man.
"You were the only thing I had that even resembled a friend," He muttered finally.
"But back then, ya mentioned you had friends," Ryan said.
"I lied," Paul admitted. "No one wanted to be friends with the stuck-up heir."
Ryan was fairly sure that the sound of his heart breaking could be heard from miles away. And considering how hard it was to phase the gypsy, that was saying something.
He placed a hand on Paul's shoulder as a comforting gesture. Paul flinched away from the touch.
"Can you," He paused. "Can you leave me alone for a while?"
Ryan furrowed his eyebrows in confusion.
"You just shouted at me about leavin' ya, and now ya want me to leave again?"
"No, no," Paul shook his head. "Just for a while. You can stay around the village, but... I need to think."
"So, I'll be back later, then," Ryan said, waiting for confirmation.
Paul nodded.
Ryan patted him on the back, and left the shop without another word.
